  1. In my book I don't think you have lost enough hair to make it sensible to have a HT. I mean, planting some FUE grafts inbetween native hairs would be wasteful if your hairloss pattern progresses. I think you should try taking finasteride for few months to see if you get any side affects. If not, then continue to take it and reevaluate in a year's time. In my view I'd only have hair transplanted into areas which are either bald, very thin or stablised through medication.
  2. Just thought I'd post to say I'm very pleased with this product. It has improved my hairline noticeably (dormant hairs resurrected and getting stronger as the weeks go by). The whole area is less see through than it used to be. I started using it 14 weeks ago (1 application at night only). I'll try to get a decent photo later if possible, although I don't think I have a good enough before photo to really see the difference. All in all, for anyone who hasn't, I recommend you try this product!
  3. I've been off it for 2 weeks and feel like a million dollars. It really did affect my mood more than anything. Despite it not working for me I still think people should give it a go. 3 months seems like a good amount of time to test for sides.
  4. I started on 1mg a day and tapered down to .25 every other day. Unfortunately, after 3.5 months I've called it a day with Fin. It didn't make much of a difference lowering the dose. It's said that sides will disappear with prolonged use but I don't recall anyone claiming this on this site or any other for that matter.
  5. Hi there, I've admitted defeat on finasteride this week having been on it for 3.5 months. I noticed lately I've been getting the dreaded 'brain fog' which has been mentioned in various articles. Having been off it for about 5 days now I feel better already. I don't regret trying the drug and would say to anyone it is worth a try, but for me the sides out do the benefits. Minox seems to work quite well for me so all is not lost. I'll continue to use the foam in combination with Nizoral. So I think my advice to you is to stop taking it.
  6. Hello mate, In your case I would say get on Regaine Foam for a year and see how that goes. (Amazon is the cheapest I've found - GBP43 for 3 tins compared to GBP70 in Boots). Propecia can be obtained through the 'Boots Hair retention programme'. I'd suggest signing up and getting a months supply. Try half a tablet every other day and see how it goes. By the way, try to get some Telfast fexofenadine 120mg tablets from your GP. They are much better than over the counter Hayfever tablets! In the US you don't need a prescription for them..
  7. I reckon 3,000 FUE with an approriate hairline blended into the crown. You could then wear your hair a bit longer and hide any dot scars depending how you heal from FUE. Agree with others that FUT probably isnt for you unless you have some crazy donor density.
  8. Any recommendations? I've bought 30 tablets at about GBP18. A bit pricey but what the hell, I though I'd give them a go...
  9. Your loss is quite similar to mine. I've been recommened anything between 2500-3500 grafts. If I were in NYC I'd also consider getting a flight to see Dr Konior in Chicago.
  10. Agreed. He's done more surgeries than you can shake a stick at so I'm sure he made these recommendations for good reasons. After all, he looked at this guy's head up close. None of us have.
  11. It's difficult to express an opinion on what Dr B recommended. for example, if you told him you want maximum coverage on the top and really don't want to have to shave your head close for the rest of your life then strip seems reasonable. If your donor is depleted by a bad FUE then he might only be able to get 1000 grafts FUE from the donor, compared to 3000 strip. So it would totally make sense to go FUT. The only thing I don't get is why he wants to use beard hair on the hairline.
  12. Couldn't agree more. I think the drugs have reversed a couple of years loss for me in the space of 3 months, hopefully there is more to come in the next 9 months. I used to get a bit of flakeness but Nizoral once every 5 days seems to eliminate most of it
  13. I wish I'd started taking it when I was 23 or 24. If you get any sides in the first couple of weeks then just stop taking it and you will return to normal. Some people can take some drugs without problems, other can't. For example, a relative of mine is allergic to Penicilin. It's the only effective way of dramatically reducing hairloss until some bright spark comes up with another soultion like hair cloning.
  14. Your hair looks quite like mine did at your age. I too had a bit of temple recession in the late teens. I started getting worst around 26yrs+ Propecia could be a good idea, even if it is 1mg a week. I'd give it a go to test for any side effects. What's your family history like?
  15. Most definately! It's probably the most powerful tool for preventing further hair loss or slowing it down considerably. If you get a HT and continue to lose more hair you will end up with a lump of hair with nothing surrounding it. This would look terrible for most people. The only exception is people with high norwood numbers who have more or less lost all the hair they were destined to lose.
  16. Type 'Dr De Reys Hair Transplant' in Google and it is the 1st, non-sponsored, link hopefully
  17. A big up for Nizoral too. I had a slightly flaky scalp which cleared up after a couple of weeks use
  18. Not yet. Thinking about it and giving myself 12 months on medication first.
  19. Looks like a great result. Funnily enough Dr Saifi is one of the 1st surgeons I found when I started researching HTs
  20. I use Boots own brand generic 'Nizoral' once every 5 days. It removed any flaxyness from the scalp which I'm sure is good for helping minoxidil absorption. Alpecin has done nothing for my hair loss but I continue to use it as it does the job as far as a shampoo goes.
  21. Most people only see themselves in 2 dimensions, i.e. looking in a mirror, that's why it can be a shock to some people when you see yourself in photos from other angles. You could grow your hair longer and have a messy style, e.g. David Beckham
  22. No worries. I don't apply it in the morning because it is a pain to get my hairstyle right and gave up after a couple of attempts. Also, I'd seen plenty of articles/advice given where 'once a day' had proven just as effective for a lot of people. The only reason I say 5 years is because I've heard Rogaine loses its effectiveness after this approximate time. However, I don't know this for sure. Rogaine is always stated as being effective on the crown area only. I read somewhere that this is only to do with the clinical trials and doesn't necessarily mean it wont work. I'll personal message you a couple of example Minoxidil cases where it really helped the hairline.
  23. Worth giving Rogaine a go as I've seen some positive results from it. It could give you another 5+ years with good hair. I generally use about 2 capfuls to cover most of the scalp, but I only apply it a night time. One can lasts about a month. The nozzel is useful for applying spots of foam onto the scalp through the hair. I never noticed a shedding phase (I'm about to start my 4th month on it).
  24. 3 months before and after. Before photo a little blurred and at a higher angle as i hadn't got the hang of the camera.
  25. Another month on. Hair is longer than previous photos (I will probably get it cut in a week's time), and I dyed it this morning.
