What I love about spex is the rationality of his posts.

He could come on here and say look at me arent I great with all my hair but he does everything to help others not just advice in the HT field.

Even though he has now got his hair back he realises where hair is on the scale, its not the most essential thing in life, you need perspective.

That spex post is one of the best I've ever read and should be copy and pasted on every hairloss forum!

Fantastic post Spex. it's a long read but a worthy read!

I have had (and still have) many enormous issues of focusing much of my identity on my hair. I've always been a musician and into rock music, and was obsessed with long hair since about the age of 13, so when I started losing it at 18/19, I felt like a massive part of me was being taken away.

The other thing why I think hairloss hurts other's identity a lot more is simply that some people can look great with a bald/shaved look (I have a mate who looks like vin diesel and I can't imagine him with hair), whereas other's may feel their appearance is 'destroyed' by hairloss.

Me personally I am skinny, pale, and have delicate features - I always worried that I'd look ill if I buzzed my hair down, and I'd completely lose my identity.

I think identity really is THE key issue with regards to hairloss.

This is a great thread. I don't want to trivialize men's hair loss--it sucks for everyone--but I think the difficulties might be especially great for women. I still turn on the T.V. or see a basketball game and see plenty of good-looking guys who are bald or have shaved heads. The same can't be said for women.

I like this post. You point out some things that needs to be considered prior to a HT.

Great post

I think all of this comes from society's obsession with youthful appearance and image. A perfect example is the "Credit Score" commercials.

They show 2 tall, good looking men with a full head of hair ( the good scores) and then a short bald man (the bad score). This, in essence, states short and bald is "BAD." Really, that is horrible and I think it is wrong to stigmatize attributes like that. People cannot help their genetics.

That is the reality we perceive and why we feel the way we do. You don't have to accept it but it exists. Look at women and how they are judged..

The beauty is that once you have your procedure(s) and you get your hair back, you get a second chance!

It is tough to reason with yourself as we are emotional creatures. Take that and the materialistic / image infatuated society we live in and it can drive one a bit crazy
