This fellow showed up last week for a checkup. He is exactly 5 months out from 3100 grafts in a "u" pattern preserving his frontal tuft.
Shown are preop and intraop and 1 week pics. And then pics at about a month out. Finally pics from 5 months are shown. He is exhibiting faster than expected growth and is happy. Equally important is that his wife has been very supportive of his procedure, sitting with him much of the operative day, and she is happy with the results...which will only improve until he stops in this August for a year check. Thanks.
I want to remind readers that it was just good luck that he's growing so well early on. I'd typically expect this about 9 months out. Neither he nor I did anything to make it grow early. Of course its nice when people roll in expecting not so much happening and there is plenty of growth....and even more to come. But it doesn't always happen that way. He could easily have looked like he did at a month, at 5 months, and still wind up with a great result. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

thanks for the explanation sir i think u have just reminded us that good luck cases like this exist along bad luck cases. Nobody should use this kind of example and lament themselves when the results dun look like this 5months into post op.

WB you are correct. That is exactly why I added that about he was just lucky to grow early. I'd expect this about 10 months out. Now of course, I don't mind him and his wife thinking that my office is just really good, but as I posted here, I told them it was mostly luck that he grew early. There is possibly some of his physiology that helps...perhaps he's a good healer or has more of some as yet undetermined growth factor than others... and maybe the placers were particularly careful or maybe I made the slits JUST the right size...
But I suspect its luck that he grew quickly. I'm glad for him and look forward to the 1 year pics. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Just a quick q doc, in this case, do u expect his 1yr look to differ a lot from his 5mths post op state? Can i safely say that he is a quick grower hence the results came in quickly but he should not expect even much better results 1 yr down the road? just curious!

I expect him to look significantly better at a year and I actually bet the patient a coke that it would be so. In particular I think he'll have a significant increase in density and hair caliber. Some of his current result could be some of the pre-existing stragglers... that are growing but which will likely fall out with time. And I suspect even as good as it looks, he has 30% more to start growing at least. I could be wrong, but I bet it will be better next fall.
