This pleasant fellow had had 16, yes 16, previous plug cases over the past 20 years or so. He stopped by and wanted more bulk to his hair. An assessment of his donor area, and a thorough and detailed discussion focussed on what was a reasonable and achievable goal. Namely, to irregularize what is a very straight hairline, and to give additional density up front and along a right part-line.
I'd hoped to get 1500 garfts but we were suprised to get just about 2000. Shown are preop pics, 1 week pics (he did a great job keeping things clean!), and his 1 month scar check. He'll be back in the summer for followup pics. 2 points are key. First, is he had a reasonable hairline and coverage from all of his former work; and its important that the patient know that we can improve things but not make a radical difference. Second, excising a strip from a plugged out scalp is "like a box of chocholates...you never know what you'll get". And therefore don't over-promise OR over-expect. But I do expect him to end up with a more natural looking hairline next fall. Straight lines call attention to themselves, and I think we'll reduce that dramatically. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Dr. Lindsey,
Wow! 16 procedures and you were still able to harvest around 2,000 grafts. That's great news for him. He should be very happy with his new and more natural appearance. Great work!

Thanks for the comments. I think he is happy. Hopefully at 6-8 months he really starts to get a nice irregularization of that straight hairline.
I'll put up pics this summer. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Haa. I was watching CNN yesterday while on the arc trainer and they had a series of Biden photoshopped pics including him with a pony tail.
I almost fell off the machine.
