This very pleasant lady has thin hair, and very little coverage of her crown. Her donor hair is reasonable in the middle, but its sparse....and along sides (see strip pic) there is very little hair. She heard my fairly blunt discussion about what I thought her limitations were and I sent her home to consider this for a few weeks. She came back in, and we had a number of phone discussions about my relatively conservative plan to augment her crown. While I suggested she may only get a 40% improvement in the crown itself, I do believe that additional hair will allow for more layering coverage of the front and back; and extra hair will help hold onto topical concealers as well.
I'd hoped to get 2500, but felt like as tight as her scalp was despite exercising, that 2000 was more realistic. We only got just over 1800, please view the central versus ends of the strip to see why. We were able to get pretty nice coverage with 2s and 3s, and a few doubled up ones in the back, placed in slits around her still growing hairs. She has relatives in the area, and I expect to be able to see her and get updates from time to time. I think she was a great person to work with so far, and she clearly understood that preop communication and goal agreement, is so important so that both the doctor and patient know what they are shooting for. Dr. Lindsey,
Thank you for posting! I hope this patient is able to return for follow-ups. I'm very interesting to see how her results turn out. Nice work!

Thanks
She expects to follow up for a scar check right after Labor Day, at which time due to shedding, she'll likely look pretty thin on top. Hopefully she'll be an early grower and have some extra coverage this winter. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

So she stopped in this am, having just flown back to our area from an overseas trip. She has shed about half of what we placed, but has more coverage than I expected. Her scar looks PERFECT, particularly at 4.5 weeks out and in a redish complected fair skinned female.
I'll see her at the holidays for more pics. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA

Dr. Lindsey,
Thanks for the update! It's always great to have the opportunity to follow a patient's progress. I look forward to seeing what the holidays bring!

Dr, Lindsey,
Your surgical photo's are awesome as usual, its a pleasure to overlook them. The pictures really show how much is involved with this major surgery for people who are "newbies." You explain everything in great detail and that is what a patient deserves and should be treated. Your patients must feel very comfortable!! |

You are the first guy who has accused me of actually knowing which end of a camera to look through. Thanks! Usually all I hear is how I ought to change my lens or something. And I do appreciate your comment about explaining what all is part of the procedure. I think an informed customer/patient/voter....makes better decisions. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA
