  1. Thanks for the reply. I’m well aware regrowing hair from finasteride is not the norm and I was hopeful it would more than anything. But for my hair to feel the worse it’s ever done 11 months in to taking finasteride in some capacity is quite demoralising. I have been doing research on hair transplants and have narrowed it down and waiting for responses from surgeons. The reason for not getting a transplant just yet is I needed to see whether or not I was able to tolerate finasteride.
  2. Hi all. Going to try and keep it short. Been on finasteride for 11 months now. Started initially at 0.25mg twice a week for a month then went on to 0.25mg 4 times a week and carried on for roughly another month. Then went on to 0.5mg 4 times a week for around another month, then went on to 0.5mg a day for for about 4 months and then stepped up to 1mg day for around 6 weeks now. I can honestly say it has made zero difference to my hair, I am so far under baseline. My crown has opened up, my temples feel like they’re thinner and my hair in general all over is weaker and thinner. My temple point seem to have receded a little too. Saying all this I do feel small spiky hairs all over my head. Could it be I could be a slower responder as I’ve only been taking 1mg a day for 6 weeks? Struggling to have any kind of optimism, took so much courage to take finasteride and it’s done absolutely nothing. Thanks in advanced
  3. Yep I saw a hair transplant doctor just before I started finasteride, he recommended I jump on fin which I’ve done. I saw a dermatologist a while back and they confirmed there was nothing wrong with my scalp and it’s simply MPB. Taking a pill isn’t too much or else I would have stopped by now. When you pucker the courage to take fin and not only not see stabilisation but hair loss getting worse so quickly I feel I’m well within my rights to feel disheartened by it.
  4. Thanks all for the replies. I’m well aware that finasteride is mainly to stop hair loss but that hasn’t been the case for me at all. Regrowth was nothing more than a dream. My hair has continued to thin and recede at an alarming rate. I have pictures over the last year and my hair looks worse and worse each month. My temples are deeper, my hair overall is so much thinner. I’m certain my sides are thinning too now. I want to believe that it will get better but going backwards at 6 months has me pretty much close to giving up. It seems my body hair grows a lot slower and my beard is either growing slower or thinning out. So finasteride is definitely doing something to my body but nothing for the hair on my head. Not sure what to do, whether or not I should carry on.
  5. Started finasteride around 6 months ago now, started at 0.25mg twice a week and built up to 1mg 3 times a week. Thought it gave me sides so chopped and changed dosage, frequency etc. Now I’ve settled on 0.5mg a day as I felt no different on the different dosages or frequency, which let me to believe the sides were in my head. In that time it has made no difference to my hair, I’ve lost a lot of ground. Probably shed similar or slightly less than when I was off finasteride. Feel like I’ve lost more hair on it than off it. Took so much courage to take it and it’s done nothing for me. I don’t know if it’s because I kept changing dosage and frequency which meant the hair kept shedding. At this point I’ve no idea what to do. Any responses are welcome Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advanced
  6. @Curious25 thanks for the response. I was thinking about maybe trying a smaller dosage. My pattern currently is NW3V with a diffuse component so not sure it’d be worth doing a smaller dosage. Have thought maybe topical but read that goes systemic too but have seen people who had sides on oral have success with topical. Not sure really
  7. Hi all. Been on finasteride a little over three months now. Felt fine up until 2 weeks ago. Started on a low dose and worked up to 3mg a week. Now feeling mild sides mainly slight ED. Maybe take a little longer to get going, feels ‘strange’ downstairs almost like blood flow is less. Not sure what to do now, whether to persist with it, drop dosage or go to topical. Not sure how effective dropping the dosage would be as it might not be enough for my hair. Could really do with some advice. Feeling quite down about it now. Was looking forward to the future as I was finally doing something about my hair loss. Thanks all
  8. @Gatsby thanks for the response. I know waiting at least 6 months is the thing to do but when it’s thinned out more in 3 months whilst on fin than it did 3 months previous whilst not on fin it really doesn’t fill me with much hope.
  9. @LaserCaps Thanks for the response. I am aware of the difference between hair loss and hair shedding. My main takeaway is the fact the my hair loss has gotten worse over the past three months when if anything i expected it to at least maintain.
  10. @Curious25 @JDEE0 Thanks for the response. I have been thinking about increasing the dosage but not sure. I just see people on forums groups etc getting too results after 3/4 months and it’s just a bit demoralising really when mines just pretty much got worse.
  11. Hi all. Finally took the plunge and started taking finasteride mid June. Started off by taking 0.25mg twice a week for a week, then went up to 0.25mg 4 times a week, then to 0.5mg 4 times a week and now taking 0.5mg Monday and Sunday and also 1mg Wednesday and Friday. I’m pretty sure I’ve gone through a shed as I’m quite below baseline when I look back at pictures from July. Temples have receded more, crown has thinned out and hair generally feels thinner all over. Only been taking 3mg a week for around 3/4 weeks now as I’ve read this can be enough of a dosage and minimise sides. Honestly thought I’d start seeing something positive by now but if anything my hair is the worst it’s ever been. Still shed around 5/6 hairs in the shower. Really My question is should I stick to 3mg a week or start taking more? Part of me feels like what’s the point. Built up the courage to take it and it’s just getting worse even quicker Should probably add I’ve got NW3 hairline with crown thinning but I’m also diffusing all over. Sorry for the long write up All advice is welcome. Thanks in advanced.
  12. Bumping this topic. Would appreciate to hear some thoughts Thanks in advance
  13. Hi all. Could really do with some advice around medication, more specifically finasteride. Initially I tried finasteride around 1 year ago 0.25mg EOD. Was only on it for like 6 days in total. Felt weird whilst I was on it, felt ‘numb’ downstairs like there’s no feeling and struggled to get an erection whereas usually no issue. Looking back Im certain it was all in my head. Recently I’ve been thinking about giving finasteride another shot as my hair is getting worse as I’m a diffuse thinner. What I’m unsure of is whether to try topical this time or to give oral another shot. Apologies for the long post. All suggestions and advice is welcome.
  14. Hi all I was wondering if anyone knew whether hair texture changes when losing your hair?
  15. Think I just need to get my donor area inspected by a doctor so I know where I stand.
