  1. Very well done Eric,

I was eagerly awaiting to see your results and I'm happy to see that mine and yours are very close now.

Granted, I'm around NW 1.5, I've stopped it on time, I can't guarantee regrowth to anyone, but completely stopping hair loss I think that's more than a guarantee at this point, and my hairs did thicken a bit compared to 3 years ago, the only exception would be if someone was so susceptible to DHT that hair loss occurs at even normal levels, but that's what they mean when they say genetic hair loss, they mean those types of cases.

The next step is to figure out how to make hair follicles grow again, I'll be trying dermaneedles of 2mm-2.5mm once a week, I've been doing about 1.5-2mm for a long time now once a week, and i'll be adding rosemary oil and mint right after the puncturing (and continuing with everyday applicatons of oils), to see if it makes any difference once it breaches the bloodstream.

I hope this thread was helpful to anyone reading, regrowing your hairs is hard but stopping hair loss is DEFINITELY possible without taking fin/dut.

I have stopped taking saw palmetto as I had side effects. Most notably, significant constipation. I am currently taking a tablespoon of stinging natural syrup and a tablespoon of pumpkin seed oil per day for the past several months. I have noticed that my libido has edged off somewhat but not to the level of reducing my performance, so to speak. In fact, I believe this is a good thing as I did have an over exuberance in that regard which had somewhat impacted on my social interaction with the opposite sex. I have taken a DHT blood test recently to ascertain if my levels are similar to Nico's result. I will post the results as soon as I get them.

I'm eager to hear your results, sad to hear saw palmetto wasn't good for you, I luckily didn't have any sides, but you can do without, stinging nettle root is powerful enough. I don't know your diet maybe you're missing fiber, if you ever re-start saw palmetto, don't take it on an empty stomach, and i take it with a lot of water so i can mix it, i can't swallow capsules so I open them.  I'm still okay hair wise, 0 recession for 3 years now almost, the only problem i have is seborrheic dermatitis, unless I eat clean, it tends to be very troublesome.

Regarding sexual performance, when my DHT was highest, my semen volume was extremely high when doing you know what, and it was very dense, ever since I normalized DHT semen is a lot more watery, which is how it should be, so at this point I know what to look out for if DHT spikes, but it hasn't spiked so far, it has no reason to anymore.

The only bad thing is that although some of my density has returned over these 3 years, it's still nowhere near my original hair density, when I grow out my hair for 2-3 months it's unnoticable, but when it's short, it's still diffuse, so I guess it's going to stay in that state unless I do something more drastic.

I've been wanting to do a nofap 90 day reset to see if this will affect density, but that's going to take a while.

In your opinion, would reducing overall testosterone levels lead to improvements in male pattern baldness?

I've found an interesting article which highlights herbal supplements that can do this:

    https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-that-lower-testosterone#TOC_TITLE_HDR_4

    I welcome your thoughts.

I'd recommend not to mess with testosterone levels at all, I've read hair loss can also occur from even low levels of test, it's extremely important to have optimal levels to be healthy since it is responsible for many bodily functions and not just our physical, but our mental wellbeing.

By all accounts it's said DHT should be about 10% of total test levels, but this is never the case in male pattern baldness patients, in fact it's a lot more drastic and there's never any explanation as to why.

Stress, lack of sleep and insulin resistance are the main culprits of excessive amounts of DHT, especially the insulin one, this is something I can confirm myself.

I would imagine as a general rule of time, when dealing with natural remedies, the results may not be as great, and may take longer to achieve but nonetheless on the whole, the side effects may be significantly less than the medical interventions. I booked in for Eugenix in India in July and looking forward to the journey. What was once a dream for almost 20 years is now becoming reality.

It takes a lot longer than medication and almost noone is that consistent.

I still think stress is the main factor that makes hairs more susceptible to DHT, it speeds up the process tenfold, it's always some stressful event or trauma that kickstarts the whole process.

Best of luck with the transplant! What opted you to go for India instead of let's say Spain where I've seen a lot of people post that the best surgeons are located?

I wanted to opt for doctor De Freitas in Spain when I have the money, but I'm always a little unsure as I'm a diffuse thinner and I don't know if they can do a good job as well without damaging the existing follicles. I don't need a lot of work, just a bit of a touchup but still.

