It is great news

Thank you for posting. On many websites there can be a bias towards mostly negative outcomes being posted. The majority of people using the "standard" treatments get results but often do not feel a reason to post up. Keep on going and I hope that your results continue to improve.

Not at all. The active ingredient is finasteride for both. Proscar is a brand name. If you were taking 1mg before, you will continue to take 1mg now.

I assume this is TRX2 which is getting heavily promoted. Here is my view from another thread: The main ingredients seem to be 800mg per day of carnitine with a few other amino acids and vitamins +minerals (from: Hair Loss Treatment - how to stop hair fall) On the bottom of their home page: * These statements have not been evaluated by the medicines regulatory agencies. This product is not a drug or medicine, and is therefore not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. This patent-pending food supplement contains nutrients that help promote and sustain healthy hair growth. Results may vary and are subject to your individual metabolism. Regarding risks and side-effects please see the package insert and ask your physician or healthcare specialist. Read Full Disclaimer From the disclaimer: *The herbs and patent herbal formulas listed in this website are what we offer as dietary food supplements. We do not make any claims to the effectiveness of the products contained in this site. You could put that statement on anything. Protein is necessary to "promote and sustain healthy hair growth" so I suppose you could include that same warning on tins of tuna! From a quick google search, the average person takes in 20 - 200mg of carnitine a day. To take large doses, you could take whey protein (that athletes use as a protein shake) as one small scoop provides 400mg. Overall, eating a decent diet is good for you in many respects. It will help your overall health. However, spending 60 pounds per month for vitamins supplements will not help you regrow hair. If you do want to try it, I would recommend following jlemons method - 70 pounds for 250 days supply rather than 60 pounds for 30 days!

I agree with Spex - if it ain't broke dont fix it! Even though there isnt a good deal of evidence supporting higher than 5% it might be worth considering to start back on 12%. If you applying twice a day then you could use the 12% once a day and 5% the other time. I have never been able to find strong research about the biological half life of minoxidil but a study using radioactively labelled minoxidil showed that after 24 hours only 2% of the applied dose was still present in the tissue. This may suggest that two doses of 5% would provide higher average tissue levels of minoxidil over 24 hours than once a day of 12%.... Food for thought!

Propecia Stopped Working after 6 months?
Dr Tom Walker replied to Arnz143's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
It will not have stopped working. Since13 is correct - just continue with the treatment. I would advise that you consider 5% minoxidil as well. It has a strong evidence base and would work well alongside the treatment. -

Hair shedding 6-7 months after beginning Minox.
Dr Tom Walker replied to Theodpliske8711's topic in Hair Loss Drugs
That is a good post linked above. Hair goes through periods of increased shedding and sometimes this can be brought on by illness (even a simple cold), poor diet, increased stress, and plenty of other reasons. Most commonly, there is no definite trigger. To echo the content of the linked post above, it is best to relax and allow the process to happen. Don't do anything radical - continue your treatment and within a month or two it will be a lot better. -
If you are getting headaches then try drinking more water. Some people find this helps vasodilator related headaches (minoxidil is a vasodilator)

Have a look at this paper: Comparing the therapeutic effects of finasteride gel and tablet in treatment of the androgenetic alopecia Hajheydari Z, Akbari J, Saeedi M, Shokoohi L - Indian J Dermatol Venereol Leprol

There is no strong evidence comparing this treatment to others. This study had a look at dosing but was carried out on mice: The biodisposition and hypertrichotic effects of bimatoprost in mouse skin - Woodward - 2013 - Experimental Dermatology - Wiley Online Library Interestingly it suggests that the dose 0.03% gives a similar tissue concentration after 8 - 24 hours as higher doses. In my opinion, I do not think that it will work better than minoxidil. It will be another mechanism of action to treat hair loss. If the evidence continues to support it, it may change "the big 3" into the "big 4".

If you take propecia does minoxidil make any difference?

Agree with sugarhigh: everyone should listen to their bodies feedback with treatments
