I have what sounds like a very similar problem. I have developed a bald patch behind my left ear about 3 inch diameter. It started as a very small area about the size of a pencil eraser about 10 years ago. I only noticed it when I went to get a buzzcut. Over time, I started noticing thinning in an area about size of a quarter. This made getting a tapered back haircut difficult as the thinning area was becoming more noticeable. My barber tried to make the area less noticeable by trimming the hair longer in that area and this worked for awhile. Still, It appeared to be getting worse.
Over time, the area expanded to what is now about 3inches and is mostly bald there. I think I have Alopcia Aerota.
I've managed to conceal that area pretty well simply by wearing my hair longer. However, within the last few years, I started noticing thinning on the front left side where I would part my hair. Also, an area on the right front side too has become a little thinned too. The very front top is thinning lightly. Needless to say, this has been a challenge. If I wear my hair long and use concealers, it has looked pretty good. I've experimented with Toppik, Dermmatch and Loreal Shadow Eyebrow pencils. The eyebrow pencil hsa actually worked pretty well, and is far less expensive than Dermmatch.
I recently discovered that Toppik works pretty well with pomade, so I can get the look I like best - a pomp. The trick is to apply the Eyebrowe pencil first, then the pomade, they comb, then apply Toppik & recomb as needed.
I'm still experimenting with technique and products. If the hairloss becomes too great, I think I'll go with a wig. I consdered buzzing it, but that would be problematic - the bald spots would be noticeable compared to the stubble areas. Shaving it is another option, but I would have to commit to shaving it frequently or the bald spots vs stubble parts would show. So, if my current methods unltimately fail to conceal the hairloss adequately, I think going with a wig is my best solution. Hopefully, that will not come for awhile.
Good luck to you. I know this can be depressing and quite frustrating.

I have notcied after washing, my hair around the back is a little itchy with Nizoral in particular. Has anyone been having these effects? and does anyone have any tips to get the hair back on the sides and back.
Thanx