Thanks very much for that information, yes I was told that Soya is a bit dodgy in large amounts. I've discovered this information below which appears to be quite interesting in terms of natural DHT blockers as well as other remedies:

    https://greenmedinfo.com/blog/getting-root-hair-loss

It also suggests that topical rosemary oil may be an alternative to minoxidil.

I've finished reading the article you've sent. Fantastic read that does make a lot of sense, there were some things I knew on there and some things I did not. And I'll definitely investigate the copper-zinc connection more.

Regarding topical rosemary I did use it for a long time, most likely a year, rosemary shampoo + applying rosemary essential oil every day.

I can say with certainty that at that time hair loss reduced dramatically, from 10-12 hairs when i go through my head with my fingers, to around 3-4. Whenever I'd sit in front of the computer there'd be like 20 hairs on the table alone just at that time (before trying rosemary). I might try rosemary oil again, I recently combined it when i was spraying my hair with stinging nettle tea. But again, I'm unsure if rosemary oil gave me any new growth, some spots on my head did fill out, but I can't say for sure if it was rosemary or the natural dht blockers i was taking.

Regarding the usage of Saw Palmetto, real sorry to hear that. I'm a guy who generally doesn't have any constipation problems ever, I go to the bathroom regularly a couple of times per day, and I'm unsure what your diet consists of.

Ever since this thing started I moved on to intermittent fasting, a bit of a ketogenic side of the diet, started avoiding carbs and sugars, though it's been on and off , sometimes I break it for a longer time then I get back on track etc. because it's not easy, I've also added the usage of apple cider vinegar twice a day as it has many health benefits.

Thanks very much indeed for that in-depth response. There is a lot of food for thought there.

In terms of soya, I've heard that this can also lead to a potential reduction in male pattern baldness. I welcome your thoughts on this.

The Japanese are a prime example of high usage of soy products in their diet. Most Asians have perfect hair and it is indeed down to their plant/fish based diet, however it is specific to their region, as the food they eat have a lot of phytoestrogens, they as a people are generally lower in testosterone but the difference is that they are accustomed to it. It has been like that for who knows how long, and a massive difference is that they go through this diet from birth, all the way through puberty. My hair quality changed at least 5 times during puberty from year on year because of what we eat, excessive refined carbs and sugars, dairy, meat etc.

But to return to the topic at hand, 90% of soy produced are also GMO which can be an instigator of a wide array of problems in the human body if used for prolonged periods, and using it too much at this point is not beneficial for health in any way, as men need healthy testosterone levels to function normally otherwise there are physical and mental side effects if we lack our androgen hormones.

I wouldn't touch soy with a 10ft pole, it's alright to use as an occasional condiment in meals but this is not a healthy way to balance hormones as it pumps a type of estrogen into you, which we men do not want.

If you want you can of course try using it for a time but this would require you to keep checking both your estrogen and androgen levels in your body on a monthly level to determine what sort of changes occurred and you would have to use only soy so as not to mistake its effects for any other product you might be using at the time, which in my opinion gets a little too complicated and costly.

A DHT blood test is around 20 euros where I'm at, doing all of the hormones every month would cost dozens more which is just not cost effective for anybody.

Thanks again for sharing your research.

    One question:

Would other herbal interventions, taken with Saw Palmetto, increase the effectiveness of stopping male pattern baldness? For example, Saw Palmetto with:

    ➤Stinging nettle (you outlined this)

    ➤Pumpkin Seed Oil

    ➤MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

    ➤Zinc

    ➤D3

    ➤B Complex

There are natural supplements that combine all, or some of the above e.g.

➣Life Extension Prostate (North American based)

➣Wellman prostate (UK and Ireland based)

No problem at all, to answer your question, stinging nettle and saw palmetto i sometimes even tend to take them together at around the same time of day and it's worked out great.

I did a bit of testing by eating pumpkin seeds and drinking pumpkin seed oil for a time a few years ago, but unfortunately I didn't notice a huge reduction in DHT at the time, it would probably need a higher amount of it to be effective which isn't such a great idea to load up on.

