  1. Thanks Bill. My wife actually applied some eyeliner cream to the scar area and it covered it up very well. First day at the new job today. Was pretty self conscious but made it through... If anyone else has any tips/tricks of products bought at local stores, let me know. thanks again...
  2. Has anyone used anything like Couvre that can be found in a store? I would like to experiment with it this weekend before work on Monday and don't have time to order over the Internet. I have been using dermmatch and toppik but not 100% satisfied yet. I need something to put on the scar to help conceal it better. I have dark brown hair. If anyone hears of anything that can be found in WalMart, Target, Walgrees, etc that would be great!! Thanks in advance...
  3. well I am probably going to consider shaving it. I have to go back to work on Monday and I am really nervous. Has anyone ever applied Dermatch to the recipient area? I am wondering if applying it lightly would help.
  4. Hey everyone, Really need your help. I am 3 weeks post op and had my recipient area shaved. I am definitely looking like an ugly duckling and wearing a hat constantly. I am fortunate that I was able to take off enough time for this as I wanted to be super-confidential. Problem is I am returning to work next week an although I have hairs on top of my head in the recipient area, they are so sparse, short and thin that from just a few feet it looks more bald than anything. Plus the hair around my head is getting longer to conceal the donor scar which makes the top even more apparent/noticeable. I have been trying to find all of the posts on concealing a HT and just wondering if Nanogen or Toppik might be a good option to try or if anyone has any other tricks up their sleeve. Dermatch works great on the scar but I need a little bit of coverage on top (not a lot but just engough to make it look thinning not bald). Any ideas? I am sure there are posts I have not found but any help would be much appreciated. I am kind of freaking out. Is Toppik safe 3 weeks post op?

  6. thanks guys, I am not ready to tie socks to my hands but darn close! I am just afraid I would scratch and rip some grafts out on accident. I am at day 5 today and looking foward to start massaging my head tomorrow morning. everything is very dry and the hair feels/sounds very brittle. Tony, congrats on Day 2! and...Good Luck with 4 kids! Wow, you will have your hands full. My wife has been so terrific but she is 8 months pregnant so we are both struggling to keep up this week with a 2 year old that likes to wear a superman cape and climb the walls 24x7! Stay in touch on your recovery. We can compare notes. Does anyone know of a day-by-day journal to follow on the healing/post op process? Not a surgical one but just personal experiences on what each day/week was like. If anyone does, let me know. I am obsessed with looking at my head now!
  7. Bill, thanks so much. I will check out the weblog. Thanks for all the hardword you put into this website. It is a tremendous resource!
  8. thanks so much. I appreciate your input and will touch base with the Dr. on Monday. I think everything is fine I am just starting to get antsy after laying low the past few days. Plus I have a 2 year old son that doesn't really like dad resting for too long ;-) Thanks again.
  9. Hi, I am on my fourth day post op from Dr. Ron Shapiro. I just finished the Graftcyte solution yesterday that came with my post op care regimen. Today my scalp is feeling dry, tingly, and itchy where the grafts are. Sometimes it even feels like it is pulsating. Is this just normal healing? There are times I have caught myself getting ready to scratch my head. I am paranoid I am going to mess something up. I am literally walking around on eggshells right now. How much activity is too much activity? Any advice or direction to other postings would be helpful. I haven't been sleeping well as I am nervous I am going to scratch my head in my sleep or that I am going to sleep wrong and affect the donor scar. Paranoid? Yes definitely so.

  11. Tweek2X - get in contact with The Shapiro Medical Group in Minneapolis. Talk to Matt Zupan. I had the same problem for years being told similar alternative treatments. You can do an online consult, send them the pictures and they will walk you through your options. It would be a great second opinion for you and if they confirm you are not a candidate, then good for you as they will tell you alternative methods that will ultimately save you $$ on a HT. By the way, I just had my first HT completed by them this past week.
  12. Just had my first HT on Tuesday with Dr. Ron Shapiro in Minneapolis. 2800 grafts to the top front. Still can't believe I did it. I have been talking about it for 10 years and finally pulled the trigger. So far so good. Can't say enough great things about the clinic, their knowledge, the process, their bedside manner/care, etc. Now it's the waiting game I guess.
