  1. FYI: I've had two back about 10 years ago with Dr Steven Gabel he's very good, unfortunately I have thin hair & might even need body or beard hair for top. Low Dose Minoxidill is in the news lately, am I correct that it doesn't work if you are bald on top?
  2. Hi My wife is from the Philippines & I was wondering if anyone has heard of a company called DHI? They seem to have offices all over Asia & beyond. Is this another Bosley? Are there any good foreign Hair Transplant Surgeons that hopefully charge a little less than in USA? I notice there are no recommended surgeons in the Philippines? Thanks Steve
  3. What do people think of the machines for doing FUE? Has anyone had this, if so what were the results? One thing I do know is that the cost goes up, however possibly bigger sessions? PS Great Article!!

  7. No offense intended but I was wondering if Hasson & Wong have raised their prices?
  8. Hi Guys, I have only had one HT, however I was completely bald in front & top probably a NW-6. After a year I do have a hairline which I didn't before. It's funny, under bright florescent lites it looks real thin, however in more muted lite I look great! Luckily, when I went to Bosley, the saleperson took pics of me! No, I didn't go there but these are good to remind me of where I came from. Yes I do want another, although I think I will quit after that maybe rogaine of my vertex? I can relate to this and I did like my Doc he noted that I do have fine hair.
  9. Has anyone heard of the Neograft or Neograft system? I saw an ad for it on a plane trip. Is it better than usual HT? Thanks
  10. I wondered if coloring my hair will help? Also, does the shampoo Progaine seem to at least give the appearance of thicker hair?
  11. I had a HT about 9 months ago (3,800 grafts), my frontal hairline was redone very nicely, however I have fine hair. I also am graying. Any suggestions about thicking up my hair? I will post pics
  12. I'm thinking of using Rogane to help with vertex baldness & stop hair loss. How long should I give it? Six months? Are there any side effects? FYI, Men's Journal had an article about Propecia & impotence! Also, if a person stops Rogane will hair be worse?
  13. I had about the same number of grafts with Dr Gabel last march. I didn't notice much at 3-4 months, mainly pimples!! Now at 7-8 months it has really come in! I was completely bald on top so it has really made a difference, so I would say just wait. Do you have any Pics?
  14. I would keep taking SP due to the fact that it's good for your prostate. FYI, Prostate Cancer is the second leading cancer in men. It will help Urination too. Hey, I've taken it for the last 5 years since I was Dx with this problem and my MD can't believe I'm doing so well and no operation no radiation no nothing!! So even if it doesn't help your hair, it's good for you
  15. Thanks Guys, Don't worry, I had my HT with Dr Gabel and he did a great job!! After 4 months I see a lot (I was totally bald on top) of growth.
  16. Hi I just saw a Hair Club Ad on TV, I thought they were out of business. Anyway, has anyone ever been to them and what was your result? Has anyone had the hair weave they do? I don't recognize the product they sell either? It stated they do state of the art transplants? Well, I went there years ago on a free offer, got a glitzy pics my balding hair slightly styled and told to come back for more that never happened? I got a bad feeling for the place, in fact worse than when I went to Bosley Comments?
  17. Hi, I'm three months out from a transplant from Dr Gabel. I need a haircut as my stubbel on top is getting long and so is the rest of my hair. Are there any precautions I need to take? thanks
  18. It has been 4 weeks since my procedure. I thought I would give you all an update. My scabs are gone, but lately, my scalp has been feeling dry and slightly itchy, however I'm resisting the urge to itch. I still have about one half to one third of the hair and it's still standing up straight. I noticed a slight pimple today, so I’m looking forward to seeing new growth! No bleeding what so ever!
  19. I had my surgery with Dr. Gabel last week. I had 3,826 grafts transplanted and I’m very pleased with my experience so far. I came in the morning of my procedure and Dr. Gabel spent time with me drawing out my hairline and reviewing the plan for my surgery. I appreciated that Dr. Gabel really listened to what I wanted. There was some pain from the numbing injections but other than that the day was virtually pain free. I couldn’t tell for sure when Dr. Gabel began taking my strip and I was surprised when he told me that the strip had been removed and my donor area sown shut. It was a long day but the staff and Dr. Gabel were all very nice and personable. Dr. Gabel was there placing my grafts and overseeing everything throughout the whole day. I did not realize before my surgery, but not all doctors place grafts. It was reassuring that the doctor was present and involved in the whole procedure. I had several breaks to get up and stretch and had a lunch break around noon. I watched a movie and listened to music in the afternoon. Overall it was a pleasant day and everything seemed to flow very well. The night of my surgery the donor area hurt as I was told it would. A tip I can share is don’t try to tough it out. Take the pain medication as soon as you start to feel pain or before, because it takes awhile to kick in. The pain was not horrible but it certainly is uncomfortable and it has been hard to sleep the last few days but it gets better day-by-day. I went back to Dr. Gabel’s office the next morning and had my hair washed. They said everything looked good. I have my appointment to have my stitches taken out next week. Below is a photograph of all the grafts in place after my surgery.
  20. I'm probably a Norwood 6 and have been balding for quite some time. I wil be getting a transplant next friday 3/4/2011 with Dr Steven Gabel in Portland. My goal is to rebuild my front hairline and then move back. I'm excited as I have thought about this for years. I will say there is no pressure from his office and I like that. Now on to the results show!! PS any other thoughts on what to do to prepare for HT? Has anyone done this without meds?
  21. I was wondering any idea of the percentage of transplants that result in minituratization? Or for that matter hair that doesn't grow. I saw a Bosley salesperson once & their big claim to fame is supposidely they guarantee the hair will grow (of course I was told no one ever had to use this!) Is this really anything to be concerned about? Am I correct that shock loss should only be hair that would fall out anyway due to suseptability to DHT? Thanks
  22. I emailed a hair transplant surgeon, who was advertizing doing a strip for $5,000 or $5,500. This surgeon says strips are about 1,800-2,000 grafts. Anyway, I asked this surgeon why I couldn't find on this forum. The surgeon told me it costs up to $30,000 to be recomended on this forum? I must admit this surgeon seems questionable. But do surgeons really pay that much to be on this forum?
  23. Is a virtual (by emailing photos) consultation really a viable option? I mean can a surgeon really tell by photos if one is a good candidate? Also, if one goes this route & books surgery do surgeons let people pass if it doesn't look good? Thanks
  24. Hi I'm 62 and I would like to get my first transplant. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer over 4 years ago and have sucessfully beat it using diet, Chinese Herbs & supplements. I never had the surgery (which can make you impitant or have urination problems), radiation or brachtheraphy. My PSA is very good & my urologist can't believe it. However, i really would like to look better & reward myself for this. I went to a Dr recomended on the forum, about rebuilding my frontal hairline. He said I was a good candidate and that I could go without Propecia. I really don't want to take Propecia, who knows it could trigger the cancer to come back? Yes, I have DHT checked on labs. So my question is can I have a sucessful transplant without Propecia? I think my loss is lessening and I am 62 (norwood #6). Or should I forget it? Are there guys on this forum not using med's after surgery? If so what are the results? My father's hair loss seemed to stabilize about this age and my pattern looks a lot like him. Thanks