MSM - Surprisingly I haven't heard of this before, I'm always open to new ideas so I'll research it when I have the time.

Zinc - I've read a bit about it from time to time and it has the potential to increase testosterone which might not be the best idea at the time , however it is an important nutrient for the hair follicles themselves. I've also read that Zinc has little to no effect if you take it as a supplement while you lack magnesium in your body, the process of absorbing it doesn't occur properly, hence taking it whilst magnesium defficient can have a significantly reduced effect. This is one thing to keep in mind before supplementing with Zinc.

Magnesium and Vit C are one of the two important nutrients that get depleted the most through physical labour, that people these days just seem to lack.

I had a lot of kanker sores in my mouth on and off throughout the years and it's only recently that I figured out it was due to my immune system having issues fighting everything off. Once I supplemented with Vit C and Magnesium, they completely went away and I haven't had anything since.

I'm mentioning all this because I have a Candida overgrowth that occurred because of a weak immune system and overuse of antibiotics, which resulted in this hormonal disbalance in the first place.

D3- I take it on occasion when I remember, a liquid form but in all honesty I can't say for sure if it helps specifically with this type of hair loss, it probably does if someone is so sun defficient that their hair starts falling out for that reason, I'd still say staying in the sun is better for health in general not just this, but i'm stating the obvious here.

B Complex - Took two B complexes that had enough supply for 30 days each, one pill a day, no noticable difference I'm afraid. This was recommended by some female friends , saying it did help them with their hair/nails, but as a guy it just doesn't seem to have that effect on me.

Regarding Life Extension Prostate/Wellman prostate I don't think these supplements are available in my country, I'd still opt for solutions as natural as possible, supplements don't always successfully deliver all nutrients to your body, and the dosages aren't as strong when crammed together with multiple other ingredients present in the concoction.

I've also read supplements cause acidity to our body, I tried a lot of things during the corona craze and well, let's just say it's a waste of money.

To wrap things up, my main indicator of DHT going down was back acne disappearing after years of suffering with this problem, and whenever DHT went up again those acne would come back, this was during the time when I tested going off of saw palmeto/stinging nettle, my facial acne subsided as well during its usage though that wasn't too critical.

Hope that answers everything, I'll be around, have a good one!

I'm drinking the stinging nettle tea at work but will purchase for home use also. I'm taking 350mg Saw Palmetto daily.

    Should be increasing this?

The one I use is 550mg per capsule, when you finish that bottle don't be afraid to up the dosage for higher effect, I've had 0 sides.

Some people online complained about sides from Saw Palmetto but I'm pretty sure when you start with low dosages and up it gradually that the chance for sides is extremely smaller than just shocking your body with a bigger dose, this applies to any supplement/medication. I started with half a capsule then one then two, but now I just use one on occasion as mentioned before but yeah, get one with a higher dosage later on if you can, it can't hurt.

  9. Just be consistent with Saw Palmetto and Stinging Nettle root, test it out yourselves. Do blood tests before starting and then every month for 3-4 months in a row whilst using it, I guarantee everyone can see a difference, DHT levels will normalize.

That's not to say that this is a magical fix and you can do whatever else you want, every one of us has bad habits that cause us harm whether it's drinking, overeating or similar, all this contributes to disbalancing our organisms which in turn lead us to where we're at now, abstinence from overindulgence is the key to maintaining health in general.

    Best of luck!

You cannot get true value of your dht just by one blood test because you have to make multiple blood test a day (5-6) to get mean. DHT / T varie a lot along a day so you cannot have exact value... So your value are biased.

Saw palmetto do not decrease DHT in blood, only on prostate, so it is not effective to reduce hair loss.

I did conduct multiple tests, results are consistently at below 400 pg/ml right now and they're not moving above that. Fair assumption but I haven't lost any hair in the meantime, thickness came back bit by bit, so I'd say I'm on the right track. I think you should read the results on the first page, Saw Palmetto did reduce my dht by around 40% , and it's been around 2 years since then, if nothing worked I'd be bald by now.

You don't have any side affects from long term use? How long are you taking it?

If I remember correctly, I started taking it at the start of 2021 and I took it for an entire year. I started with low doses, half a capsule a day the first week, then one capsule in the second week and when I noticed that nothing bad was happening, I upped it to two capsules per day, one in the morning and late in the afternoon, I wanted to make sure that I don't shock my organism since I was still afraid of messing with my hormones.

