  1. This female patient was suffering from the effects of temple recession which is fairly common in even younger females, but rarely discussed. Dr. Josephitis consulted with the patient to discuss options for reconstructing her temples to regain her feminine hairline. A procedure of 1752 grafts using FUT accomplished the goal with one pass, as the density and design were appropriate given her characteristics and her requirements. This video has been produced in Ultra HD 4K resolution for the maximum level of detail visible.
  2. Typically a strip will give you more grafts but in some cases it won't be by much as it depends on the donor laxity and how you heal from the procedure. For some aggressive cases of loss or those with potential for aggressive loss the approach of strip first, FUE second makes a lot of sense but it isn't always a black and white issue. You should consult with multiple clinics including ones that regularly perform both procedures.
  3. You ultimately don't know how your heal when it comes to FUE extractions so as Pkipling stated, one of the biggest factors in how short you can cut your hair is the extraction pattern, or rather, the lack of a pattern. When FUE is performed incorrectly and grafts are taken from too small of an area the result can be even worse than a strip scar with regards to how limiting it can be. No one wants a square patch over the entire posterior donor area. Punch size, extraction technique all play into the scarring as well as the potential donor shock and all these play into how short you can or cannot buzz your hair.
  4. You should speak to your clinic about this as they should have given you a postop "do's and don'ts" list including when you can wash your hair. If you ask a number of clinics they'll tell you from a few days to a couple of weeks.
  5. Sometimes, what we expect, can be the polar opposite of the truth. For instance, Dr. Shapiro is on this very list:) SMG has been performing FUE for ten years and have for many years been at the forefront of the North American push for adoption. Dr. Shapiro has been working closely with our Euoropean colleagues that established an early reputation for FUE excellence and with this collaboration the foundation for the World FUE Institute was laid, of which we are senior members. The WFI is an organization founded for the promotion and training of FUE and is manned by some of the most respected names in the field. We're proud of our approach to FUE as we are a doctor only FUE clinic, meaning only a doctor will score and extract FUE grafts, and after having extensively used every FUE tool and method on the market for the past decade we are confident to say that our FUE work MATCHES our FUT work, which our stellar reputation has been built on, and our patietns agree.
  6. 500 grafts is enough for a first pass and will give you coverage but the rest of your hair is quite dense so a second pass will most likely be in your future. How many more grafts is hard to say.
  7. As with any hair loss treatment you have to understand what you're getting into before you commit. PRP is controversial for a number of possible reasons, but I believe it boils down to the basics. 1. PRP is not a standardized procedure and the details of how it is performed will vary from clinic to clinic. This is why you have variable outcomes on top of the fact that it works well in only a subset of patients. PRP tends to work better in patients that don't have aggressive hair loss, to the point of being bald. Those that have a general diffused thinning react better because there is more hair to "revive". 2. PRP can also be oversold in various clinics where the potential outcome is exaggerated. It isn't a miracle treatment but it can help patients that meet the requirements for consideration. PRP is a good treatment to consider if you meet the requirements for candidacy and you're not willing to go with the finasteride route. The shock loss issue is some that any valid treatment can cause as you're resetting the growth cycles and when done on a large scale shedding can increase. This is true of every valid non-surgical option in existence.
  8. The only thing that could remotely be considered as an influencing factor for hair loss due to sleep apnea is the stress that sleep apnea can have on the body. Aside from that there shouldn't be any other real factors that would affect your hair.
  9. Matt Zupan has been a fixture with SMG for the past 27 years. He's been known to thousands of our patients, online and offline, as a reliable and informed patient educator, but more importantly he's been an ethical representative for our clinic. Everyone was excited to know that Matt was finally going to get his first hair transplant after consulting so many thousands of patients over the years. Matt has shared some of his photos already but we finally were able to shoot some video and put this together for a more comprehensive representation of how his result turned out.
  10. Thank you all for your patience. This particular case is a success due to the approach by Dr. Paul. There is no combover effect going on here as it is merely a side part like any male would wear that has no or relatively moderate hair loss. After restoring the frontal zone it is no different for this patient. This video includes a photo of the placement immediately after the procedure as well as a high resolution comb through of the final result. This is 3763 grafts via the strip technique one year after the procedure.
