It looks like they did absolutely amazing work. I'm blown away they were able to get 4,000 grafts. I was planning on going to Feller to get my revision surgery, but now thinking I may do Eugenix as well. You said Dr. Sethi doesn't do a lot of surgeries. Can you just sign up and wait like 2 years until he becomes available lol.

UNNATURAL HAIRLINE - Repaired by Dr Cooley
DJNordwood replied to HairNTear's topic in Hair Transplant Reviews
Hi @HairNTear – I'm about 6 months out from an FUE surgery and am seeing a lot of similarities to your before photos. If you don't mind my asking, what was the cost for the procedure? I have a feeling, depending on how I fill out the next 6 months or so, I may be following in your footsteps. -
Thank you folks! Great, thoughtful input. @transplantedphil Great points. 200 grafts are still grafts, and I'm already anticipating a second procedure in 1-2 years for the crown. Scarring, looking to the future and needing probably 2 more procedures long term, would present problems. @Curious25 and @gillenator – I am risk averse myself, to a fault. I feel apprehension about the whole procedure, whether the new doc is involved or not. (Was reading about the frequency of lidocaine toxicity in HTs earlier, which – while it seems rare – still freaks me out.) Which is why I posted on here. Wanted to get outside perspective since my anxiety about the whole procedure is so unreasonable lol. @Gatsby – I feel the same way, like it'd be kinda nice to help a new doc, but also ultimately I don't care lolol. I'm the one who needs to be happy with the results at the end of the day. @Concord75 – 15% off the entire procedure, which makes it feel like a liability to me lol.

@transplantedphil That seemed like the bigger risk to me than losing a few grafts. But with such a small number of punches, I'm not sure how much of a concern this is. Probably enough to do some damage. @Curious25 Thank you for your response! I don't want to out the clinic on here since they're offering to give me a break, but it's a 15% difference in cost. It's already more affordable than some others. I'm not talking bottom of the basement prices, but it's not Alvi Armani. Price was somewhat of a consideration, but this surgeon's results posted by users on here have been stellar and everyone sings his praises.

Hey guys! Quick question for you lovely folks. I'm talking to a well respected surgeon about an FUE procedure to rebuild my frontal hairline (3500 grafts). I tried to get a break on the pricing, and the doctor offered a substantial discount if a new doctor punched up to 200 of my 3500 grafts (under his supervision). I realize the younger doctor's punches could suffer a lower survival rate than the experienced surgeon, but she will not be making any of the recipient sites or placing any of them (technicians are placing). She is a dermatologist who is seeking to get into FUE. Her dermatology patients love her, and she has punched with this doctor before. I am told by the clinic that she is proficient at punching. It SOUNDS low risk and potentially worth saving a couple of bucks, but I wanted to run it by my friends here. What are your thoughts? Hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Man, I hope so! I'm having a phone consult with another doc today and trying to arrange an in-person consult here in LA. Like someone else said earlier in this thread, that will give me the best idea of the state of my donor region. One doctor's office I've been emailing back and forth with (and am most likely to use) floated the idea of mixing beard hair in to cover more ground in the first procedure. But I believe this presents implications for how long you can grow your hair and styling and stuff, depending on how the job is done.

Correction: Split into FOUR, not two lol

That sounds like a really good conservative plan to me. Easing in nice and easy so you're comfortable and can keep tabs on the sides.

My thought was that being on Proscar split into two, it's roughly 1.25 mg. Seems like even on an every 2-3 day dosing schedule that Proscar would produce more sides than Propecia, assuming both were created equal?

@Blower I think I would be hard pressed to find data backing this up. It seemed to be the consensus combing through posts on here over the weekend, as well as some doctor's comments on YouTube. I had the same thought tho, that Marck makes both Propecia and Proscar. Maybe they are produced in different facilities? I don't know.

One doctor recommended I use Proscar and split the capsules into 4. Apparently Proscar has the least sides, followed by Propecia, and generic finasteride is the worst – based on what I've read over the last week. I'm also seeing some doctors recommend taking 1 mg every 2-3 days as opposed to 1 mg daily. Topical finasteride sounds kind of appealing but doesn't seem as well researched.