Everything was completely fine, zero side effects from Saw Palmetto, I saw about a 38% decrease in DHT when I used it alone, then I added stinging nettle root and the total reduction was over 70% , normalizing my DHT, I showed all the pictures at the start of the thread.

Over time I didn't see a need to use it 2 times per day so I reduced it to once per day, DHT levels still remained normal, these days I only use it on days when I train as a precaution, so about 3 times a week.

In conclusion Saw palmetto alone has about half the strength of Finasteride, SP by itself is not enough to stop hair loss, but it's a great preventative measure that won't tax your liver and kidneys like meds do, and if nothing else it can slow down the process by a lot, but it needs to be used in combination with other antiandrogens to achieve the best results.

I've been reflecting on your scientific results and it seems to be an excellent tentative piece of research. It seems there's not a lot of research or data about Saw Palmetto as an alternative to finasteride in hair preservation.

They overcomplicate things unnecessarily, it can be very simple: Do a blood test > try a product and use it for 3-4 weeks > re-do blood test.

Both stinging nettle root and saw palmetto work fast, within a week my back acne subsided, that's one of the main symptoms of high DHT.

However there is a difference, Finasteride blocks the production of DHT, saw palmetto/stinging nettle reduce DHT and filter it out of the body. If your hair follicles are sensitive to even normal levels of DHT, nothing but medication will work, or maybe a combination of meds and herbs. This is the part where your genetics are important, since follicles are sensitive only at certain thresholds to DHT in my opinion, and these vary from person to person, hence why some people only stop hair loss with Dutasteride, but those are extreme cases.

Inflammation i.e. seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff is also a big factor contributing to hair loss.

Could you mention how did  you prepare your spray of rosmery and Nettle root?

I just made stinging nettle root tea. 2-3 spoons of tea into cold water then let it come to a boil, it starts rising almost like when you're making cooking dough. Let it cool off and sit for about 30 minutes, then filter it and i just poured a part of the tea into a spray bottle, as for the rosemary part i bought an essential oil and I poured it into the spray, mixing it with the tea, about 10 drops in a 30 ml bottle, essential oils can be strong so they don't require a lot.

I use it 2-3 times per day I just spray my hair with it, and that should be it.

    Happy holidays ^^

Very impressive results and experimental data.

According to WebMD "Saw palmetto is likely safe when used for up to 3 years" [See link below].

This leads to the question of whether or not saw Palmetto is safe to take long term (over three years)?

    https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-971/saw-palmetto

I could argue the same about Finasteride. I think anything that's used long term tends to have either weaker effects over time or can even cause issues down the line, that's why everyone reacts differently, some have side effects, some do not, all depends on the body. 1mg Fin isn't available in my country, so I stuck to the natural route. Whenever I did a blood exam while using Saw Palmetto, I would always stop using it at least 12 hours before doing the blood test, as some people argued online that it has a very short half-life compared to Fin. My results show that this might not be true and that it has a longer half-life than people expected, I'm unsure if it is as long as Fin, but it's longer than 12h, otherwise the DHT levels would never go down in my tests.

Thank you for the detailed information, I'm going to look into this for myself. You mentioned you don't know how long it's going to take to treat the candida, but isn't this something you may have to treat for the rest of your life even after you've stabilized down to desired levels?

No problem at all. To answer your question, honestly I don't know. There is a cutoff point where you can cure it by reducing the absurd number of it in your body if you're disciplined, but it can always come back, whenever your immune system is compromised, whenever you use antibiotics, eat the wrong food, drink a lot of alcohol... I don't know why some people have it and why some don't, I think it's  tied to the immune system, and mine was bad to begin with, up until age 15-16 I used to be sick every other week, I drank dozens of antibiotics every year for over a decade, I got off easy when you think about it. Whether I like it or not, curing it is a priority since it causes millions of problems short and long term. If you find out anything useful keep in touch as I'd also like to know.

I'm experiencing a few of the symptoms for Candida overgrowth. How did you confirm you had an overgrowth (blood testing?) and how are you treating it?

