Arrow Propecia (Finasteride) "Transition" Theory

Propecia (Finasteride) "Transition" Theory

Disclaimer : I am not a Doctor. This is only my opinion based on experience. Take it or leave it.

However - A potential tip to help avoid initial side effects from taking Finasteride as i have suggested to several guys and it seems to have really helped them.

I made this "transition" suggestion to several guys who originally experienced sides and decided to stop the drug. They started up again on their own accord and used this simple idea and it worked, as no sides were experienced.

(Note: Side effects can occur initially anyway due to the body getting used to the new drug you are introducing to the system and these often calm down naturally over time.)

"Finasteride Transition"

1mg 1 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 2 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 3 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 4 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 5 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 6 x a week for 2 weeks
1mg 7 x a week .......

Allow your body to adjust to the "new" drug and not get too overwhelmed initially. This way you can introduce the drug and potentially help avoid against the not uncommon early sides.

Hi Spex,

I've always felt this was a good way to go about introducing the body to finasteride. I have zero medical knowledge, but it seems to be good sense that changes in the hormonal system would best be introduced gradually so that the body can adjust accordingly. Whether or not this sense applies medically, who knows? But it certainly couldn't hurt to introduce finasteride gradually and, in my opinion, the body will always adjust better to graduation rather than sudden changes.

It also seems to me a good way to monitor physiological changes in more detail, if you do notice side effects increasing at any point in the transitional period then you'll have a better sense of what dose might be tolerable to your body or exactly when your body started to find the dose problematic.

I think it's also good for people psychologically, if I'm honest. Introducing finasteride to your body gradually gives you a feeling of control over the situation that can also alleviate anxiety and fears and give people a greater feeling of being in charge of their own future. I think a lot of people get scared of finasteride and that feeling of taking the pill and "hoping for the best" can bring on a lot of additional side effects and worries. Doing it your way is bound to help with that situation.

Great advice I think! Whether or not it has any medical benefit I guess we won't know for certain, but this poll can only help shed light on the matter!

That is an option. As I've blogged before, I simply had the side effects on and off the entire year I was on it. So I quit. But 95% or more, have no trouble...so I'd likely just do it daily as recommended. And if side effects occur, then a modification can be entertained with your doctor.

What is the half life of the drug? If there is not a constant amount in your system you will peak and vally which is not good, throwing off any balance your body could find to get adjusted.

joeyz400,

Depending on the source, the half-life of finasteride is anywhere between 5 and 8 hours.

Spex what are you thoughts on the 3 times a week regimen (M-W-F) that's being floated around?

Defo worth try.

I have spoken of late to several guys who have tried this method or very similar and have reported positive feedback. They have introduced Finasteride gradually and now take it daily with no side effects whatsoever throughout.

Again i am not a Doctor but certainly worth considering if about to embark on Finasteride and have concerns over potential initial side effects

Thanks for reviving an old thread Spex! Are you still trying the 2X daily regimen? I'm curious, as if it is working for you I will also try it.

sjones23, a slight pain in the right nipple could have been anything. If you are as serious as everyone else on this board and I, then Finasteride or Avodart really make a HUGE difference as to your hair loss. Believe me!
