  1. Hey!

So, 3 years ago I had 2 procedures with an Australian surgeon. The final results are not good and I am looking to get my HT fixed.

I am feeling very overwhelmed by differing opinions, experience of others and the many options.

To those who have had success getting great transplants my question is this...

    Q. What process did you use to research and decide upon a surgeon and procedure that ultimately gave you great results?

Any experience you can share would be greatly appreciated!

@davebot8888 the only two doctors I would ever consider for hairline work are Dr. Rahal and Dr. Ron Shapiro.  Especially for hairline refinement. Keep in mind Dr. Rahal restored my hairline. I don't see Dr. Ron Shapiro talked about on the forms much. But he's a legend. I'm watching a couple of other doctors who have potential, but I'm seeing some rookie mistakes like with your transplant. Whoever you go with. Just make sure they specialize in hairlines. A monkey can increase the density. That's not a problem. Its the details that matter in your case. And I'm sure half the doctors performing hair transplants today, I'm talking about the part-time hair transplant hacks, don't even know about micro-/macro irregularity.

Good news is this is fixable man. Just choose your doc wisely. You have one more shot to get this right. Not trying to be negative. Just make sure to put a lot of thought in your decision, okay 🙂 I'm a repair patient myself and get what you're going through. Free anytime if you have questions.

Thanks heaps for your advice and honesty!

@davebot8888 hey buddy, the issue with your hairline is the transition zone. You need to vary the density. See attached. It should look irregular but take on more density further back, a gradual transition. It's a common mistake with amateur doctors.  Sadly I'm seeing more of it lately.

Ask your doc for micro-irregularity, this is the irregularity you notice up close. What a lot of guys here are referring to as imperfect regularity. And what prevents too straight or solid -looking hairline. You'll notice a big improvement here. Macro irregularity, this is the irregularity you notice from a distance. The subtle curve of the hairline. Not so much an issue in your case.

Hope this helps. Forgive the quick and dirty illustration 🙂 Just make sure you go the doctor who specializes in hairline design. Not just hair transplant Dr. if you know what I mean. Any questions let me know, good luck man.

Thanks for your post, it's really helpful.

One question I have is this: Is there a surgeon that you would recommend for a case like mine?

Dr. Mohebi knocked it out of the park with me and gave me my ideal perfectly imperfect hairline. It was one of the things he was very adamant about educating me on when I had my consultation with him, and it's something he takes a lot of pride in. I remember him going into great detail about how designing a natural hairline is his own artistic outlet and how much joy he gets out of it. I'm happy to reach out to him for you if you want to do an online consultation, or you can reach out to him through his website.

And no matter who you choose, the important thing is that you do lots of research, have consultations with your top choices, and then trust your gut when making the final decision on who to go with.

Thanks so much. Great advice. I'll check out his work immediately :))

I agree that this is primarily a density issue and is easily fixable with the right surgeon. (Use this forum for recommendations and research, research, research!)

That said, I see what you mean about the design of the hairline. It's not horrible, but it is quite linear and I think when having it touched up, focusing on finding a surgeon that really knows how to design a perfectly imperfect hairline will really serve you and make you a lot happier in the long run.

Thanks, I think you're absolutely right about going for a "surgeon that really knows how to design a perfectly imperfect hairline"

I don't suppose you have any suggestions for any suitable surgeons?

    Regards

Hard to say if this is poor work without knowing the condition of your hair prior and how many month post op this is.  1300 grafts may have been appropriate but it just triggered permanent shock loss of existing hairs.  You should ask the doc for his feedback and let us know.

That's a really good idea to get some feedback from the doctor, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

    BTW I'm nearly 3 years post-op

    Hi Dave,

The actual hairline placement doesn't look too bad, I would just go for a 1200 or so graft top up surgery to strengthen the hairline. A very straightforward surgery that'll take no more than a day.

Your donor looks good to go.

Also, lots of Australians go to Dr Bhatti for their surgery, in fact the following Aussie patient's posts convinced me to go over 4 years ago.

    https://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/topic/31508-hair-transplant-with-dr-tejinder-bhatti-of-darling-buds-chandigarh-india/

I hope it all works out for you, feel free to contact me anytime.

    Thanks for the comments.

Do you think just strengthening the hairline with more 1200 grafts would work, or does it need a bit of making it look a bit more jagged or something?

@davebot8888 What are your goals? Do you just want to increase the density? Are you happy with the hairline placement?

Hey, HairLossMentor my goals are to just get it looking good and not fake like it does now. If that is achieved by increasing density and tweaking the hairline then that's what I want to do :)

Part of the problem is that I don't know what it would actually take to make it look right.

1300 grafts FUT for this case...This guy must be a butcher. Never go there again.

If you have the laxity left, I would recommend another FUT

    - Hattingen

    - Hasson and Wong

    - Feriduni

If you decide for FUE, I would go with specialists for diffused thing and use implanter pen or do work by themself

    - Lorenzo

    - Freitas

    - Lupanzula

    Good luck

Thanks for those names, I have contacted a few of them already and I'll try the others too.

yeah i consulted recently with Knudsen as well - even some of his before and after pics on his website have this exact same problem.

Do you know if you had an FUT or FUE? And what was the graft count? When was it done and do you also have any pictures of your donor area (back of your head)?

It honestly looks like an easy fix. In the meantime I'd consider using toppik to add some much needed density to your hairline if it's troubling you

Thanks for your comments. I had FUT - a total of 1300 grafts. I don't have any photos of the back of my head that show very much but see the one attached. I have had my hair pretty short but I haven't noticed any scars showing if that helps.

I hope your right in it being an easy fix!

To make a judgement of the transplant we need clear pre-, intra- and post-OP pics. Seems like density is missing, but without pics it is not easy to understand if it is a lack of growth (bad) or a lack of density planted (better).

Also your pics are to poor to judge if the detailes of the hairline is good (e. g. singles or multies, micro iregularities) or not. The overall design appears OK.

Nevertheless, regarding your age (sorry) it seems like you should have some donor left and this could be easily fixable with a great clinic. Maybe consider someone using implanter pen. However you need to travel in my opinion (EU, US, Canada, Turkey, India)

Good points. Unfortunately I don't have any great pre-op photos.

I agree that I need to travel, is there a surgeon or clinic that you know of that might be suited to this?

I'm in the research stage and its always great to get a recommendation!

It’s likely that you can get this fixed.  Your procedure and touch up were modest so you’ve probably have enough donor to reshape and thicken your hairline. 2000 grafts or so would give you a major improvement.  I’d look at Konior or Gabel for your case. They do excellent hairline repair work and the size of the procedure is right in their sweet spot. If you are in Europe, look at Devroye or Feriduni. In Canada, Dr. Wong. Keser in Turkey if money is an issue.

Thanks for that! I'll research those names.

  13. Hi There,

    Long story short,

    I have 3 questions:

1.) Can this Hair Transplant be fixed?

2.) What needs to happen to fix it?

3.) Can you recommend a surgeon to do it?

    - Please check out the photos (all recent) Dry Hair, Wet Hair, In bright Sunlight etc

    - I am willing to go pretty much anywhere in the world.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

Now that's out of the way, here's some more info:

In 2014 I had 1000 grafts, and after another 18months I got another 300 free from the same surgeon. Now that some time has passed and I have some money saved I want to get this fixed for good.

Please be honest and share your experience and opinions!

    Thanks.