I went to an otorhinolaryngologist, she just looked at my tongue and that was good enough for her to determine that it's candidiasis. In most situations candida overgrowth starts in the gut, then your tongue becomes white too, this is one of the main indicators. In extreme cases it's present in the bloodstream but that's very rare.

The doctor first gave me Nystatine pills but they're only for your mouth not your gut, I was then given an antifungal gel, along with an oral and gut probiotic.

I'm still treating it and I'm also using oregano oil, wild thyme oil, grapefruit seed oil, I've removed all dairy from my diet as i used to eat a lot of it and it's  responsible for candida overgrowth, as are most carbs/sugars and overuse of antibiotics, which caused my problem in the first place.

I've also been drinking a tea that my country's healthcare supplies it's specifically against candidiasis, and aloe vera juice is also a must, from what I've read it's not enough to kill off candida, you need to flush out the dead colonies from ur body too as they also emit toxins that cause problems.

It's a very long process and I don't know how long it's going to take, but as I've mentioned before physically and mentally I feel extremely good ever since I've started treating it, and everything normalized for the most part, but again this is hard to treat especially since I've left it untreated for 10 years... but there's progress, consistency is key as well as discipline.

It is very  impressive to reach such result with using only natural herbs  without going to chemical medicine. l have already started this week to apply a topical solution twice per day  which is a mix of 2% saw palmetto ;2% ginseng and 3% horse tail. Now I will add to my diet plan a drink of nettle root tea such as you. as you mentioned I did not want to take saw palmetto orally  and applied it l topicaly to reduce its concentration in the blood serum as I think 40%  of topical will go systemic not like the oral Form where 100% go systemic.

This DHT problem is tied to an endocrine system issue, I don't have test subjects or examples. For me it was a candida overgrowth that was messing with my hormones, but I only found that out recently, for someone else it might be something completely different, but it ain't a natural occurrence and stress is a trigger for sure. Don't be afraid of Saw Palmetto either, try half a capsule per day I was extremely hesitant as well because I was scared of side effects, in the end zero side effects lol. Took me a full year 2020-2021 to muster up the courage XD. I had major inflammation on my scalp u can even see dandruff on the first pic, before I started drinking anything I used castor oil on my head and kept it for 4-8 hours at a time while working from home. I can 100% confirm it stops inflammation related hair loss which I've had a lot of, hence why I didn't lose any ground even though it took me a full year until i started dealing with my hormones.

It is valuable information to hear  that your experiment showing saw palmetto reduce dht without reducing Testosteron and causing sexual side effects like finastride. My Testosteron is low by nature so I may think to apply  topical saw palmetto instead of  taking a risk of any finastride Form.  But do you think Nettle root drink played role along with saw palmetto

I did a blood test first whilst taking saw palmetto 2 times a day, it reduced DHT by about 38% if I remember right, that was back at the beginning of last year. When I added stinging nettle root tea once per day, total DHT levels were crushed by about 70%, in tandem they function phenomenally. However, I didn't want to risk long term usage of saw palmetto causing any kidney/liver problems, though I'm sure they wouldn't either way since it's a plant, I just started drinking stinging nettle root and that maintained my DHT levels within normal ranges, I didn't have to use Saw Palmetto. These days I use Saw Palmetto on days when I train at the gym which is about 2-3 times per week, just as an extra precaution. Lately I combined nettle root tea and rosemary oil into a spray bottle and I spray my hair with it, they're strong anti-androgens, if they work on the inside, it might help on the outside as well.

Final note, here's two pictures I know the lighting isn't the same but these two pictures are now almost 3 years apart, first one taken at the beginning of 2020 vs now. Not saying It's perfect in any way but the difference is obvious and I haven't had any recession ever since I started working on it.

From your experience with taking saw palmetto and Nettle root.  Do you think saw palmetto raises or reduces total / free testosteron

In terms of regular testosterone levels, I believe it does not affect it, in terms of free test, maybe a slight increase? Since you can see in the screenshot from the original post free test goes a bit above the upper limit. In general this hasn't caused any problems, the biggest changes were when my DHT was off the charts, I couldn't sleep well, I was restless, aggressive all the time, did not feel like myself, this went on for years, I knew something was up...

