  1. The requirement depends upon the density and the surface area.Around 300 grafts would be enough to cover this much of area with moderate density.
  2. Yes you can color your hair after 4 months. Be careful and use ammonia and PPD free hair dye.
  3. Shedding of transplanted hairs may occur sometimes in the first few weeks , however, it is not a constant phenomenon and the percentage of hairs which shed vary individually. Some patients do not shed hairs at all so it is absolutely normal if you haven’t experienced any shedding yourself. Even if there is shedding, you will start to see the hair growth start at 3 to 4 months after the surgery; this hair will be very fine and minute at first. At 6 months around 40% the hair will have appeared, however they won’t be fully grown. It takes up to 12-18 months for a full growth to occur. Shedding of the native (original) hair or shock loss can also sometimes occur post operatively. This is quite rare and if it occurs it will always regrow in 3-4 months.
  4. We advise to not swim in swimming pools with chlorine in the first 14 days after the transplant surgery as the chemicals may damage the grafts, it is however safe to swim in the sea from 5th day onward. Do not dive. After day 14 you can swim in swimming pools and apply sun lotion to the scalp and wear a hat if needed.
  5. Judging from your pictures at 4 weeks following your repeat transplant of 2300 grafts, I don’t expect a drastic improvement in the patchy look of the back of your head later on. Although as your hair will grow further, it might improve your coverage a bit, but I feel that it won’t be still enough to cover all the empty areas. It’s still a bit early to predict the extent of full coverage possible but we could have a much better idea after around 2 more months.
  6. It is not advisable to harvest the grafts outside the limits of the safe donor area, however the definition of “safe donor area” is not universal and there is some degree of variations among various surgeons. Furthermore, the apparent safe donor area may also depend on each individual also, for e.g. relating to their family history etc. Hence, a detailed examination with your surgeon is must beforehand to determine the number of grafts which could be taken out safely from your donor zone.
  7. From the looks of it, it seems some degree of overharvesting has been done outside the safe donor zone. At day 11 it is still early to call whether the overharvesting will be camouflaged completely by the adjoining hairs when they grow in length. For now, all you can do is wait and watch. My advice would be to keep your hair longer and not trimmed lest the patch is obvious.
  8. Dr. Kapil Dua from Ludhiana is a man who has created an impeccable reputation for himself and much of it has come from his expertise and proficiency in his field, which is hair transplantation. Not only is he the present President of the AHRS India, he also recently became the first Indian to demonstrate live surgery in the Asian Hair Transplant meeting, held in Bangkok Thailand. 11. Hi, sometimes after transplant the implanted hair may not shed in some individual and start growing directly. So it’s normal. You have not attached any Pic or even the detail provided is not enough to understand the other problem you are mentioning. So my suggestion is to provide a good quality photograph with highlighted area/marking of the area you are worried and explain your concern in bit detail so we can guide you accordingly or you can consult with the doctor who had operated you as he has better insight in your problem.
  12. The visibility of tiny pin head scars due to FUE varies greatly among the individuals. If larger than 1 mm punch is used to extract the grafts then there are more chances that the scars will be visible. Further it also depends upon the density in the donor area, how these extraction scars are spaced out. The lateral trauma occurs to surrounding skin during the extraction. If you are planning to shave your head completely than it may be visible despite of best care but if you are planning to keep them at around 2-3 mm of length the visibility can be greatly reduced. If the placement of hair is done with proper understanding of their direction and angle of emergence to the skin by using most sophisticated instruments by the experienced team than it unlikely that it will look weird. For the scar on donor sites, if you feel they are too much prominent you can take the option of SMP – Scalp Micro Pigmentation to hide them and believe me it works pretty well for those who want to have buzz cut even without transplant but again there are some limitations to it, so need to consult in detail with the expert hair transplant surgeon for understanding of all of your concerns.
  13. Hi, I hope you must understand that the hairloss you are having is genetic hairloss known as Androgenetic Alopecia. It is progressive condition and you may lose hair in future as well. Now it is very difficult to predict how much hair your will lose in how much time. It can be very slow or it can be fast depending upon the other factors i.e diet, stress, smoking and most importantly the pattern of baldness running in your family. So it should be your decision after understanding the progressive nature of this condition that you may require another transplant in future to fill the gap which will be developed in transplanted area and receding hair line. So if you are clear on that you can go for transplant. Regarding medicine, I would say that the area which is almost devoid of hair will not show any improvement but if there is thinning such part will show some improvement with regular use of medicine but again how much improvement you will get is difficult to predict and require personal consultation and trichoscopy examination. So I hope I have made it clear to you and you should choose your option accordingly.
  14. There is no denying that the entire team of AK Clinics was behind the success of Haircon 2017, but it was the stellar leadership of Dr. Kapil Dua that made it all possible. With Dr. Aman Dua to back and support him, every step of the way, Dr. Kapil was able to ensure that every element of the planning was executed, exactly the way it should. Haircon 2017 was held over three days, 24th, 25th and 26th of February 2017, which is why the presidential dinner was held on the evening of the 23rd. Once the guests had been welcomed and settled in, the conference began in true earnest, with Dr. Kapil Dua leading the charge. On the very first day, he led live surgeries, in which issues such as strip surgery dissection of grafts, FUE; lowering the transection rate were all demonstrated. As a matter of fact, in the surgery that Dr. Kapil conducted, the graft transection rate was zero! All these surgeries were relayed live to a nearby hall, because accommodating everyone in the operating rooms would not have been possible. Dr. Dua also spoke at length about the seven main steps of surgery, which was followed by a lengthy question and answer session. For the very first time, there was a Coffee with Experts session, which allowed a more a detailed interaction. Dr. Dua spearheaded the talk on FUE advancement – as a matter of fact, he is presently the principal investigator on the study on the same, which is being conducted under the aegis of the FUE Advancement Committee under AHRS. The study is presently being conducted in multiple clinics and countries including India, Hungary, Belgium, Portugal and the US. Dr. Dua also invested time on describing the various instruments that are used for these surgeries and how the choices are dependent on factors such as age, ethnicity, and density of hair and so on. Whether it was emceeing the gala dinners or explaining which slits to use for which surgeries, Dr. Kapil Dua proved that he is not only a jack of many trades, but also the master of everything he sets his heart on!
