  1. I didn't have a ton of pain but rather just very uncomfortablewhen sleeping. I slept sitting up for the entire first week almost. My sutures came out on day 7 and after the sutures came out, it wasn't as bad sleeping on pillows. My hair surgeon instructed me to not let water hit the top of my head directly for the first 3 days. However, after that he said it was ok to let the shower hit my transplanted area.
  2. I had a consultation with Dr. Williams a little over 3 years ago and didn't necessarily find him compelling enough to use his services. However, you should schedule a consultation with him. Dr. Alexander is located in Phoenix, AZ and he will even put you up in a hotel during your stay. Dr. Alexander is the physician I used.
  3. Do most people get their prescription from their hair surgeon or their family doc? I went and saw my family doctor a few years ago and she didn't feel comfortable prescribing me Propecia. Thus I have been purchasing Propecia online for ~ 3 years.
  4. I would talk with your doctor, but I had very similar side effects for the first 3 - 4 weeks; however, thinks eventually went back to normal for me. I've been on Propecia now for ~ 3 years.
  5. Hey Mailman -- regarding the donor incision, you couldn't even see mine the day after surgery. It still had the sutures in until day 7 but my hair is long enough to cover it.. so it all really depends on how long your hair is over the donor area. I took 21 days off of work (go back to work this Friday.. finally!) and I do not recommend that long. All of my scabs fell off between days 9 - 11 post-op. I didn't do anything to my hair prior to the surgery; however, Dr. Alexander did shave parts of my hair that he did the transplant on.
  6. Swelling is normal and uncomfortable! I slept at a 45 degree angle for 3 or 4 days post-op, and I used an ice pack on my forehead and donor area. I also decided to start taking Ibuprofen post-op day 3 or 4. Ibuprofen is an NSAID and really helps decrease inflammation/swelling. However, I would talk to your doctor before taking Ibuprofen.
  7. Dr. Alexander recommended that on post-op days 3 - 10 to use Neosporin or Bacitracin. He instructed that I apply either to my scabs 1 hour prior to showering. I did what he instructed; however, I did use mineral oil on post-op days 7 and 8 and by day 9 or 10, all of my scabs were gone. I was never told to use a spray bottle to keep them moist. However, I would follow whatever your physician tells you.
  8. My results seem to be similar to PathsPatient. I am 2 weeks post-op and I have nearly all of my hair grafts thus far and they appear to be growing... I am waiting for them to start falling out.
  9. Wow, I am suprised a doctor would wait so long to take out the sutures. I took mine out at 7 days (per Dr. Alexander's orders). I work as a registered nurse and I can tell you that the norm in the hospital to take out a patients sutures post-op is 7 - 10 days (of course depends on the surgery). But it all depends on what your physician orders -- follow their orders.
  10. Romeone1 -- you definitely have legitimate concerns. When I decided to get my HT, I didn't think to ask a ton of questions but rather did a ton of research and then picked a very reputable hair surgeon. Although when I was getting my HT done, I spoke with the hair techs (while they were doing the implantation) about their work experiences. Perhaps I did the process backwards.. haha.. but I understand your concerns.
  11. Hoose -- I recently had a HT, and I work a job where I was able to take of 3 weeks of work; however, I can tell you that I would not have felt comfortable going back to work at 1 week post-op. I follow my doctors order about washing and using products to help the scabs come off; however, I had a lot of scabs at 1 week post-op. I am 2 weeks post-op today and I would have no problem going back to work (I fortunately get 1 more week though!). I think at day 9 or 10 post-op was when I felt as though I probably could have gone back to work.
  12. Absolutely not! There are many reasons why I opted to finally get a HT -- however, someone else put it into perspective for me. A female coworker said to me "women get plastic surgery all the time... a man getting a HT is very similar and you shouldn't feel guilty or shallow for doing so".
  13. I recently got a HT from Dr. Alexander and paid $4 per graft (2500 - $10,000). I am not sure if he "barters" as I did not try, but I would bet that some hair surgeons would drop their price if you talked to them. On a side note -- I went on a consultation with Dr. Williams in Las Vegas, NV nearly 3 or 4 years ago and did not use his services; however, nearly 2 years later, a representative from his office called me and offered me a "deal" if I was willing to do a HT surgery with him. Thus, I think some surgeons are willing to work with you.
