MSM

I hope that the moderators let this ride... First I would like to let everyone know that I am not in sales nor do I represent any company that manufactures MSM or any oher supplement.

I have been reading several of the posts over the past several months and have noticed that some of the people here are takeing MSM to for the purpose of keeping their hair in the growth phase longer. I have never been a big user of supplements because there has been limited if any research done to prove the claims. That being said I stopped buy a local healthfood store to see if that carried MSM (they did and I purchased a bottle of 120 caps) Bluebonnett is the lable on the bottle and the cost was around $26 for 120 1000mg vcaps.

I went home and started by takeing 1000mg in the am and 1000mg in the pm, I added the PM dose to the AM because it kept me awake. I have not noticed any difference in my hair but since obtaining a baseline for this is subjective it is really difficult to measure the results. If anyone has any suggestions I would be interested to read them.

I have one ruptured disk and one that is buldging and pressing on the S-1 nerve root at L4 and L5. Just to give you a little necessary history. for the past several years I have been in a moderate amount of pain each day is I had to place it on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worse I would have to say that prior to MSM I was at a 7 to 8 and after two weeks of 2000mgs of MSM in the morning I can now say that my pain level has reduced to a 2 to 3. Also, I do not take Lortab or any other narcotic, I have never recieved any benefit from them. They just make me nausiated and I am still in pain.

I know that they add this to the Glucosamine Condritin fo Joint pain, however I never knew it had this much anti-inflamatory properties. I just wanted to let people know that I have recieved real benefits from this product even though I can not claim to have any benefit for my hair.

Also, I looked online to find MSM cheaper and as you might guess I did find it cheaper in more ways than one. I bought two bottles of MSM 1500mg tablets and started to take them. I noticed rapidly that the results were not the same. My pain quickly went back to the higher levels and my energy levels went down. Oh yes, I did forget to mention earlier that my energy levels increased.

I wondered what the difference was so I did a little more research and found that the brand that works for me is actually OPTIMSM that has a patended distilling process. Why the cheaper version does not work or what the real difference is I do not know but I do know that this form of MSM is nothing short of miraculous.

Thanks to this forum because If I did not read about it here I would never have tried it... By the way I have found a source online for around $16 for the Bluebonnett OPTIMSM.

Falcon,

Interesting findings! I've never really heard anyone discuss the anti-inflammatory properties of MSM. However, many hair loss medications either serve or were initially intended for a different purpose. For example, minoxidil was initially tested as a blood pressure lowering agent in men, and finasteride is still used as an effective agent in men with benign prostate hyperplasia!

Good luck with everything!
