  1. Hey guys, I was seeking opinions on how many grafts I would need to obtain my hair restoration goals. I drew a hypothetical hairline with a sharpie in the photos. You can find recent pics in my "2015" album. I've been quoted around 1500-2000 just recently from a Doctor whose work I hold in high regard. My budget of 5K clearly is not going to cover that. Due to my hair type I was hoping I could get away with far less. For the first time, I am really considering going over seas and currently doing research on possible Doctors abroad who have experience with African American men. Thanks.

Just recent pics of my and my current hair restoration goals.
  3. I think this particular case is impressive. I haven't seen many NW5's on African Americans transformed to something respectable and manually done by FUE. I'm not the bitter type so despite what happened with my procedure, I can still be objective. And this clinic seems to have made fundamental changes since my procedure almost 3 years ago which greatly impact the outcome for African Americans.
  4. Got to give credit where credit's due. This is impressive work on an African American like myself. No more neograft makes me reconsider another trip down to the Carolinas. Still can't beat $4 a graft.
  5. I agree. One can talk "growth" all they want but this case is just an aesthetic disaster. Aesthetics are just as important as actual growth. I suffered the same fate and the same hands. These abysmal results will continue to be overlooked because African American surgery is deemed as a niche and comes with a qualifier, "hair surgery on an African American" opposed to just hair surgery. It's up to us to do our due diligence in researching qualified surgeons and sharing our experiences.
  6. Quite frankly, I am disgusted that history seems to be repeating itself with this Doctor. The lack of good results with African American males from his clinic serves as testimony that he is simply not good with African American males. It's not a "diss" but an objective observation. Otherwise we'd see empirical evidence in the form of ample photos. My result simply wasn't an outlier. Even if Jay sees a miraculous spurt in growth the sparse hairs are going in all types of directions and are not aligned/angled with the native hairs at all. This is exactly what I saw with my result well beyond the 8th month mark, the 12th month, the 18th month, hell it's been 2 plus years. End the charade and just give the guy his refund so he can move on with his life.
  7. That's a Freudian slip if I ever seen one! How apropos.
  8. I am an African male and I had a procedure with this Vories back in summer 2012. The result was also poor. I talked to a recommended Doctor from the west coast on here afterwards who has a great track record with African Americans and he explained to me how and why the neograft transects coarse African American hairs. Out my grafts, about 45% grew. On the bright side, the clinic did live up to their refund policy. I was at the 8 month mark when it became quite evident that my result was very unsatisfactory and wasn't going to dramatically change. I hate to be a bearer of bad news but looking at your photos it doesn't look promising going forward. If you're considering a second procedure, Dr Cooley whose also in North Carolina does great work with African American males and his prices are reasonable. Good luck bro!
  9. Nice work! This is the Doctor I should've chose prior to flying to North Carolina to attain my abysmal result.
  10. To be honest, more than likely you'll need another transplant.. 1200 grafts weren't enough. If the density increases it is more likely to help conceal the misdirected hairs. I experienced somewhat of the same thing with my first hair transplant. The grafts were placed at the wrong angle and are not in sync with the native hairs. It's less noticeable when I grow my native hair long and blend it in. On the bright side, you are in good hands with Dr Diep moving forward. I am sure he will find a resolution to your concerns. Good luck man!
  11. Thanks Mask, you're the man! That pricing is up my alley and if you're mentioned in the same breath as Dr Diep then you deserve a further look.
  12. Great thread gentleman. Nice to see ethnic hair in the spotlight. Hey Mask, when did you get that 6-9$ pricing from Dr Diep? I had a botched 1st surgery and wanted Dr Diep to do corrective surgery but the pricing was a bit too steep. I skyped with Dr Diep in June and told me I would need around 1300 grafts to fix my hairline which would be like $10 grand. I think I can get away with fewer grafts because my hair is rather thick. He is a great guy though and I plan on going to him when my funds are right.
  13. I must say, the nicest result for an African American male I've seen done with neograft. Didn't know this was possible. Love the linear frontal hairline. I would've reconsidered re-grafting if I knew you were capable of this type of work on African American men.
  14. I believe my bad result was a combination of several things, the neograft machine itself being one and the main contributor. My result was cosmetically compromised from the onset and the graphs were not aligned at 15 degree angle thus don't hug the skin as they should for an African American male nor was the hairline drawn with any precise measurements. A "skilled" experienced surgeon could've alleviated the outcome of my result in those aspects but overall the hair simply didn't grow which I believe is due to the neograft itself. A great carpenter is only as good as his tools are so I don't harp too much on the assistant's skill level who performed my surgery. The learning curve for this device is not steep which is why so many Tom, D*cks, Harry's and in my case Jane's are performing surgeries with neograft. It's not an all inclusive device and you won't find an African American male with a great result with Neograft. It's torture on our curly roots and destroys them. If it's just a niche device and people want to laud some select results then so be it but I'm not a proponent of neograft and neither are the surgeons I've consulted with.
