Many of the regular bloggers will recognize this case. And many of you know that I am very happy to have had the opportunity to help this fellow as my daughter was in a similar predicament.
This boy came in last April with a large area on his left parietal scalp with no hair several years after radiation treatments for brain cancer. We did about 700 grafts via a strip on the right side of his head. He came back in July and was growing some hair! About the middle of August we did a 1500 graft case to address the lower left parietal scalp which we hadn't dealt with in April. So he rolled in over Christmas break from his high school and at 8 and 5 months respectively, he is growing hair! His confidence is up and he's working on his driver's license. He has the same cancer doctor that my daughter has, and I'm especially proud of his results so far. There is one area, outlined in one of the lower pics, that shows no growth in an area about 1/4 by 3/4 inch. I'm not sure if that area just got too much radiation or what the issue is, but overall he is growing better than I'd ever expected. Hopefully he will be even more grown in by summer. Thanks. I'm glad too. Particularly when he's a year out this summer.

We did a case over the weekend and this young man was nice enough to stop in. It was more convenient to see him on a weekend as he's still in high school. He looks great. He is 13 months out from the top, smaller case, and about 10 months out from the second case. They live a good distance away, so I'm not expecting to see them back, but I think I am as excited with the results as he and his mom are.

I agree. He is the "showcase" of my upcoming lecture on hair restoration at the University of Virginia in 2 weeks. I believe we have another young man with a similar history coming in for a consultation next month. Hopefully we can help him too. Its hard enough on these kids to have gone through what they did, in order to treat the cancer. The long term alopecia can be devastating in this age group.

Doc, he looks great. Good job. Amazing what a small number of grafts did to him....
