  1. Actually just saw Dr. Beehner the other day. I'm at nearly the 8 month mark, and am very happy with the results. Everything looks extremely natural. I do not have a full head of hair, but the 'frontal forelock' pattern that Dr. Beehner used in my case really gives that illusion. I keep my hair short on the sides (1"), and long (5"+) on the front. The additional grafts from my 3rd procedure have really helped create that layering effect to easily cover any remaining frontal thinning. The scar from my 3rd procedure did stretch on one side. However, Dr. Beehner was kind enough to offer a complementary scar-revision on the small section of the scar that stretched. Over and done with in 30 minutes..very impressive. I'll put up photos by the end of the week. I'd recommend getting a consult with Dr. B if you haven't done so already. He's a really nice guy and is very much a straight-shooter.
  2. Thank you, and best of luck with your growth. Going forward with a HT is a large commitment of both financial and emotional resources, but the progress that usually comes around months 6-8 makes it all worth it. I'm in complete agreement about how natural Dr. Beehner's work is. I work with teenagers; so if anyone was going to make comments about 'fake hair', it would most certainly be them. Not a thing in 3 years! Prior to starting on the HT/Finasteride course, I'd get the regular 'why are you young yet going bald' questions though, of course!
  3. Rootz, I am the patient in those pictures. While I do not have a full head of hair (and won't even after 3rd and final HT grows in), Dr. Beehner's work has greatly changed the course of my life. The hairline is very strong, and does give the illusion from a frontal perspective of a full head of hair. That alone is leaps and bounds above where I was 3 years ago prior to beginning my HT journey. The side profile has also dramatically changed for the better. Yes, density approaching the crown is low...but when my hair is long (currently ~3.5" in length), it 'shingles' quite nicely to cover the thin spots. Given the issues with my donor, I'm elated to have come this far. My 3rd HT has just begun growing in (currently at nearly 4 months post-op), and am optimistic that the 1,300 additional grafts will allow me to brush my hair straight back, as I used to prior to my hair loss rapidly accelerating in my early 30's. Even if I can't get away with that hair style, I'm fine with the one you see in the photos, albeit grown significantly longer. The net result is that I am far more self-confident today than when I presented to Dr. Beehner 3 years ago. I no longer obsess over my hair. I no longer spend 20+ minutes in front of the mirror in a futile attempt to cover a bald spot the size of a half-dollar. I no longer let my hair loss cripple my social interactions. Mission accomplished, as far as I'm concerned. Thank you, Dr. Beehner.
  4. Interesting to consider, but I wouldn't do any of what's mentioned above. Not really necessary if you read up on these boards and go with one of the reputable surgeons on here. Yes, I realize it's totally hypothetical, and all in fun.... I've had two HT's (and a recent 3rd over the summer) and am thrilled with the results now that the 2nd has fully grown. Things are looking great now--have gone from a NW5 to pretty much full coverage when brushing my hair downward--and am confident that I'll be able to pull off the hairstyle I want (brushed straight back) once my last HT has grown in and density has been increased around the hairline. Now..if we were still dealing with the HT technology of 20+ years ago, I'd certainly have to reconsider.
  5. -A couple of cheap pillowcases (assuming you're having an FUT procedure). Your donor will be quite messy for the first two weeks, including some residual bleeding. -Plenty of food, especially things that are easy to prepare. -A bottle of ibuprofin, for pain. -Bacitracin to place in the recipient to speed up the healing process, and you can also put some along the donor to help with crusting. -A comfortable pillow. Your doc should give you prednisone for a few days to help with the swelling. I've had 3 procedures and have never experienced swelling. Best of luck with your procedure.
  6. Yes, it's very standard. My surgeon requires a $1,500 deposit. Other surgeons require deposits that vary with the size of the anticipated procedure.
  7. Very cool. While it does seem that the videos has/will be used for promotional purposes for the clinic...it does not at all have that 'sales pitch' tone. It's great to see a celebrity echoing the messages found on this board--do your homework, have realistic expectation, and get on meds. While I haven't seen his before photos, his restoration looks terrific--very age appropriate and natural.
  8. Thousands of people on this forum have experienced results that have altered the course of their lives. Perhaps that sounds a little extreme, but never underestimate what improved self esteem can do to one's outlook in life... That said...it sounds like you're seeking a guarantee that you're going to get results that meet your expectations. There is no such thing. However, you've done your homework...and are fortunate to have numerous excellent options in your area if you're unwilling to travel. These doctors all have long histories of not only providing superb results, but also rock-solid integrity. Based on their reputations, I would be confident that if something did go wrong (highly unlikely), any of these surgeons would make it right. Sometimes you just have to 'go for it'. Everyone is nervous to the extreme before their 1st HT--I certainly was. I got over the nerves, and can absolutely say getting a HT was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
  9. I'm in agreement that you should wait (you are on Finasteride, correct?) Things look quite decent at the moment. You'd get a nice improvement from just making a few styling changes. You're trying to pull off the 'rock star' cut..but I'd consider brushing it down in front, which would conceal the majority of the thinning area. Once you've already had an FUT, you may as well stick with FUT for future procedures...FUT has a higher yield, and you already have the donor scar. In addition, FUT is more cost-efficient. Assuming you're on meds, my advice would be to wait another 5-10 years before a 2nd procedure.
  10. Now this is a good discussion for this part of the forums. I'll go with between a 6-7 thus far..with the potential for it to be a 10+ within 5 months (when my 3rd and final HT will have presumably begun its 'significant cosmetic difference' stage). Getting ready in the morning is so much easier now. I don't need to obsess over covering up. While things are not entirely perfect, I look good from at least that frontal point of view. I no longer dread looking in the mirror, or obsess over lights shining over my head. That said, It's very challenging to put yourself back out there again after being used to feeling so self-conscious about hair loss. I haven't even attempted to date while undergoing my restoration process. However, I look so much better than I did ~2 years ago...and feel almost ready to get myself back out there. Definitely need to hit the gym hard within the next few months to be really prepared for when this last HT has grown in. I'm sure it'll feel like I'm in high school all over again when I'm out with a girl for the 1st time since beginning the HT journey.
  11. Agreed that you should be fully aware of the growth cycle, both by reading this board and the literature that your surgeon presumably provides in his post-op kit. That said....at month 3, you may begin to notice some 'peach fuzz' forming. It wont be cosmetically significant by any means until at least a month or two later. Grafts in and around the hairline always grew in for me first. Months 5-8 tend to be the 'wow' months.
  12. You're on the right track to make the most informed choice as possible . I'd also recommend consulting with Dr. Beehner, who is up in the Albany area. He does consults in Newburgh, which is about an hour north of the city.
  13. He most definitely did not invent FUT. Bernstein is a good surgeon...but I don't see this board peppered with good results of his. Besides, his prices are absolutely astronomical. I do like his website, however...full of really helpful information. Have you consulted with other surgeons in the area? There's no shortage of recommended docs within a 100 mile radius of Bernstein.
  14. I've attached some photos, as I'm starting to get a bit more concerned. Hair is now 1" in length, and the area of concern is visible even when I try to layer hair over it. The area is raised/inflamed, and sensitive to the touch. Concerned that it may be infected. Have used bacitracin for about 3 weeks. Would you recommend getting in touch with my surgeon, or am I overreacting? Thanks.
  15. This result really frames the patient's face, and does make him look significantly younger. 2,700 grafts is not a large procedure for a patient that has a high level of loss...so I find the results very much in line with expectations for this amount of grafts. I'd imagine another 1,500 or so grafts would finish things off nicely.