I stopped taking it months ago there's no need anymore. I'm only treating candida right now and I'm at about 50% of the way, my Dihydrotestosterone is absolutely low now, it normalized on it's own as candida overgrowth messed with my hormones for years. I'll do a blood test within the next few weeks if I have the time then I'll post the results.

  21. Update: I believe to have found the source of my hormonal problem now over a year later after opening this thread.

I've had a Candida overgrowth for most likely a decade and it went untreated. As soon as I started treating the candida, my hormones normalized even more, back acne are all but gone and I feel physically a lot better.

I've also cut dairy and gluten due to intolerances.

I cannot confirm this is the source of the problem for absolutely everyone, but I'd recommend people suffering from hair loss to check themselves for this. The main indicator is a white coating on the tongue, I've had this for years and never gave it a second thought until recently when someone brought it up.

Interesting @Niko- How many mg of stinging nettle root was in your tea?

Also, from where did you get your tests done and what was the cost? Is it something you can mail away for and do in your home?

Haven't checked the thread in a long time. I took Saw Palmetto capsules 550mg, twice a day, I can't swallow capsules so I opened them up and diluted them in water, I got confirmation from the company behind the product that it was safe to do so. As for the testing, it's a renowned lab in my country, it's done with a simple blood test, results take up to a week to be done.

  23. I've been using it for 2 months, I apply and massage the oil to my head and leave it on over night. Before rosemary, when i brush through my hair with my hands, 4-5 hairs fall out, after rosemary it's 0-2. I've been doing the test for a long while. Skeptical still but I'm going to give it a full 6 months to see if there's any potential growth. Also, one time after washing my hair I then went for 3 days without touching anything, just to see if it would go back to the old 4-5-6 hairs falling off, it was still 0-2, it might really be effective, it's just too early to tell, but if it really does stop DHT from binding to the hair follicles, that would be amazing.

  24. I thought I would post an update, finally got around to doing another test, this time Test/Free test/DHT, here are my results attached.

Compared to a result that I did not post here which was done during the summer, my testosterone was about 20 pg/ml, now it's at around 27, and compared to the result from 2020, my free testosterone is a bit higher. Still no side effects from using both, zero problems.  On an additional note, since reducing DHT my sweat doesn't smell that strongly, it's very faint, and I have no more acne/inflammation on my back, it used to be full of zits.

Hope this helps someone, Saw Palmetto/Stinging Nettle Root are pretty cheap methods for controlling your hormones, and the results have been consistent.

  25. I wanted to share my short story here. About 2 years ago at age 22 my first signs of hair loss had shown, I experienced hair thinning on my entire head and some loss, though minimal, mostly major miniaturization, but it was noticeable.

After much research and thought I decided to risk it and give Saw Palmetto 550 mg a chance before trying anything more serious (like fin/min), to see how I would react. I've also linked some cropped pictures of laboratory test results below that were taken.

The picture with the highest DHT of almost 3300 PG/ML was in September of 2020, up to this point I was only experimenting with natural topical solutions, and although for example the Jamaican castor oil I was using helped to prevent further loss, it didn't help with the hair density so I wanted to try something else.

The second picture of 1890 PG/ML was after 2 months of Saw Palmetto 550mg x2 a day, started using it in Jan/Feb of this year and did the lab result in March, and the third lab test is from the month of May, after introducing Stinging Nettle Root tea once a day in tandem with Saw Palmetto, from March to May, it completely stabilized and was within normal range. Just for experimental purposes I stopped using both SP/SNR for about a month and a half and wouldn't you know it, DHT levels started rising again, who'd have thought? :)

I quickly got back on the regime again and it stabilized.

Regarding Saw Palmetto I only had "side effects" for the first few days where erections were very weak, after that everything went back to normal and I haven't experienced any side effects, neither from SP nor Stinging Nettle Root.

People did comment that they see a big difference from a couple of months and now regarding my hair, though I'm not satisfied yet. Though I can definitely see a lot less hairs fall out now when I stroke through my hair, It used to be 10-15, now it's 2-5 hairs, so I legit think it's worth a try before going on any meds, but I think it will take a long time to see improvement, still, I halted all further hair loss.
