  1. I would like to add the experience I've had since first introducing myself to Spex about 2 years ago. I contacted Spex looking for advice on repairing a series of bad procedures that I had from clinic in London. After exchanging a few emails I travelled to the UK from Ireland to see Spex in person and where I received some very informative advice. Spex is a genuinely nice guy to deal with and full of enthusiasm on anything ht related. I felt he had a genuine concern for helping me get fixed up having been through a similar experience previous to me. The advice I got was invaluable to me, optimistic but cautious. He also gave me good advice on propecia. 5 months later I went for a repair with Dr Feller who I'm thankful to say has fixed me up. For me, Spex has been a great source of information, before during and after my procedure with his willingness to provide advice and information to anyone who asks.
  2. Hi , this is my 15th month and final update. I feel as though I am most definitely done at this stage and as a result have been paying less attention to my progress, which probably explains my lack of activity on my blog in the past few months. However I think its only fair I post my end result as the members here have been a great help to me over the past 18 months. My overall view of my procedure is that it has been a definite success for me and more than I could have hoped for when I had all but given up on ever having a successful outcome after previous failures in a London clinic. For that I am very thankful to Dr Feller. Pre Op , before repair. This picture was taken in February 2009, 4 months before my repair session. Although it is not high definition regrettably due to it being one of my earlier shots, I feel that this is a good representation from where I started. 15 Month. Same location , with similar lighting as above, but taken at a higher definition than above. But I also have to be realistic, while I am very happy with how things stand right now, I am also aware that I probably only have about 2500 plus grafts remaining due to previous procedures so at some stage in the future I may be have to rely on technologies that are not yet developed such as Hair Multiplication or high yielding BHT. That is should my hairloss progress in the future. However what I do have in my favour so far is that my hairloss has been slow, I first started loosing hair nearly 20 years ago. In addition I have only been on propecia for the past 18 months and Rogain Foam the past 14 months so I am hoping things hold strong for a while yet. Please check out my blog for the full update with additional pictures.
  3. Best of luck J1, you made a good choice with H&W, make sure to keep us updated.
  4. Just a warning to potential UK based patients. The Nobel Clinic Surrey appear to be trading under a new name ' Gatwick Natural Hair Replacement Centre' same address and phone numbers as the previous. Indeed they contacted me recently by post recently offering some kind of discount if I returned. Thanks but no. Avoid at all costs.
  5. Keep you pants on there, Scar. Read the opening post again maybe. Brow's question is twofold, 1) 'which method is the less painful' which I took as meaning pain on the day of the operation and I standby in saying its the same once you're under anestethic , however in hindsight I should have included the follow on period experienced in the weeks afterwards as Dr Lynsey mentions, so I might give you that one . 2) 'which has a faster recovery time? eg when you can go back to work etc? 'Keep it real, 'post-op' depends?? Depends?? Are you kidding?' 're. comfort, FUE vs strip - there is NO comparison. It doesn't "depend" on anything. It is as clear as night and day. I'll also ask you to reread my reply also. Nowhere in my post did I say that it 'depends' as to which is the is the most comfortable.' My depends' comment is regarding the second of Brow's questions and to which there is most definitely a difference, depending on an individual's circumstances as to which procedure can best facilitate a persons return to work. Take as an example of a patient who needs 1500 hairs into the hairline who is not in a position to shave their head and has existing hair to cover the hairline, who do you think will have a better chance of returing to work undetected in 14 days?
  6. Having had both strip and FUE I would say that regarding pain in the donar, there is no differerance on the day, you get your few injections and its all the same, a few minor pricks of a needle and thats it. Also in the recipient area there is no difference wheather you have strip or FUE. As for recovery it depends on a few factors as to which is more of a advantage. If you normally shave your head at the back you can probably get back to work quicker with FUE than strip and FUE will allow you to get back to full excercise without the concern of scar stretching, but if shaving your head is a concern then strip is easier to disguise in the week or two after the procedure.
  7. I agree with Mike and aw33 here, get on the meds straight away, definitely FIN and rogaine foam, and give it a year. Then after a year if required, continue research on a transplant. Also theres only 1 decent clinic in UK IMO, that is Fargo in Manchester but don't rule out travelling to the US or Canada, thats where some of the top notch HT doctors are based.
  8. Spex/ BHUK, thanks for your replies, I will be sure to update again on 12 months.
  9. I think your result is very good. You've effectively went from what looks like a northwood 6 or close to it to a good head of hair in 4000+ grafts. Of course a further session will be of benefit, to fill in the crown and refine the existing areas but its not an necessity for now IMO.
  10. Dr Feller/ Bill Thank you for your replies and observations, it is good to get the feedback. Regarding observation, did the central area thin to a cosmetically significant degree from the pre op stage? My gut instinct would be that is hasn't at least not significantly, as I believe that the area was mostly previously transplanted hair. I'm also hoping that propecia will have stabilised things for now. The before photos taken at your office suggest that I had good prior thickness in the central area, this could be a bit misleading as it was partly down to the way the hair was combed. I have found a previous photo taken in Feb last year pre last HT, that is a more like for like representation with my post op pictures. Location and lighting is similar, regrettably it is not high definition as my early pictures are a bit hit or miss. Pre OP 10 months Of course I could also be wrong and may have had some native hair in there as well that was on its way out, but either way, I will be sure to post up some new photos again in 2 months.
  11. I've just hit the 10 month mark, see link below, thanks. I'm very happy with the transformation so far, thanks to Dr Feller and team. 10 Month Update ---
  12. The technique that you refer to for extracting body hair is FUE (also used from head hair donor), but as with strip, once the follicles are harvested they don't grow back. It might appear this way because the resultant donor scarring is much less when compared to strip, but FUE procedures will deplete the donor whether its from the head or body. BHT however gives you extra resources to extract from when the head area is used up, but it has its limitations regarding yield and it can be very expensive.
  13. Hi Guys, I will soon be travelling to Canada (non hair related) and am wondering if I can expect any issue with bringing propecia with me in checked in luggage. I have seen quite a few posts where Canadian airport customs can be somewhat stricter than US customs, so just wondering if any anyone experienced any problems with this in the past.
