  1. I recently had a second hairtransplant 2 weeks ago. My last transplant was a year ago and I dont rember much about the first couple of months. My question is how long does it take for donor scar pain to go away. My donar scar hurts when I go to bed at night. I sleep on my back and sides. It also hurts when I apply vitamin e to it. I don't remeber this soreness with my last transplant.

  3. Hi, I understand your predicament. I'm an AA female with scarring alopecia. When I first started my transplant research, I emailed pictures and history to numerous doctors I found on this website. It took approximately 2-3 weeks to get replies. Some of the doctors, however, never did reply even after I contacted them through email several times. I know how frustrating this could be because you feel with your condition you don't fit the traditional male/female transplant profile. I had this same problem. I looked at numerous pictures on lots of websites and saw no one my race, my sex, with my condition and extent of hair loss being featured. I finally connected with Dr. Epstein, who did finally email me back and had two transplants. I wish you the best of luck. You might have to re-email (I had to) the doctors you are considering. The repsonse time seemed forever, it didn't matter if they were a coalition doctor or not.
  4. hi female seeking support, I know how you feel. I'm an AA female who was diagnosed with scarring alopecia during my teens. After years of going through this and reaching burned out stage of my alopecia, I had a hair transplant to the front of my head. The shock loss to the donor scar area took me for a loop. It started 3 months after my transplant. It seemed like everytime I combed my hair it was globs of hair. I cried all night one night thinking what had I done. I didn't have that much hair to begin with and I definitly didn't want to loose any more. I'm at month 5 and the shock loss has decreased. This will more than likely happen with you.
  5. Hi Donna, I can definitely feel your pain. I started balding in the middle of my head during my teens. I wore weaves to thicken the front of my hair to cover the middle when wearing various hairstyles. Wearing weaves took out the front of my hair to wear I was totally bald. Hairloss causes low self esteem in women and men but I beleive more so in a woman. Men can be bald but for a woman it is unacceptable in our standards. Believe my however, that you will find a man that that does not bother and who like the real you. It took awhile but I did.
  6. I had a hair transplant 3 months ago and already I have hair growing in. My problem, however, is that I seem to be shedding hair at the donor site. I had no hair loss the first 2 months but now at the the third month it seems like when I rub or comb my hair, there is lots of hair on hands or in the comb. I know it must be from shockloss because I've never had this degree of shedding before. Does shockloss occur this late in the transplant process? How can I stop the shedding?

  8. I'm approximately 3 weeks post transplant. A question I forgot to ask the doctor is, am I suppose to put rogaine on the donor scar or just the recipient area? I've read lots of post but noone specifies how they get the donor area to grow back.

  10. Hi, I had a procedure about 6 days ago and not want to condition wash my hair and apply my normal olive oil, lavender oil, castor oil and vitamin e to head. Any body that uses Vitamin E, how long did you wait before administering it? I was told to not use Rogaine for 10 dys but I don't know if the oils also apply to this rule.
  11. Hi everyone. Many of you may rememeber me from asking various questions on transplants. I finally took the plung and got the procedure done with Dr. E. After doing lots of research, reading everything I could fine on the web and various emails to different doctors, I decided upon him. I have to say that upon meeting him, he was great, straight forward and realistic. I have a long history of scarring alopecia which a lot of African Americans suffer with. He was one of the only doctors that gave me realistic expectations while at the same time trying to meet my needs. I read on various post that he was like this but was somewhat skeptical. My only interaction with him had been through emails and it's hard to get a feel for someone (however even then he was being realistic with me and not telling me something to get my money). Well getting to the point, I went to get the procedure done and everybody treated me EXCELLENT. They went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. This is a big compliment coming from someone who can find fault with everything . He called me that night however I was already asleep from the meds he had given me. I went to the office the next day to get my hair washed and for him to look at my graphs. Upon meeting with me he told me he fell short of delivering all the graphs that we had talked due to my poor density but was going to refund a portion of my money back. I was very surprise. He didn't have to tell me anything, I would have never known. He then stated that it was my choice but that he would like for my to come back in 8 to 12 months for a second procedure to finished the promised graphs and that he would only charge me the refund that he gave me. He stated for me to wait until my hair grew in to see if I still felt I needed the extra graphs. He was so understanding and made all my insecurities regarding my hair loss, tight scalp and poor density go away. I guess I will now do the waiting game and see how everything grows in. I would like to thank this website a lot because I learned so much from reading what you guys have went through. Wish me luck.

  13. Hi, I'm glad to hear about your sucessful surgery. I'm considering having a procedure done by Dr. Epstein and have been searching for females who have had the procedure done. If you don't mind me asking, how many grafts did you have? I'm trying to ascertain how many grafts females typically have.
  14. I'm an African American female who is looking to do a hair transplant. I've emailed back and forth to Dr. Epstein who recommends a test procedure. Has anyony ever done this? He stated that it was hard to predict how much growth I would get. It seems though that even with a test procedure, one could not tell how my transplant would take. I'm very confused. What does everyone else think? I've heard nothing but good things about his clinic, however, I've been having an extremely hard time reaching the main office to set up any type of procedure or ask questions. I'm at work during his office hours and email is best for me, but even when I called I didn't get much have. Does of you who have gotten the procedure done, how did you get through to make arraingments. I tend to be very supersitious and now am believing this is a bad omen that I should not get the procedure. LASTLY, my friend live in Milwaukee and would like a procedure also. Does anyone know if Dr. Shapiro perform transplant on African-American women? We looked on his site but there is no AA pictures nor any pictures of women.
