Man, that sucks big time.
I have never had smp but I do not feel like it would allow you to cut your hir much shorter. I do think ther is a possibility that it would improve your scar at your current length. Do you know the reason your scar is that wide?

Spanker,
I also think that there is a possibillity that SMP would improve the scar.. I am afraid if I go with a scar revision that it may stretch.. So that being said I would go with the SMP.. There are too many risks cutting more skin from the back of the head.. The scar is this wide due too the fact that I had 2500 grafts taken from the donor area. Everyone heals differently.. My scar is wider than I'd like.. I really am limited to hair styles. It just is a bummer.. When you have to be careful every time you cut your hair and tell your stylist or barber it kinda gets old.. Sometimes I just wish I shaved down and never had a transplant.. |

Has smg offered a scar revision? Are you completely done with HTs?

I did discuss a scar revision with them-but I am thinking that the tattooing at this point would probbally be the best option.. I just don't want the back of my head cut open again unless down the road I need more donor hair due to more native hair loss. Everytime you take more skin or scar tissue your head just gets tighter and tighter.. Plus the healing time sucks.

The company is called BeautyMedical s.r.l. You can google it. I recommend using google translate unless you can read Italian. On their site it says that the optical effect could begin to decline from the sixth to eighth months post treatment thus requiring a touch-up. After two years without a touch-up, not a trace will remain.

formertrackstar,
I'd have to say that your scar is not great but it not hopelessly bad either. Of course, it's very revealing with your short hair style and with 3 surgeries it's going to be wider than most. I actually think my scar is a little wider than yours and I am planning on getting a revision in the coming year or so. Here are your options: 1) Longer hair styles. Don't go use clippers to cut your hair - go to a stylist. Preferably the same one regularly so you don't have to keep explaining yourself. 2) Start doing scalp exercises religiously to loosen up a donor area in preparation for a scar revision. I would consider this option if I were you. 3) FUE to camouflage the scar. Yield might be a little lower due to the scar tissue. 4) Tattoo the scar. Still too many unknowns for me personally (color, fading, smudging, touch-ups, etc.). I would talk with Janna, Zup, and Dr. Ron about these options. SMG has had a few patients get the inking done so it's not completely out of the picture for you. Just be careful. You don't want to bring about a whole new set of issues while trying to resolve another one. |

True, healing time sucks and I sympathize with the lack of enthusiasm for getting cut open again. However, if you want to possibly obtain more grafts with future transplants via strip then you may need to get this scar revised first. Definitely get in touch with SMG - they'll help you out.
