  1. @BeHappy @secondtryuser @SeanToman @jjalay thank you all for sharing your thoughts and making me feel better!
  2. Hey all - just a quick question. I've just had my second FUE so you'd think I'd be an old pro. I'm 10 days ost-op, but last night (night of the 9th day post op) I went to bed as normal, put my head in the travel pillow like I have for the last 9 nights....woke up in the morning, the travel pillow was at the bottom of my bed (no idea how!) and my pillow has a fair few hairs and dried scabs on it! I'm sure the scabs are old ones from the surgery. No new blood is on my scalp and nor is there any blood stains on the pillow, so it must have just been the friction of turning my head while I slept and some scabs and hairs came out. Do you think I've done any harm? My doc said they should be coming out now anyway through showering, but I got the impression he just told me what I wanted to hear and replied quickly. What do you guys think? Do you think, like my doc said, I just got rid of what needed to get rid of (I've read a lot on this forum about the 10th day being the day when you can let out a big sigh of relief for knowing your grafts are secure)? Or do you think it could have been harmful? I've no idea how hard/fast I turn my head in my sleep! Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
  3. Thanks very much gettingfue and Khokhar, does anyone have any other thoughts or is this generally the consensus?
  4. Hi everyone, I've been searching for a while and apart from the odd video on youtube, and the odd research paper saying that beard hair makes the best transplant donor (except for scalp), I haven't found much else on this topic. I'm particularly interested in surgeons known for successful results at this. I've come across Dr Umar in Manhattan Beach, California. Does anyone know of any other good surgeons? Thanks
  5. Hi everyone, I have recently swapped from branded propecia to generic fin. This reputable UK pharmacy website reassured me: https://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/uk/hair-loss/finasteride However, I have read on this forum that generic fin is ineffective. Does anyone have research or anecdotes to back this up or to suggest that this isn't the case? I'd love to hear everything for and against this! Thanks.
  6. Everything will be fine, don't worry. You're anxiety is something every person who's had a HT can relate to.
  7. Mike Thurston, the youtube guy mentioned in the original post, is going to ruin is HT. I follow him on instagram and he's currently in Dubai with no hat on, lifting hard in the gym, sky diving, swimming in the sea. And his HT was done about 2 weeks ago. Will be interesting to see how this one works out. Maybe a case study for those worried about sun damage!
  8. Isn't this all supporting the idea that race is cultural not biological? Language (therefore culture) as a signifier of race. Nationality (political man-made artefacts) as a signifier of race e.g. Thai, Danish. The abundant diversity of DNA, presumably within races and between them (meaning that there is essentially just this one human race that is heterogenous, rather than all these distinct sub categories). Seems to me, despite being rubbished, GettingFue was edging in the right direction.
  9. The only way to resolve this is to speak professional help, but I'm prone to acne as an adult and have been taking treatment for it for about 20 years. When I got on fin I didn't notice any changes. Good luck man!
  10. I'm inclined to think this study vindicates gettingFUE with the very idea that there are 24 ethnic groups! I agree there is a lot of pseudo-science when it comes to categorising the (one) human race up into lots of little sub categories. I mean, really, 24 races?! Science is itself often influenced and/or motivated by politics of the day - there are many examples were science has been used to justify something that later proved to be wrong.
  11. Thanks for your clarification guys. I know it was an irrational question. I was trying to understand the logic behind advising against clipping the donor with an electric razor. I couldn't understand what impact this would have on the effect of the transplant. I applied this preventative measure to the face as well as the donor. That was my thinking!
  12. I know it seems crazy, but I'm talking about specifically shaving your face with an electric razor. Like, if clippering away from the recipient (on the donor area), is to be avoided post op, why?
  13. I think people misunderstood my question. I'm not talking about shaving the recipient. I'm talking about shaving your face (beard area). Can this have an impact on the recipient?
  14. Hey, Kind of an odd question. With the restrictions on clippering the donor post op for up to a month (but scissor cut is ok), I'm wondering, is there something intrinsically bad about the act of using electric razors on your donor or face, that would have an effect on the recipient? I'm wondering if there is some motivation to avoid using electric clippers on the donor due to the vibrations that they cause, and that this could damage the recipient, and thus, electric razors for the face would pose the same problem. What do you think?
  15. HTsoon, gillenator and Blessup, thanks for your replies and support
  16. Thanks for replying guys, it means a lot. So, am I right in thinking the grafts only get damaged if they get sunburned in a way in which we would notice a sunburn, say, on our face? I have these irrational fears that the fresh grafts were more susceptible to the sun. But it was very brief and I didn't feel the heat on my skin.
  17. Hey guys, About 2 weeks ago I had fue. After the operation (literally 30 minutes after), I was waiting for my car to pick me up outside and I didn't have a hat on. It was about 24 degrees Celsius or 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun was shining. I ended up waiting about 3 minutes. I've read a lot about sun damage, some saying immediately post op is crucial to avoid, others saying as long as it is only for a few minutes and there is no obvious sign of sun burn (there isn't, although with the usual redness of the operation, it's hard to tell, but no other exposed part of my body is burnt) everything should be fine. I spoke to my doctor the next day and he said there is no issue, he does say though to avoid proper sun exposure. I'm going out of my mind thinking that I ruined my growth almost as soon as the operation was complete. Could anyone give their thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi, I have a situation coming up where I'll be out in the sun all day and my HT is about 3-4 weeks old. I'm thinking of doing the following three things together: Wear strong sun screen Wear a bandana over my head Wear a hat over the bandana Is this too much? My scalp will be pretty warm using these three measures simultaneously. Could this increase in temperature actually harm the graphs? Thanks guys
  19. I'm really sorry to hear about your experience mate. I haven't read the full thread so don't know what has been discussed, but I would consider doing a number of things: 1)Save for a good doctor to have enough grafts to cover the area and ultimately give yourself a good transplant. 2)Consider beard and body hair to gain density if necessary. 3)Name the doctor so others hear can be notified and the mods can ensure this experience affects his rating. Good luck, but please try and help others having the same poor experience. It's not fair.
  20. This is an interesting academic journal article about the issue, with the same view being affirmed: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/store/10.1111/j.1464-410X.2009.09089.x/asset/j.1464-410X.2009.09089.x.pdf;jsessionid=189D58E9D31EB8BB54D67341FFCAAB32.f01t03?v=1&t=jbqf5d8g&497fe2ca
  21. Am I the only one who has no idea what 'ed' is? ...but to the original poster - I hope you get better. Remember ,all the side effects you ascribe to finasteride could be caused by something else, particularly if you are anxious about the side effects...worry about not getting an erection can in itself, stop you getting an erection. Sexual problems are one of the most psychosomatic areas of health and well being.
  22. I'm not sure about this, tbh. I just read both the links - thanks for sharing. Really must be the main concern of anyone taking propecia, imo. Would be great if someone on here is a doctor and can give their opinion, or from a regular board member who has really looked into this issue.
