  1. Hi everyone, I’m a 30 year old man and have recently noticed my hair thinned. It’s early and not noticeable yet to others, but I’m paranoid that the back and sides have become thinner too, as they feel less dense. I find that about 15 or so percent of my daily hair fall are much thinner, sometimes shorter hairs, and this has me worried about DUPA hair loss. I bought a hand microscope to look at the hair at the back of my head, and I was wondering if more qualified eyes could offer input on if I have to worry about DUPA or not. All of these photos are different areas from the back of my head (above the nape, below the crown). Thank you! note: some of these photos have trace amount of Toppik in them that made its way down to the back of my head.
  2. Thanks for the reply! I only ask because in the last year my hair has thinned. It’s not bad (yet) and my hairline hasn’t receded or followed a typical pattern (I’m a 30 year old man). I had bad eating habits, more or less eating a meal a day for a year. Anyways, I’m just worried I have DUPA, since my entire scalp just seems less thick than it used to. My dermatologist didn’t tell me much, and I had a consultation at a hair clinic where they used a magnified camera to look at various parts of my head. They said they didn’t see signs of miniaturization in the back of my head, but I find that 15% of my hair strands are much thinner. Not shorter, still several inches long just very, very thin. It stresses me out. Should I be concerned about this? I’ve heard dupa is extremely rare, and in men, typically starts in the teen years or early twenties. My hair loss seems very recent but without large amounts or shedding. 100-150ish hairs a day.
  3. Hi everyone, Just a quick question about the shedding phase of finasteride. I started taking it almost two months ago, so far no issues. I’ve spent a lot of time on Reddit hair loss forums, and it seems like everyday someone is posting a horror story about a dread shed. I’ve talked to my dermatologist, read numerous hair surgeon or doctor blogs, etc, and all of them say a shed is possible, but likely not very noticeable if noticeable at all, and their patients don’t really have them/complain about them. But I compare that to the posts I see on Reddit, and all I read is “ everyone sheds, it gets way worse before it gets better, trust the process.” Anyways, i was wondering if anyone here had a shed or lack of a shed, and if so, how bad was it? thanks for the input!
  4. What role does nutrition play in hair growth/ hair loss? If a person doesn’t eat enough daily over a long period of time, could this cause their hair to thin or cause the diameter of their hairs to shrink? I’ve spent the last year more or less eating one meal a day, and probably not eating enough. Could this cause thinner hairs to grow, or does only miniaturization caused by genetics do this? thanks for the input!
  5. A general hair question related question. Does finding variety in hair strand diameter always mean miniaturization? Most of my strand are very fine, and always have been, but a few are much thicker and darker. However, what concerns me is finding full length hairs (usually over 3cm) that are extremely thin, like almost invisible. Are these normal to some extent on all scalps? I find maybe 15-20% of my daily hair fall are these wispy strands. It’s rare I find over 20 of them. I also find them from all across my head, not just the typical balding areas. Thanks for the input!
  6. But is finding what looks like miniaturized hair from the sides and back normal? Or is that abnormal and indicative of widespread miniaturization?
  7. Logic and the part of my brain that doesn’t have anxiety agrees with you. But anxiety isn’t logical so I’ve been worrying a lot about this. Nonetheless, I appreciate your input, thank you!
  8. I go back and forth on if this looks normal or not. For context, always have had finer hair. But I’m not sure if I should see this much scalp when I move it around? This and the finer hairs have me paranoid.
  9. Hi everyone, I have some questions about dupa that I can’t seem to find across the internet. a few months ago, I noticed my hair beginning to thin around my hairline but no recession. The more I started to pay attention, it seems like maybe my entire head has lost some density. It isn’t really noticeable to others yet, but the idea of dupa has me paranoid. I’ve noticed that when i comb the sides/back of my head, I’ll find these tiny, super thin, barely visible hairs. I’d say they account for about 15-20% of the hairs I lose daily. I’ve heard miniaturized hairs aren’t over 3 cm, but there are typically full length hairs, just incredibly thin. I guess what I’m asking, is is this indicative of dupa? Or do most people lose a percent of skinny hairs? Should my hair be a uniform thickness or is variation normal? also, I’ve heard dupa typically presents in your teens or early twenties and by 25 or so, it’s pretty clear if you’ve got it . I’m 30 now and have had no prior hair loss issues until this year. I google dupa and my head certainly doesn’t look like what I see, but I worry if that’s where I’m headed due to the hairs I’m finding. any input would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post. Thanks!
