Nicky, I'll just echo what a bunch of the other guys wrote - Propecia has kept most of my hair intact - for a very long time. It's true that it may reduce in effectiveness over time, but you're still preventing significant hairloss. I look at it just like any routine maintenance you need for your home or car. Stay with it...even though it's an expense all of us would like to lose!

Excellent result! You must be so happy! That's a lot of density right up front and knowing it will be there forever must feel great!

Thanks guys. I think I've had some of the transplanted hairs stay and grow, which in a sense is new growth. Dr. Hasson and his techs cut everything so small that there should be less trauma, so there's the potential for more hairs to grow right away.

First and foremost, most of us would KILL to look like James Dean, so if you can pull that off, I think you're fine. That said, the main thing that caught my attention in your post was malnutrition. From my personal research, I found that at the very least, malnutrition can leave you with flat, thin hair. I don't know that any studies have been done on this (what doctor would starve people to see if they lose hair) but stressing your body and depriving it of nutrients is bound to hurt you. Please take time to ensure that you're getting proper food, including your fruits and vegetables - vitamin B complex helps with healing and strong hair - and that will have you on the right track

Looks like your hairline is starting to come in, that must feel great. Glad to hear that the time is passing quickly for you. I'm still looking in the mirror 8 times a day! Look forward to seeing your results over the next two months, that should give you a very good idea.

I'd also like to thank you for a GREAT post. It's just what I needed today. I'm only 5 weeks post-op, but most of my transplanted hairs have fallen out, along with some good shock loss. It sucks to be me at the moment, and it's the one thing I didn't think much about before the surgery. Probably for the better, I worry enough as it is. Here's hoping that in another couple months I'll be at least back to where I was pre-op, and then the fun part really starts.

Hey that's a pretty big scar area, my new scar is kinda like that near the temples due to shock loss. My Dr. said that shock loss around the scar is pretty common and it can take 3-5 months to grow back...so I wouldn't panic yet, but I feel your pain. Waiting sucks...

Looking really, really good so far. Of the transplanted hairs, how many would you say ended up in your crown area? Also, looks like it took about 6 months for the scar to fade - is that right?

Hey Sparse, very encouraging! I'm almost exactly at week 5 post w Dr. Hasson, and I've got similar shock loss at the temple areas of the scar line - sucks, but we just have to wait. I emailed the clinic and they said that the shocked hairs there are normal and should come back somewhere between 3-5 months, so as long as that holds true, you should be in amazing shape before you know it, and I'll be right behind you. Hang in there, it looks like the start of something great.

I think that's a very good result based on how large an area had to be recovered.

Thank you, being patient is NOT a strong suit, but I've got no choice here. Already having some fall out, think that's normal. To answer your questions, no - this is my 1st transplant, and I'm 34.

Hey Guys, I had my 1st hair transplant with Dr. Hasson on Sept 17th of this year. It's finally time to start taking a look at some results! The best part so far was losing the staples. I had some shock loss around the scar (pics on that later) but overall I'd like to think this is good. I had diffuse hairloss thoughout my scalp, so we did more than just my bald crown, plus Dr. Hasson did some work to repair my right hairline, which was going, going gone. Please let me know what you think...Hoping for density!

BillyGlenn, You'll want to ask your doc about that one. What I've been told is not to "pop" anything as you might cause trauma to your hair in that area. You can take a warm, wet hand towel, and hold it on the spot, this should bring the junk to the surface and away from your hair follicle without the popping. However, to be safe I'd really email or call your surgeon.

Whew. Sounds like a plan I should've gotten on 10 years ago! Here's hoping I can pull that off. As to Bash's question: I've had major crown loss (just had surgery w/ Dr. Hasson mid-Sept) and while I defy that Norwood Scale in many respects, it could be as much as a 4 in the crown. Propecia has likely saved additional hair loss to a large degree, but in my case, I can't say that I regrew much.

Hairloser, Thanks for that idea. I'll run it by my primary care doc and see what he thinks. I'm in my early 30's not sure if that makes a difference, but it's worth a shot, and that's a massive amount of savings. Do you still take it once a day?

What's been happening guys? Just curious what everyone's doing about Propecia. I've been taking it once a day for probably 11 years. Sad thing is, the drug just gets more and more expensive! Has anyone found a place where you can get it cheaper? If we can't post links to this sort of thing, please feel free to private message me. Thanks!

It's looking pretty darn good! Must feel great to be seeing that much progress. Keep us all posted, it's great that you're documenting everything for yourself - and us!
