Default Dry scalp post HT?

Hey guys,

Im two weeks post surgery, and having my stitches out tomorrow morning. All seems well, I have been following Dr Rahals instructions to the letter. One thing that I wanted to ask you guys who have been here before, is that my scalp seems very dry. Im not talking about the donor or receipient area, but In my crown, toward my donor. My skin is very dry and flaky, which are not my normal scalp conditions. I understand that my scalp has been through a lot and this could easily be a side effect.
Any feedback or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hasson/Wong suggested patients use Vitamin E oil post op...so I purchased several small bottles of Vitamin E oil and applied it liberally to my entire scalp 2-3 nights a week from week two through week eight. It really made my scalp feel good and cut down on itching. My own unscientific theory is it also cut down on shock-loss. Yes it is a bit of a mess, but well worth it and I would shower it out before bed. Normally I would apply it about 7PM after getting home from work. Let it sit for an hour or two using a towel laid across the top of my recliner. I am still doing it about once every ten days.

Thats very interesting. Dr Rahal recommends using Vitamin E on the recipient area only, imm post HT up until 7 days post HT. Then to discontinue its usage. Its interesting to see how different Doctors recommend such different regimens. Im looking forward to getting my stitches out tomorrow, and then I can get a gentle shower with baby shampoo. Hopefully that may start to help with my dry scalp. In the mean time, I may get in touch with Dr Rahal and ask about the vitamin E oil all over my scalp a couple times a week.

Raphael...I don't have the Hasson/Wong post-op instructions right in front of me because I'm at work....but Hasson/Wong may have not stated to "cover my entire scalp"....But I did because it just seemed like such a mess why not cover the entire scalp. I am not a doctor, but how could it be good for some parts of a scalp and not others? It really helped with my itching and my scalp seemed much less dry and healthy even after I washed out the oil.
