  1. Yep, sorry - I have been really bad about that. I'll have my son take some this week and I'll post them. Whoops/sorry. Regards, Mike
  2. Arabia, I cannot comment on your age or the impact of your family history. However, I went to Dr Cooley in January of this year and I very satisfied with his work. He and his staff (especially Ailene) are top notch and very professional. I suggest you contact him regarding your age and family concerns. Regards, Mike
  3. Mark H, I'm 47 and Dr. Cooley does highly recommend Propecia (1 mg tab every other day) to maintain what was already there. I did notice a drop in my drive but it only lasted a month or so and then it went back to "business as usual" since then. Regards, Mike
  4. Mark, Most reputable, experienced and well respected doctors have a fairly full schedule - I have seen a lot of positive press on Hasson so I would imagine same or next day consultation/HT is highly unlikely. When I went to Dr. Cooley, it was nearly three weeks in between the two based on his backlog of patients. However, it certainly would not hurt to ask Hasson's office in advance what options are available. Best of luck. Regards, Mike
  5. Lon, Personally, I had very little swelling and tightness. I rubbed on Neosporin several times every day which certainly helped. At nearly two weeks after your surgery, I would suggest you see the doctor based on your description of the problems you're having. Just one man's opinion and it's always better safe then sorry. Regards, Mike
  6. Hair, I felt no pain while it was being removed and I had a 3,200 strip removed. It actually felt a little weird - like Velcro being pulled apart. For me, nothing to dread at all; my photo album has a shot of it - be prepared, it's quite graphic. Regards, Mike
  7. ogph, I don't know if he does FUE; I did a quick Google search and came up with this site: http://www.hairlosshelp.com/hair_transplant_roadtrip/do..._Cooley_overview.cfm. It may contain info, you could also call his office and ask for Ailene - she's his assistant/head nurse/does consultations with potential patients. Regards, Mike
  8. M&M, I let the stylist know about the surgery so she would be gentle in the donor and recipient areas (approx. 4-5 weeks post op). The thing that got me was not taking into to account the shaving/cutting the doctor did in the donor area before the strip removal. While you couldn't see the scar, you could see a "line" that mirrored the scar as the newly cut hair and previously trimmed hair lengths did not match. The doctor's cut was shorter and my pre-haircut longer hair covered it up. The stylist wasn't the best (obviously) and I have since found someone else who is in tune with my needs and does an excellent job. Regards, Mike
  9. Young, I choose him because of all the positive things I read about him - not one post was a complaint. He and his staff lived up to my expectations; I had my HT done in January and I am already seeing quite a bit of growth. Another reason is his office is only 15 minutes away as I live in Charlotte. Dr. Cooley has a standard rate sheet pretty much as follows: 1,000 = $5,000 1,200 = $5,800 1,500 = $7,000 1,800 = $7,900 2,000 = $8,500 3,000(+) = "call for current pricing/try to negotiate" basically. Dr. Cooley and his staff are trusted, respected and damn good at their craft - in my opinion and many others on this forum. Do a search on the threads for his name, you'll get a lot of results and you'll gain some good insight on him. Regards, Mike
  10. MTLien44, I had ~3,200 (my first) with Dr. Cooley on 01/04/06. My scar is healing quite well and I'm actually seeing some growth (others have commented on it). The no growth thing is normal but the scar being so "red" may not be. I'm 47 and at my age, people don't heal so quickly, but I'm happy with the scar fading so far. I would suggest a follow up visit with HT surgeon or your regular doctor for the redness. Regards, Mike
  11. H.A. & Edward, HA - sounds like all is well and progressing as scheduled/expected. I risked a hair cut a week after suture removal. One thing I did not plan for, the area that Dr. Cooley shaved the hairs down near the donor strip popped out once the hair around it was cut. No scar show through but the shorter hairs were a "tell tale" sign to the "line" (can you say 2+2?). Max, Sorry I haven't called - I still have the number and will find the time! Sorry Regards, Mike (As in Pro not Pri - just teasing HA)
  12. Michael, I retained about 60% of them until approx. week three after the procedure. Now, the passengers bailing out at lightning speed. Best of luck. Regards, Mike
  13. A lot of my new hairs stayed with me even after my suture removal (approximately 60+ percent still there two weeks after the procedure which was on 1/4/06). However, they are jumping ship quite quickly now - as expected all along. Regards, Mike
  14. Michael, Sorry I missed you and Maximus last Saturday morning - I first saw the message after lunchtime on Saturday. I talked with Maximus on his ride home - great call. I would have to agree - I trust Dr. Cooley's advice as well! Great album and best of luck! Hair Apparent suggested in another post that a "Cooley Reunion" of sorts (after the growth comes in) for those of us who have been worked on by him over the past 1-6 weeks or so - I think it's a great idea. Regards, Mike
  15. HA, I truly believe Stacey did ask but I think he was already working on your donor area - certainly no time be meeting and greeting then! I was able to meet Nashville Kat during his procedure as it was late in the day and Dr. Cooley was more then halfway into the placements within the recipient area. On the day of your procedure, I was in there right around 8:00 AM - the beginning of the process as you well know. This past weekend, I spoke with Maximus as he was driving home the day after his procedure. It was a great call; we talked for nearly two hours relating transplant stories, general experiences and opinions overall. A "Cooley Reunion" of sorts would be a good thing! Regards, Mike