Wow, thats a crazy amount of improvement! How did you do on the finasteride? Did you tolerate it well? Still on it? Honestly, I wouldn't mind using beard hair, but I just wanna know that I have another hair to go around to long-term give me coverage. I requested several virtual consultations and am trying to see a doctor in person in town who can assess the condition of my hair. I'm on the fence about finasteride, but it sounds pretty safe and that the dosing can be adjusted to minimize issues.

Yeah, I just checked out pics of his job. It looks great! My brother got a job at Alvi Armani about 18 months ago. He has a nice dense hairline in the front but some thinning in the crown, but it doesn't even matter. That front hairline makes such a strong impression and is what people are seeing 90% of the time.

Thanks, Zoomster! Why do you say it'll add to my sex life? Just because I'll have more hair and be feeling good? Lol And thanks John and Melvin! I love how supportive this forum is.

I requested several consultations to see what other think. If I don't take finasteride, it might not be worth doing though, right?

Ohhh okay, now I get it. The top is a IV and the sides are like late II maybe.

When you guys say the sides are high, you mean the deep recession at the temples?

I do, but not so well lit and close of the back. I've kept it buzzed for several months now, not that I think things have progressed much. Here's what I could find in my phone from end of March.

I reached out to several on here and sent these new pics to another doctor I was talking to. Would love to determine if it's worth enduring the stress and expense of using meds/devices if I'm SOL on FUE/FUT. I didn't even know that was a possibility. I thought that was for people that were just REALLY BALD lol. But I guess I'm already pretty close hahaha.

Yeah, I've always had fine hair, so I'm not sure if it's normal or if it's also miniaturizing. Going to grow it out to better determine what I have to work with.

Hi Guys. So after fretting about my hair loss for years, this weekend I started booking online consultations for a HT. I was really excited to rebuild my hairline and take charge of the narrative. So imagine my shock when a respected hair restoration clinic sent an email back based on my photos saying I was not a good candidate for a hair restoration procedure because my final pattern of loss is aggressive and my donor reserves are limited – thanks in part to a retrograde loss pattern. I had not noticed any thinning from the bottom up. (And I've never heard of retrograde alopecia until now.) Maybe I'm in denial, but I'm wondering if my quarantine cut, shaving my neck too high (when trying to clean up stray hairs), and the sun bleaching my neck hairs (I always wear a cap when I walk my dog) created the illusion of thinning at the bottom. Earlier today, I snapped a bunch of pics of my back stoop in direct sunlight to get a good, well-illuminated look of my donor area. Curious if it's as bad as the doc thought and if I should really abandon my dreams of getting a HT to restore my hairline. I've never tried finasteride, and I'm not comfortable with it. I've been aware it was an option for years, but have a drug phobia and knew I'd be too freaked out about the sides. Yet had I tried it and been able to tolerate it starting years ago, I'd have a much better situation to work with now! I recently got some topical minoxidil foam (Kirkland 5% foam), which I had procrastinated starting also for fear of systemic absorption and cardiac sides. I did notice some mild chest pain the days I used it but I think the chances of that being psychosomatic were high. I read about topical minoxidil/finasteride formulations that doctors claim will result in fewer sides. Is there truth to this? I read that plasma levels of finasteride from topical formulations were comparable to taking oral finasteride, which seems to indicate systemic sides would be just as likely. I spoke with Dr. Bisanga's folks and they mentioned a finasteride scalp gel that was formulated to stay local in the scalp, which sounded promising. I'm thinking if I start using the topical minoxidil and maybe spring for one of those iRestore caps, it could improve my situation. I'm starting to consider even taking the plunge on finasteride and trying a low dose (either 1 mg/2-3 days or .5/2 days) to see if I tolerate it and feel relatively normal. I have a feeling finasteride would greatly improve my crown and the quality of the donor hairs in the back. Would love to hear your thoughts. Does my safe donor zone look that small? If I'm unwilling to take finasteride, or if I can't tolerate it, should I even bother with a hair transplant? Thank you!! Really love this site. It's been an invaluable resource for me.
