  1. Hey guys,

I have my first in-office HT consultation coming up with a reputable surgeon in a few weeks while I'm in the U.S for work and I'm just wondering what is the general consensus of the best and most helpful questions to ask while in these consults?

I'm going to do an in-depth and thorough step by step account of my journey with all of this starting from the consultations so hopefully it can help others going through it. If it wasn't for a lot of the people on this forum doing something similar I wouldn't have the knowledge I do now so paying it forward only seems right.

  2. Great topic, I'm in New Zealand and this is something I consider all the time. I wouldn't waste my time going to any local "HT docs" because the industry is almost non existent here. From the sounds of it online consultations are the next best thing to an in person consult with an expert so try there first bro... I've got my first of 3 consults while I'm in North America coming up at the end of the month, whoever gives me the most info and seems genuine gets my money and time basically.

  3. Wow this is a great result so far, it's good to see a solid result from Rahal, do you remember the name of the techs involved? Also, how involved was Dr Rahal himself?

Also do you have pics of your donor area right after the transplant and int he proceeding months?

Thanks and what is DHT? I understand it’s what we produce but it’s impact with FUE

Should I start on any hair treatment preventive measures already?

Based on your pattern of hair loss, quite frankly yes you should, at the very least you should start on finasteride to see if it can help slow your loss and possibly strengthen up the hair you still have.

    Thanks Kiwi,

I think it's important guys out there know about our community. We are not perfect, but we're the number one community for hair transplants and that actually have non-biased reviews with real patients. Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it🙌

Without a shadow of a doubt mate, you and Bill keep this place up to scratch and relevant constantly. People come here to be informed and not only you but plenty of the other knowledgeable members really do lend their expertise to help those who are struggling with this issue, it doesn't go amiss at all. When a forum can have world leaders in a particular subject interact with their members (e.g all the great HT surgeons we have that come on here and interact with us plebs by answering our questions and lending their advice and expertise) it shows just how important of a tool it is for both patient and surgeon. Yes it's a business and most of us get that but for all of us men it's personal more than anything... this particular community should be quite proud actually.

  6. Hi there,

Most of this seems to come down to personal preference but in my opinion...

Manual FUE is the best option of the two

    Definitely not robotic

Density measures like a surgeon measuring the thickness of the caliber of your hair is so that they can work out what level of coverage you will achieve based on your hairs characteristics

How do you judge the skill level of a surgeon? Results my friend, results. Look at as many examples of hair transplants as you can, good results and bad, list your top surgeons and narrow it down based on how often you see a solid to strong result that you would wish them to replicate based on your own hair loss pattern and goals.

  7. Hey bro, fellow NZ native here too, good luck on your decision, I've been doing a lot of research trying to find the right doc to do my hair transplant with as well, I know quite a bit about each of the top ones at this point due to the research, if you want any info just PM on here.

In terms of the surgeons you stated, both a very well renowned... have you had online consultations with both clinics?

Also has the FIN stabilized your hair fall? If not, just based on that alone and knowing your family history I would suggest going with FUT as it is known to produce a better yield of grafts, leaves the donor in better condition for future procedures and also because it is a significant amount cheaper than FUE.

Chin and jawline it may be visible.  Scarring is there but limited if it is under the chin, most folks may not see it in that location as it really not an area the eues focus on much, but there will be scarring. Depends on size of punch used too.  Could be noticed close up.  For some folks it shows more than others.  Speaking from experience and also friends who have done this.

On a side note, if working on hairline keep beard and nape hairs far away.  Could be used maybe for crown, fill scars, or random filler hair.  In general, Yield is not that good either.

    best of luck

That makes sense, facial hair and hair on your head are vastly different so it probably isn't the best idea other than for the purposes you mentioned.

    Cheers boys.

@Kiwi Guy I'm not sure if his office is ok with disclosing the costs. Anyone know? If so, I'm happy to share 🙂

No that's fair bobble, you don't have to risk doing that, at the end of the day he's on my list of surgeons so when I send my emails I'll get to know the cost at that point, thank you for the info.

@mephesto @Kiwi Guy, I'm not sure he took any of the scar, so here's one I tried to take. However, it's nearly impossible because its pretty much INVISIBLE! It's really pretty incredible. Right now it's a little sore, as to be expected, and so in my mind it's much bigger. But I literally can't even find it with the camera. See below.
Also, Dr Cooley and Brandi worked side by side the entire time. We had some funny banter than I wasn't sound asleep haha.

We didn't spend any extra time in Charlotte unfortunately, bc my wife needed to get back for obligations (cats). So i'm mostly taking it easy at home and trying not to bump my head.

@OliverAtom, I decided to got with FUT for several reasons. For one, the price. But also, I'd been advised from many on here that the first procedure is better off FUT because if you do FUE, then you might limit the donor area in the future if you need more. But mostly it was the price. I don't keep my hair too short anyways, so I don't mind the scar. Plus I can always make up some battle story if anyone ever saw it 🙂

Oh so you had an unshaven FUT... did this cost more? Thank you answering the questions by the way, I really appreciate it.