  16. baldcasanova, I hear you and I placed a few advisories as a result. I originally gave it a lot of thought before including that shot and I concluded that it was best to show the "reality" of it all. The sutures are out and the area feels/looks good. I'm even contemplating my hair cut this weekend - after I find someone who will treat my entire head as gently as a baby's behind! Regards, Mike
  17. HA, Sorry the timing didn't work out on the 18th, by the time I arrived to get my stitches out Dr. Cooley had already started with you. I asked Stacey about the possibility of meeting you but unfortunately it was a little too late. Stacey is blonde haired assistant (due in March I believe) who removed my sutures and did most of the clean up work a week earlier. Post some shots when you can; congrats on the return trip and best of luck! Regards, Mike
  18. Rottun, You did not mention who the two doctors are - have you seen commentary on their work in this forum? I am no expert but I do believe that grafts can be made up of 1-3 hairs each. Anymore then 3 and the natural look comes into question. There are a few estimators via the links on this site that will show you how many grafts you'll need to get the coverage you want. I personally have only seen quotes for the number of grafts not hairs. At least one link that I have seen and used also showed the number of hairs associated with the number of grafts. (Sorry - this is the only site I remember http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com. Personally, I just got ~3,200 grafts from Dr. Cooley for $10,000 - which I believe was an excellent deal based on his impressive skill set. The old adage of you get what you pay for really holds true here. It's a lifetime decision, choose wisely. Regards, Mike
  19. Troy, Cool - never thought of that - even though it's very obvious to me now Sorry for the rant. Regards, Mike
  20. Troy, Just a little confused/taken back by your use of term "shill". Here's what dictionary.com says (sorry - had to look it up): "One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle". I actually believe you meant to use it as a very positive term/mode. Everything I have ever posted on this site is real and legit. I asked Dr. Cooley to take the "raw" shot and he did - I was out like a light and thankful he did. How many "raw" shots have you've seen here or even taken by the doctor? I welcome anyone in the Charlotte area to meet me in person (I have made that statement previously). I met Nashville Kat mid procedure with Dr. Cooley and spoke with him regarding his procedure - which was his second. I will be meeting with Hair Apparent on the 18th when I go in for my suture removal. Even Robert is a satisfied Cooley patient. Sorry, but I'm on the defensive based on dictionary.com's meaning. Then again, words have different meanings for different people and sections of the country. I would like to think you interpreted the word "shill" in a different/positive fashion. Your closing sentence of my shots looking great suggest such is the case. If not, please let me know. Dr. Cooley is highly respected on this site and I would like to think all of my posts warrant the similar respect. I trust we're cool on this - right? Regards, Mike
  21. Just had my seven day clean up and all is well. I have been very fortunate itching wise and I have not had to use to use the spray in my "take away" bag. Just the spray bottle in the recipient area and antibiotic cream in the donor area. I don't believe I had any graft losses - no unusual pain, bleeding or "instantaneous" loss/fallout. Returning to work next Tuesday - thankfully, getting antsy sitting at home. Went out today several times with no hat - felt really good to do so. My 14 year old son has been taking my post op pictures and today he said "Dad - it looks a lot better/really good" before he snapped a few. You know kids; brutally honest so it felt good to hear that. Robert - I am still struggling to add my album to my posts automatically even after meticulously following your instructions - any insight/aid would be appreciated. Regards, Mike
  22. Hey B Spot, I look forward to your pictures. I appreciate and respect your "open wound" comment/opinion/view point but I felt no ill effects and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the healing process in the area to date. I had a female friend take a look and she was amazed how good it looked nine days later after viewing it post op and the "raw" shot. I'm very satisfied to date even with the natural fallout/thinning out. I look forward to the end product in summer/fall of 2006. Realistic expectations of partial coverage only - but hey, tons better then it was and thinking about procedure number two as well. Regards, Mike
  23. Troy, Nothing but respect for your decisions and actions; being a single parent (ex lives out of state as does all other family), I fully appreciate your influences and choices. Regards, Mike
  24. Michael, Driving the next day should be fine; driving the same day would be an issue. I'm a fairly big guy; most meds don't affect me like other people. That being said, I ended up taking all of my Valium the day of the procedure as directed by Dr. Cooley. As noted in previous posts, I dozed off several times during the process and I wasn't clear headed enough to drive that night - a friend drove me to and from. In fact, I don't remember a few things I did when I got home that night - sort of like when you have one too many drinks. The next day I felt fine/normal and I have been feeling pretty good ever since. Regards, Mike
  25. H.A., Will do, scheduled for 8 AM - right about when the Valium should be kicking in for you - ha ha. See you then; thanks for the invite and best of luck! Regards, Mike
