2016-04-24 Three Years after

This is a place holder. I'll take pictures and write a little something about it, but not a lot has changed I don't think since previous year.

2014-06-25 Bleached & Haircut @ 15 months

Today I bleached my hair back for the summer as the whole dark hair and beard thing was starting to bug me. I missed the old me! Plus I wanted to try an experiment to see if the blonde hair would have less contrast to my scalp and therefore let me gel & spike it up like I used to do pre HT. First the "bad news" ... When I went for the haircut, I decided to go back to a #2 guard on the clipper as I used to do before my transplant. As you can see it makes the scar show! UGH! I should have st

2014-04-25 Twelve Months After

This is the one year mark. I don't see a lot of difference from the past few months, but maybe you do? Before I say anything further, I want to say that for the most part I am happy with the results. I'm certainly in a better place folically than I was a year ago and the fear of going bald is no longer something I stress about. Perhaps I should just be grateful that this proceedure even exists and more importantly that I was lucky enough to have gotten a great HT that looks natural. If HT wasn

2014-03-26 Eleven Months After

Same ol' same old... not seeing much new changes, but maybe it's sublte and after 11 months I'm just having a hard time seeing the forrest through the trees (or insert some other cliche' here). Oddly my head seems to itch quite a bit these days. I'm hopeful that is still hairs poking through, but it's almost impossible to really tell at this stage. NEXT BLOG PREVIOUS BLOG

2014-01-28 Nine Months After

I guess this is about as good as it's going to get I suppose. I probably won't post again till the one year mark just for consistency and closure. But at this point it seems I'll either need to be okay with wearing my hair un-gelled or spikey like I have done for the past 18+ years, or I'll need to get an additional HT to fill it all in. This gives me some mixed emotions. I'm a little let down in some ways and really impressed in others. I love my hairline. I get compliments all the time and mos

2013-12-30 Eight Months After

Not much to report. I feel like it looks pretty much like it did last month. I did go in to see Mike Ferko and he tended to agree it seemed a bit thinner than expected but we agreed to just see what happens over the next few months and if I'm still not thrilled with it then we'll talk to Dr. Hasson and go from there. The massive "shock loss" that I was having has subsided, so maybe it will fill in the density now. While these photos don't do it justice, I am really happy with the hair-line and

2013-11-25 Seven Months After

Not a whole lot has changed since last month -- at least not to my eye. I am really liking my hairline though the more I see it. Again, I wish it were a bit denser, but it's still very nice to have it (and not the receeding hairline of 7 months ago). As mentioned previously, when it's dry it looks pretty decent -- decent enough I've even added a full face/head photo in this blog. And if you're gonna go, you might as well go big or go home, so I even sprouted some facial hair for the whole "Movem

2013-11-13 Six and A Half Months After (haircut)

I got tired of doing the comb-forward and I was also tired of wearing my hair brushed back like a guido, plus it was getting so bushy. Not to mention those damn waves were really bugging the shit out of me. So I got a wild hair (pun intended) and decided to go get my 2nd haircut since the HT. This time I went a bit more radical and told the girl to go shorter (with the intent of spiking it using gel like I used to do) and using some thinning sheers on the back to try and match the density a litt

2013-10-24 Six Months After

Well this is the magic six month mark. The day I planned way back in April 24th when I got this done. Two days before my 44th birthday (October 26th) -- this was my birthday gift to myself. The day I was told I'd really see the effects... I have to say I am a little dissapointed. I have this feeling in my gut that I'm looking at about all the density I'm going to see for the most part and honestly I'm not loving it. If my hair is dry, then it certainly does look fuller -- but that's not how I

2013-09-24 Five Months After

Comparing today's pictures to a month ago, there is some definite changes. It's interesting because as you're going through it day by day, you don't really notice it as much. In my mind's eye, my head looks like it did a month ago, but now looking at the present with the past there side by side it's very clear. My head looks "thin" and you can see through it to my scalp. I still don't understand how there will be more density as it seems like I should be seeing little hairs growing in between

2013-08-24 Four Months After

Well, at the four month mark here, for sure it's easy to see changes and growth. I'm a little bit confused as to why the right side is denser than the left one?! I'm also hoping that more hairs will be sprouting still and what I see isn't all that I'm going to get. It seems strange to me that there could be a significant amount of hairs that haven't shown their little faces yet though after 4 months -- then again I was told it can take up to 6 months to see growth. In this case that is and isn't

