  1. I'm convinced there's a difference in the effectiveness of foam vs liquid for anyone who responds to minoxidil at all. Maybe it's in the delivery mechanism. I also had an endless supply of dandruff and itchy scalp while on the generic minox. It went away within a couple of weeks after switching to the foam.
  2. Here's my experience: I was using foam just a little over a year ago with great results. After a while I changed to the generic minoxidil for budget reasons. I started slowly losing what I gained. Six weeks ago I changed to the foam again and shed a lot almost immediately. Now I'm seeing signs of regrowth. I got a haircut yesterday and it looks fuller than my last haircut.
  3. For about 6 months straight, I've used the generic Minoxidil liquid and just changed to the foam 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, it caused immediate shedding and noticed how much thinner it made my hair look after two days. It's still thinner though I think the shedding may have subsided. Anyone else experience this? The one positive thing is the massive dandruff I had while using the liquid stopped. For months, flakes were everwhere when I'd comb and I tried Tea Trea Oil, Aloe Gel, Nizoral 1% and nothing would counter it. Now that I stopped using the liquid and started the foam, it's almost non-existant.
  4. Is there that much more of a difference in absorption between the two? I've been using the generic minox for months with ok results. A couple of nights ago, I switched to the foam my hair looks markedly thinner. Literally, friday night it looked thicker than it does now. This normal?

  6. I was going through a thin phase over the last few months. I wasn't sure if it had to do with the seasons or some other cause. I'm still shedding a lot but after a haircut, seems like the hair roots are beginning to look darker and seeing less scalp. Also, I've been using Finasteride for a couple of years and Minox twice a day since April of last year.

  8. I'm assuming your surgery was Dec 2, 2008 and not Feb 12, 2008? Otherwise your results should be apparant by now.
  9. I've been told that BHT can be good for adding a little underbrush among the trees.
  10. Ive noticed more shedding in the last couple of months when I wash my hair in the sink. The hairs in the sink don't look like miniaturized hairs either. Is there more active hairs in the telogen phase during certain times of the year than others? I thought the human hair cycles were more asynchronous than say dogs. I remember being in a similar situation this time of year last year.

  12. After a hair transplant with Dr Reed in La Jolla, CA two years ago and 4 months diligent use of Finasteride and Minoxidil, I finally felt like my hair has improved to the point that I don't need Toppik anymore! Just to give you a little backround, I spent the 5 years prior to my transplant using Toppik religiously everytime I was seen in public. Both Toppik and Couvre. While the stuff helps, you sort of become a slave to it once you start. So fast forward to the last couple of years, I eventually got a hair transplant and gradually used less of it as the results grew in but still wasn't ready to cast it out entirely. Also, I wasn't very consistent with the meds, Minox and Finasteride. However, I decided to change that for the last 4 months. Twice a day, every day. Now, it's thickened up so much, when I went to visit my mom last week after not seeing her in nearly a year, she asked if I had another transplant. I told her no. Anyway, I'm not sure if the magic combo works the same for everyone but its unmistakenly improved my hair a great deal.

  14. I was curious about bht at one point. I've only heard that it can be a good compliment to a strip or FUE but not a reliable substitute because of the difference in hair quality. It would be like adding underbrush to the trees but not making a replacement for the trees.... if that makes sence.
  15. I was also using the Rogaine foam but discontinued it's use because I noticed it having an adverse effect and some shedding, not to mention itchiness. The Proscar seems to be doing wonders by itself because when I stopped the Rogaine, my hair thickened up. I don't know if the regular Rogaine/Minox will have a different effect but I'm actually afraid to touch the stuff now. I was told that Finasteride continues to thicken up the hair up to two years and then beyong that it's maintanance. So far I'm just under one year and continue to see growth. I'm considering postponing my second transplant just because I think more growth could come from the medicine use.
