My hair started thinning in my early 30's, but didn't become too noticable until I hit about 35. from that point I was so family/career focused that, even though I hated losing my hair, I was able to tell myself that I had far more important issues to deal with. I did keep up using 5% minoxidol, off and on, during that time which maintained enough hair on the crown for a comb-over, however most of the front hairline and mid-scalp continued to fall out.
At the age of 47 my last daughter graduated and, being an empty nester, I took a good look at myself and realized how much of a toll the past 20 years of non-stop working and devotion to everyone in my family but myself had taken on me. I looked and felt about 80 years old.
About 2 months ago I started looking into hair transplant surgery and was impressed at how much the technology had advance with FUT and how natural a good surgical procedure looked. So, had a consult with 2 Dr's in the northeast Ohio area. On the of those Dr's was Robert Haber. I was immendiately impressed with his medical training, experience with the FUT procedure, and his candor regarding what he'd be able to accomplish. Even though he was quite a bit more expensive than some of the other Dr's that perfrom the surgery I was, quite frankly, terrified to put myself in the hands of anybody I did not think was one of the best as I think you only get one shot to do this procedure correctly. Once I decided to go with Dr Haber we had a lengthy discussion of what our goals would be for the surgery. I told him that my primary goal was to re-establish my fron hair line as I believe that aesthetically this give you the "biggest bang for your buck". Besides, at almost 50 years old a bald/thinnig spot on my crown really doesn't bother me too much. Dr Haber agreed and said should be able to get about 3,000 grafts in one session which would allow him to re-establish the front hair lne and fill in from there to the mid scalp with pretty good density.
Well had the procedure yesterday (9/13/12). Dr. Haber and his staff were great and I'm looking forward to seeing the results down the raod
