Your Hair Loss Story
Hello- my name is Joe.
So how I got here.....
I first noticed my hair was thinning at the age of 25 via a wedding picture. Shortly after, I started noticing it in other pictures and the comments started to pick up from friends and family. It was a terrible realization, especially since my grandfather was bald by the age of 30 and my fathers side has a lot of bald men as well.
My research slowly began after I noticed my hair was thinning. My first stop was the Bosley Center in NJ. Although I would never use any big brand names like Bosley for Hair Surgery, it was a good first experience. The consultation went well. He was very honest and said I was no where near needing a hair transplant. This was relieving in one instance, and also made me start to lay a good foundation for realistic expectations long-term. He told me to take Propecia and Rogaine. I believe he even wrote out a prescription for me. I battled with the idea for a while and decided against it at that point.
I kept it on the back burner for about 2 years. However, I started doing more and more research online about hair loss and solutions. I believe I found this place 2-3 years ago. I've been creeping on here ever since following everyone's stories and doing research on possible Doctors and such. This place has been really inspiring to say the least. It offers a great support system and great for research.
I moved to the Philadelphia area in 2013- I soon researched online a local surgeon by the name of Dr. Gallagher. He was a very nice guy, but I knew within the first few minutes I would never really consider him for surgery. My feelings were backed up when I researched him on here. However, he was honest and said to start Propecia and Rogaine right away so I can delay the surgery for 10+ years.
I have recently dealt with UPENN for and updated consultation. I was prescribed 1 mg propecia. I find myself on the fence again. I am leaning towards taking propecia every other day and going from there. Possibly adding in Rogaine.
And that has all led me here- FINALLY signing up as an official member.
