Thanks for your theory, mars. OK, so we have three possible causes so far generally speaking (not necessarily specific to mars):

1. bad handling of grafts.
2. all the cells not active yet on the hair and it kinks on the weak points.
3. scarring in the recipient area.

Any other opinions?

Assuming the best scenario - great doc (great execution) & great physiology - I'd like to ask the questions again that I posted earlier in the thread with the hope that some HT vets and docs can chime in:

- To what degree should we expect transplanted hair to resemble native hair when fully matured, and how long until maturity?

- Is it realistic to expect it to be virtually indistinguishable, or must we accept that there will always be a difference between the two, even under the best of circumstances?

- And, if so, what types of differences are considered "normal"?

Thanks.

i have googled and researched endlessly....everything i have read says that this should correct itself eventually. Some places said 12-18 months, others said after a couple of hair "cycles."
by the way, my credentials....i have unofficially been given the title "google master" by several different people.

Thanks for following up Zenmunk. I like your systematic approach. I hope some docs chime in.

As for my case, I will say that most of my hair has now started to straighten out and mature. I'm 11 months post-op from my first procedure and 1 month post-op from my second... so I'll have to wait another full year to give a definitive answer.

However, most of my worries have been put to rest. If things continue as is, I would say that transplanted hair should match native hair almost identically. I have a very discerning eye and high expectations and high standards so I will definitely keep you posted on my progress.

That's reassuring, Corvettester. I look forward to your input going forward regarding how your transplanted hair grows in. Thanks, and good luck!

HT vets and docs... please chime in here. It'll be helpful to get your perspective on this very important subject.

Thanks.

Hi guys, just ran across this post. I have now had thee procedures. First was 2000 grafts and is almost 30 months post op the second was 2000 and is about 14 months post op and the third was 2800 grafts and is 4.5 months post op.
All my hair is still wispy and curly. I guess some has calmed down and matured some but it still not close to my native hair. I wonder if it ever will become so. I dont think it can be mishandled grafts as I have seen other pacients from the same techs and dr. without this problem. I guess there is probably a good amount of scar tissue there because all three procedures have added density to the same area.
I am wondering if having additional procedures before my hair has matured has prolonged the maturation process. If it is scar tissue causing the problem is there anything I can do to reduce the scar tissue? Will my hair always be this way? Any insight would be great.

Very common & par for the course

I recall photos of my "frizzy" stage from my newly transplanted hair. They were realy coarse and looked odd.

Even after 2.5 years from first transplant? Do I need to give all three transplants time to mature before they will all start growing right?

It takes about 12-16 months (after each surgery) for the hairs to fully mature.

Each one is on their own schedule

Have had one HT and am now at the 18 month stage. I still have tons of hair that is coarse, crooked, wispy, "pubic hair" looking, whatever the hell you want to call it. The doctor had said that it was due to poor handling of the grafts but nothing else was said as to whether it would straighten itself out.
The hair is very unpleasant looking( like a tangled mess) and feeling. Makes me very disappointed with the entire HT procedure.
