Hello,
While I researched all of the posts that I read over time, I never thought:
1. That I would have a GOOD surgery
2. That I would share my story
Now it is my time.
I had hair surgery in April of 1996 with a doctor that was no good. It left a wide, bumpy scar in the back and a frontal hairline that could have been done so much better. I was not a kid, but a man in his late 30's who jumped into this like a stupid teenager. The whole thing was a mistake and I felt like I had been ripped-off.
It came to the point where I got over the shock of it and decided in 2001 that I would interview surgeons in the midwest to do corrective work.
What I wanted was to make my frontal hairline perfect - not just improved. I also wanted to get rid of my noticeable donor scar. These were my goals and I wanted to find the right surgeon to do it.
After 11 consultations I eventually decided that a Dr. Shapiro in Minneapolis and Dr. KOnior in Chicago were probably the top guys to do what I wanted done. I chose Dr. Konior because of his plastic surgery background, because he was closer, and because I thought that he would do it right. He took his time with me and was patient through all of my questioning and scepticism. And I appreciated it. I saw a few of his patients, including someone who happened to be an acquaintence of mine. His work sold me on his ability.
It has been almost 10 months to the day since Dr. Konior did my transplants and the scar revision and I have my life back thanks to him. The scar in back is nearly impossible to see unless you go digging for it and my hairline looks soft and natural like it should have 7 years ago. I can wear my hair short again with my hat and I can swim again. You don't know what it feels like to go from being embarrassed and hiding your hairline to feeling good about yourself. It is like being set free from a cage. My experience with Dr. Konior was wonderful and I would tell anyone in the Midwest that he is exactly what I was looking for when I started researching this again. He is the best guy that I found and he got it right.
Peace,
Kilroy
