  1. Thisguy, Thank you for your response. I'm afraid the hair loss on top and on my crown is worse than it looks in my recent pictures. Right before New Years, when the fact that I was balding sunk in, I freaked out and shaved my head completely bald. I attached a photo of the top of my head from around that time, when my hair was just growing back in. It may be a better representation of what I've lost. What you see in my original post is how my hair has grown since then. I've let it grow out a bit in the hope that it will make the balding less apparent. I might take your advice and try Propecia. I'm very nervous about it, but the incidence of permanent side effects is low right? I know you said that I shouldn't count on regrowth, but do you think it might fill in the diffuse area a bit?
  2. A majority of my hair loss happened within the past 3 years which is when my (unrelated) depression/anxiety and weight gain began. So the timing was not good and it made me even more depressed. I used to not care about my hair but I'm getting borderline obsessed with it now, checking the mirror daily and taking photos of the progression. Despite the fact that I shaved it bald during my initial freak-out, I am letting it grow. I'm at that stage where some days it doesn't seem that bad, but others it looks horrendous. When I look in the mirror, what I see looking back at me is not the same person from a few years ago. Most of the time, I feel like I look old and ugly. It has really made me take a hit in the self-esteem department. Photos always show how bad it is. It's like a part of me is going at too young an age - Most of my friends are not having this issue. Also, the finality of MPB bothers me - Knowing that if I let things ride, it will just get worse and that the chances of getting any of it back are slim to none.
  3. Hey there. Your hair loss almost looks like the same pattern as mine, but a bit further along. Finestride and Rogaine are most effective at restoring crown loss and while yours is definitely thinned out, it's not completely bald. I think that you will probably have a good chance of re-growing a decent amount of hair there. Best of luck! Hope to see how this turns out as you get further into your treatment!
  4. Hi (I posted this in the wrong forum before, so I asked a mod to delete and re-posted here), I'm a 30 year old guy who has been balding about 7 years, but a majority of it has happened in the past 3. The story in my profile has the details. Anyway, my hair loss has gotten severe enough to where I'm very bothered by it. Mainly because I feel as if I'm at a turning point where if I don't take action, I may as well say bye to a decent head of hair. I'm trying to find out whether Finasteride will be effective in reversing my type of hair loss to the point where it's cosmetically acceptable. I understand that the drug is not a miracle worker and probably won't restore my hair line, but I'm hoping that it may be able to help enough so that the untrained eye won't easily notice I'm balding. The potential (albeit small) chance of permanent sides scare me, so this is not something I'm taking lightly. I'm also looking for opinions on how severe my hair loss is - I feel like it's bad, but my family does not seem to agree. Thanks in advance. I've attached some photos.
  5. I'm only a few years older than you and I would kill to have your hair. Honestly, when my hair loss was at your stage I didn't even notice it. I don't think anyone without a trained eye would see that anything is going on. I would say not to sweat it and live your life But I can understand how it may bother you. If it is, keep an eye on it and act accordingly. Maybe everyone saying that the generic fin is not as effective has something to do with it. Or try other topicals, etc.