2013-07-24 Three Months After (and then some)

Slowly but surely I am seeing results. I think I'm a bit ahead of schedule actually. I was told it would take 3-5 months to START seeing hair growth, but I definately have hair in places I didn't ever have it before. This kind of confuses me, but hey, I'll take it! You can definitely tell if you look at my pre-HT pics and compare them to the current ones. The receeding part and and the opposite side of my "tuft" are sprouting. I feel that the "tuft" isn't as dense as it was before though, which

Most of the feeling in my head has returned. The back isn't really numb anymore, although it does have a "sensation" that I can only describe as "tightness" when laying it against my car's headrest, or couch, or even on a pillow in bed. It's not tight though as there is plenty of laxity. It's just kind of that feeling -- but only when pressed against something. The top part seems to itch a little bit every once in a while. I'm assuming that means things are percolating under the skin and it's a

2013-05-25 One Month After

Not a whole lot to report really. The scar gets smaller every day and is harder and harder to see which is great. The transplanted hairs keep falling out (as expected). For a while there they seemed to be falling out pretty quickly but have slowed down again I think. I would have expected more of them to be gone by now, and in fact I kind of look forward to them being gone because my hair is in kind of a limbo jenky-state. I'm hesitant to show anyone this state because I DON'T want them to think

2013-05-08 Staples Out

I was pretty apprehensive about, and quite honestly dreading this date since day one. I had heard that the staples were uncomfortable, and make no mistake, they are, but what I also heard was the pain in removal. I'm not going to sugar coat it, they are every bit as painful as I imagined... Let me back up a moment. I was told by the technician after my surgery to sandbag one of the Percocets and take it 30 minutes before the removal. I was also told to soak my head in warm/hot water to soften

Tips & Tricks

This is a random collection of tips and tricks I bequeath unto you... PAIN MANAGEMENT When you get to Vancouver, go to any drug store pharmacy and purchase a bottle of "222". It's over-the-counter, literally. You have to ask the pharmacist for it, but you do not need a prescription. This has ASA, caffeine and most importantly, codeine in it. H&W are only going to give you like 10 Tylenol-3. The main difference is 8mg vs 30mg of "the good stuff". Buy the 100 pill bottle as that is the ma

2013-04-27 The days after...

THURSDAY - The Shampoo I went in for my first shampoo / washing after checking out of the hotel and before driving back home to Seattle. The girl washing my hair said that it was looking really good and I jokingly said, "I bet you say that to all the boys". She assured me that she did not and that made me feel good about the process -- whether she meant it or not. I also saw Dr. Hasson again and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Oh that looks good! That density is great!" ... so agai

2013-04-24 The Procedure

Now it's on like Donkey Kong. No turning back at this point... You lay face down in what looks like a massage table with the hole for your face. They cover you with surgical cloths and I quipped that I wonder if this is how an aligator (or other wild animal) feels when you see them cover their eyes with a towel to calm them. It actually did have a calming effect -- or maybe the valium had started working by now. Hasson gives you about 10 or so injections from the center of the back of your h

2013-04-24 Hasson & Wong Office

I had heard from many people that the office is very nice, and they were right. It is modern and clean. The staff are super friendly and very professional. When I first arrived, I was given about 5 pages of papers to read and checkbox and sign. Standard stuff really. Allergies, waivers, payment, etc. Then a nurse gave me a HUGE button up shirt to change into and then took my blood pressure and gave me a few pills to swallow. An anti-biotic and I don't even remember what the others were. She

2013-04-23 The Arrival

Since I live in Seattle, WA, I drove up on Tuesday evening after work. It's about 130 miles and takes roughly 3 hours. Despite handing the border monkey THREE forms of ID in my Passport booklet, WA driver's license & USA/Canada Passport Card AND the letter that H&W sends you, the guy was still sweating me! I hate customs. It's so stupid. So pointless. Anyways, once that nonsense was over I arrived at the hotel around 9pm. If you have 2000 or more grafts, Hasson & Wong will pu

I love it when a plan comes together

My first post to this Hair Restoration Network was here back on March 16th, 2013: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/showthread.php?p=2339923   After the replies there I decided to schedule apointments with Hasson & Wong (VAN) and also Gabel (PDX) who both came highly recommended. I contacted Mike Ferko who is the liason for H&W here in Seattle, WA and he told me to meet him at the downtown office on Saturday the 23rd. This was a special trip for him and outside the normal w
