Hi
I've been a long-time lurker on this forum, happy to be posting, I'm looking for feedback and comments. A picture of my hairline is on my photo album. My pre-op state Backstory: 46 years old male, I've had a receding hairline since I was about 22 - so it's been very gradual over the years. There has been no speed-up in the rate of hair loss, it may have slowed down a bit. I'm physically fit and in good health, happily married, and run a business which is doing well. Propecia - I can't take it. I suffered from prostate pain and other unpleasant side effects including some sexual. Reducing the dose to 1 mg every other day still didn't work. Regaine/Rogaine - This is quite effective for me. I have booked a consultation with Dr Devroye based on what I've read here. I will post my progress as I go forwards. So far Dr Devroye's staff have handled me very professionally. What I want: The thinning at the crown to be dealt with, and a lower hairline. I don't expect at all to go back to a full head of hair, or anything close. Questions. 1. How good a hair transplant candidate am I in your opinion? 2. I'd like to consult just one additional physician - but who? I've ruled out Farjo. I live in the UK close to a regional airport and have good access to Western Europe, the New York Metropolitan area and some cities in Canada east of and including Toronto. For physicians in North America I really would want to have an online consult, then just go out for a face-top-face consultation hopefully followed by a HT a few days later (based on the outcome of the consultation obviously). I have contacted Dr. Bijan Feriduni but have not received a response or acknowledgement. Last edited by Modenese; 02-04-2012 at 09:04 AM. Reason: Typos! |

I would like to see a picture of your donor area but you appear to be an ideal candidate..

I agree, a shot of the donor and crown would help. I would say you need to blast the frontal area with at least 3k grafts. You might want to hit the remaining forelock with some grafts too as that could recede. I wouldn't suggest going too much lower with your hairline (I'd say the existing forelock is low as you should go). You want a nice, dense hairline, and enough grafts to cover beyond that. The crown/vertex could probably take another 1-1500k if you can get it (depends on donor). So I would say a megasession of 4-5k would help you meet your goals.
In New York I am partial to Dr. Feller (I have had 4 surgeries with him). He does awesome work. In Canada H&W and Rahal are tops. Farjo has been showing some really nice work, too. I would say just keep researching and go with whichever doctor matches your needs best. Good luck!

Based on your pic and your age, I really don't see a reason not to expect a good result. Full head? Maybe not, but you could have a nice head of hair. I would not spend a ton of grafts on the crown but you are not in terrible shape for your age and not being on meds. If you are wanting a big session I would consider rahal, based on the locations you have given. He has done quite a few big sessions lately that have been on the board. Given the cities you mentioned I think he will be hard to beat.

Thanks for all the replies, for the encouragement, and for the doctor lists.
As requested, I've added a picture of the crown to my profile. Crown pic To answer the questions that have come up: - Donor hair area is nice and thick, with dense hair. - Considering strip, as the scar doesn't bother me and I have good hair there. Thanks for the help, I'll be following-up with the Doctors mentioned. |
