  1. Ethanjorg, To put it straight, You would loose your native hairs (not the transplanted hairs) if you stop taking Propecia. People who undergo HT are usually prescribed/advised to take Propecia or Finasteride to save their native hairs. Otherwise chances are that you might loose you native hairs and you would be chasing HTs entire life and also run out of donor. So it makes sense to take Finasteride post HT. rVenkat Note : All opinions are my own and my advice should not be considered as medical advice.
  2. Hi Merapas, Congrats on your recent HT. Finpecia basically contains Finasteride that is known to inhibit type II 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The studies reported only a small percentage of them experienced side effects and the side effects went away after discontinuing. So it is better to give it a try and see. May be you can even start with a small dosage of 0.5 mg initially and gradually increase the dosage to 1mg. rvenkat Note : All opinions are my own and my advice should not be considered as medical advice.
  3. Thehairupthere, Thanks for the advice. Will consult my doctor as you said. limit, Thanks for sharing your experience. My sides are not that severe but yes there is definitely a difference in pre and post finasteride experience. Will check with the doctor once and see how it goes.
  4. Hi Everyone, I am looking for some advice. I have been on Finasteride (Finax, 1mg everyday) since March,2011(around 8 months). After i started finax i noticed watery semen and reduced semen volume after 2-3 months . But still continued taking the tablet, thinking it would take sometime for my body to adjust and would return to normal with continued usage. But now even after 8 months i still have the above issues and sometimes cannot even get an erection. Coming to my Hair loss, the hairline is still receding slowly, though the no of hairs falling daily has reduced, i still see some miniaturized hairs falling say 5 to 10 hairs daily from all over the head. My question is should i still continue taking Finax 1mg daily for some more months and see whether things return to normal or should i play around taking 1 mg M-W-F and see whether things return to normal or should i completely stop taking Finasteride and go with Topical solutions ? Please help me with your suggestions. Thanks, venkat
  5. Hi Falc,

    Thanks for your reply.

I fall under Norwood 2/2A scale and i want to save my remaining hair.

Say if i take finasteride for rest of my life, will that have any serious impact.

I am already aware of the possible rare side effects of finasteride through this forum but i have not come across people who have been using it for a very long time say more than 20 years.

    Regards,

    Venkat

  6. rvenkat,

Welcome to our community and thanks for your comment on my profile.

Propecia should indeed reduce the amount of hair fall and even potentially thicken areas all over the scalp however, it's technically only clinically proven for the crown. Regrowth of truly miniaturized hair is rare, but it is one of the best medical defenses against future hair loss.

Feel free to ask any of your questions on our forum as well, share your experience and view and read others.

I look forward to seeing you on the forum.

    Best wishes,

  7. Hi Falc,

I have been actively reading this forum from few months and today I made up my mind to actively participate and therefore joined this wonderful forum.

I want to know whether taking Finasteride/propecia will control hairfall at all parts of the head like vertex, front and temples, or is it effective only on vertex. Because I read somewhere that it will not stop hairfall in the frontal and temples.

    Please clarify my confusion.

Also if possible can u provide u r email id.

    Best Regards,

    venkat
