  1. This thread is a fascinating study into bias and assumptions. Some comments didn’t age well. Landed here from a search on “no shave” but this sidetrack was fascinating. Happy to be reminded to remain cool and calm when shocking events happen, and allow the facts to surface.
  2. Looking forward to your updates. I’m in the market for a no shave FUE also.
  3. TLDR? Can you provide a comment about Bernstein specifically?
  4. Following this. I was looking for surgeons in my area, and then eventually checked out NY and realized my first surgeon wasn’t listed on the map as a recommendation anymore. Came here to see if any responses will be posted.
  5. Just to elaborate further, I am not concerned with the cost of travel. I am thinking about the staples that I had removed after several weeks, and then the second set of staples removed. So it was more me thinking about access to the clinic (if I were to go FUT again) so they do that themselves and I can get checked by the actual doctor. Don’t know if the FUE requires follow ups.
  6. So what happens each night after wearing this product? Does it have to be washed off? Stains pillows?
  7. Hello everyone — doing some research on HTs and travel as I get ready to launch into my second procedure. For FUE, how many doctor visits did people make? Surgery day is obviously one day, but were there any pre-op or post-up visits? Wondering how to plan for travel and how far away from my local city (Washington DC) I should search for surgeons.
  8. Can a second FUE surgery also help diffuse the fist FUT scar? In other words, what happens to the scar from an initial FUT if a patient has a second FUE procedure?
  9. G - thanks for all the posts man. Sounds like staples and tons of pain meds is still the way to go. I have to figure out how I'll accommodate a 20+ day vacation, but it would be ideal to take this much time off from work -- never mind the hairstyle I'll have to adopt. Thanks again!
  10. Holy shit - three weeks is a long time. Did the surgeon recommend this? I hear you about the wider scar. I definitely have a pencil thin one now. Having thought the FUE vs FUT donor area dilemma, I definitely think the strip is still the best solution. Well, cloning would be the BEST OF ALL solutions, but that doesn't look like its happening anytime soon.
  11. I have a short cut in the occiput area, longer on top. I'd have to plan for a cut that is at least 2-3" I've mostly forgotten about the redness in the recipient site. I remember the crusts, etc. though. Ya - Dr.B recommended the staples. He took half of them out 10 days post-op. The rest came out 20 days post-op. I was doing scalp massages for a few weeks prior, so I think my laxity was good. If you had sutures before, was the closure trichophytic?
  12. When I had my first surgery I was working mostly from home, so time off wasn't a problem nor did I have to be in client-facing roles. Now that has changed, and I am very much Ina client facing role. One week vacation time might not be enough. But also recipient area redness is a concern. Additionally, trimming the hair in the back to create the donor strip, and the general discomfort related to all the staples are additional barriers.
  13. gillenator- wow man, 4 sessions sounds like you have a lot of experience. You very satisfied? Any lessons or insights? How'd you work out the time off from work? Are you an office type?
  14. David -- great responses, thanks so much. Ya, it's been 6yrs and I've been thinking about the 2nd one for a while. Shaving my head is not an option for work, so I'd have to figure out some creative options for strip. The map link you shared seems very useful. I'll drill down on that over the next couple of months.
  15. I've had a blog here before. Maybe it's still up. Not that important. Just looking for some insights from those who are active/have experience with the procedures. Thanks
  16. Hi All - been 6yrs since my first HT with Dr. Bernstein. 2400 grafts in a FUT surgery. I remember the massive pain those 20 staples caused me! But the results were and have been beautiful. I'm 40 this year. I've not been consistent with the finasteride. I gave up on rogaine after too many episodes of itchy, irritated scalp. My hairline is starting to thin and so is a bit of my frontal crown. I'd like to ask the experts: 1) how much hair can be harvested with FUE nowadays? 2) do you need much time to recover? What about returning to work? 3) if I do strip method again, my first two choices would be Bernstein or Feller -- but what about others like Lindsey in Virginia? (I've relocated to DC). 4) What about top FUE? So many more surgeons in NY now. Would prefer a quicker recovery - less time away from work on "vacation". 5) costs - what's fair market value these days? My 2400 with Dr. B cost me 13K in 2008. Have rates dropped? Thanks so much. 2015 is the year for HT2!
  17. Hello Guys, Can any of you post information about the cost of the procedure (especially those who go to consult with the surgeons). Also, what are the periods of time between treatments? This makes me think of botox -- multiple treatments over time, but no permanent results. (We won't know yet, I understand.) Thanks.
  18. wow. didn't know about propeciahelp. can someone point to the link where the long-term, post propecia effects are discussed. like, what blood work are you talking about xxy?
  19. I think it helps to discuss what the side-effects are because we all are susceptible to different conditions. I, for one, attest to experiencing side-effects in my ejaculate. To be honest, prior to taking finasteride/propecia, I had much more volume and intensity. But after a few years on this medication, the volume and intensity have diminished. I still feel great orgasms, but the resulting ejaculate is much reduced then when I was in my 20s. Now in my mid-30s, I strongly suspect the prostate anti-inflammatory properties of finasteride have worked to change/downgrade the amount and intensity of my ejaculations and no amount of varying the dosage has really changed this. I look forward to advances in cloning and other means to produce lots of grafts. I would then have my second HT and wean myself off the meds altogether. For now, I can live with the output I yield and do not have any other major side-effects from the medications. (perhaps just a little dry scalp from the rogaine which i have taken care of my using lots of herbal/natural conditioners).
  20. Totally Marko! That's hilarious. PJT: I found the aloe vera gel helped moisturise my scalp after all the shampooing and all the scabs, and it brought down the redness and itching. I also used a tube of mederma, but didn't really notice whether the pink really subsided that much from the donor scar. I am also using rogaine foam, and this has been awesome (in combination with the finasteride split pills). Now that I am wearing my hair longer, I plan to switch out of the foam and use a liquid rogaine. I started using the aloe and mederma the first week after surgery, and I got on the rogaine by week 5, I think. The point is, as soon as you go through that initial scab shedding, bring on your arsenal of growth support. Whether you experiment with other stuff, or just try the stuff I mentioned above, I think it will make YOU FEEL BETTER trying out stuff rather than just riding the doldrums alone and aware of the time passing. Happy Growin!
  21. RK -- First: Congrats man! I know the feeling. Now, questions: how long did you have your staples in? do you know how many staples you had? who removed these? Also, you state that you have had 3200 grafts, but can you also share what the hair count was? And last, you give your hair count breakdown in percentages. But do you have the actual numbers to share? I ask these details because I am post HT myself, but am interested in the way the numbers break down as much as the pictures that represent those numbers. thanks M8.
  22. T -- hey man, congratulations. So nice to hear a great story every once in a while, and yours is all the better because it is a true story I can identify with. Someday I will consider my second HT, and been collecting material on Dr. Feller because he seems to be the most awesome of the coalition surgeons here in New York, where I live. My first HT was with Dr. Bernstein, and he taught me a lot. But I have debated whether I might want to try a different surgeon for a future procedure or comeback to Bernstein. Stories like yours nudge me to consider Dr. Feller for my future work. Thanks man, and happy growin' aH
  23. It's cool to catch that UK vibe you fellas are sharing. I remember being really excited as well right after my first HT with Dr. Bernstein in late Feb. of this year. I am happy this is the 4th month, and only now am I starting to appreciate any new growth. Good luck recovering and happy growin! Best to ya, M8TS.
