  1. Hey guys, Thanksfor your posts. Here's what I found out from my doc: Losing the transplanted hair this long after surgery is not normal. He said that once the transplanted hair starts growing, it does not fall out. Yet, for me, there is considerably less density today than there was just a month ago. And even the slightest running of my fingers through my hair results in loss. One possible explanation is some medication I was prescribed about a month ago by my general physician. Though he (my general physician) said the medication is almost surely not causing the hairloss, I've stopped taking it anyway. I also started taking MSM again. I'm really hoping this stops the hairloss. Needless to say, I'm really getting freaked out. I really hope that all of this wasn't for nothing. I'll keep you posted.
  2. Thanks, qvarnis. It's hard for me to give an exact amount of hairloss. I can say that when I briefly run my fingers through my hair (over the sink, for example), I will look down and discover about 10-20 hairs that have fallen out. If memory serves me correctly, that is about the same amount that would fall out when I first realized I was losing my hair. I am definitely going to call my doc about this, but would like to hear insights from others.
  3. Hello, I had a translant about 5 months ago (4,621 grafts in all). I would estimate that I lost about 1/3 to half of the follicles in the first month after the surgery. Then the remaining hair started growing. All was going well and I was very impressed with the results. But in the past few weeks, I've noticed that the hair has been falling out. If I run my fingers through it, I've noticed that a significant amount will fall out. And I notice that my hair is definitely less dense now than it was just a month ago. Has anyone else lost a significant amount of transplanted follicles this long after my procedure? And if so, did they grow back? I am using proscar and monoxodyl daily. I don't want to freak out, but this doesn't seem right to me. Many thanks for any answers you can provide.

  7. Guys, I can't thank you enough. I did have a consultation with MHR. Two actually. One was about a year ago, and the second was a couple weeks back. Just a quick story about them... The reason I never followed up after the first visit was that the consultant was a total jerk -- let's call him "Steve." But then a year later, I decided I need to to something. I wear a hair system, and I want a permanent fix. So I went back, delighted to discover that "Steve" was no longer with MHR. Now I would be meeting with "Rick." Any hope I had that "Rick" would allay my concerns anymore than "Steve" were quickly dashed. "Rick", like "Steve" was arrogant, sleazy, and made me feel like HE was doing ME a favor by consulting with me. This may sound a tad immature, but both "Steve" and "Rick" reminded me of past-their-prime fratboys who head down to Florida every year to score on underage chicks during spring break. In short, my second consultation experience with MHR didn't allay my concerns, and that's why I posted my earlier question. I am going to meet the actual MHR doctor who would perform surgery on me this week. I'm going to ask him all the questions you guys suggested. And I'm going to demand to see and talk to two of his actual patients. If the doctor can't oblige, I'm not going to MHR. Incidentally, I live in the Washington, DC area but grew up in the Cleveland/Pittsburgh area. For starters, anyone know of good docs around any of those places? I'm 28, about a Norwood 5 with a good amount of thick donor hair. Sorry for the long post, but I figured some of you might enjoy the consultation experiences. And again, guys, thanks...
  8. I'm very close to going with a HT at MHR. Can someone on here tell me why I shouldn't go? This isn't an opportunity for people to call the doctors at MHR butchers. I'm looking for sound, objective reasoning on why it's a bad idea to go with them (or Bosley, or any other franchise operation). And if there are people on here who have had GOOD experiences with MHR, I'd like to hear about those too. Finally, if MHR really isn't the right choice, how might one find a good doctor in one's area? It seems people always recommend doing lots of research to find the "right" doctor....but what's the first step? Thanks.
