Dude, you have to use some judgement. It's frizzy because the density isn't there and because he has fine hair. That also explains the coverage. If you knew a thing about HT's you'd realise this.

There's plenty I don't know, but I'm going to side with Dr. Feller (who does appear to be well informed) on this one.

I do think you have a point about his density, but then how could it be that great from where he started and given the fineness.

That's why it can't support that 80's hair style. He just needs to take a side trip down real street...shorten it up, get some style, maybe even get his hilights done, and hit the tanning booth.

He's not a bad looking guy. With a litltle sun and the right doo, he could be showering with Troy's girlfriend ...one of 'em anyway....lol.

Hi

I think the hairline does look a bit hard in the first pic.. Maybe the patient should have gone for a different look instead of the side combover

Ugly Man, I guess Dr. Feller or you not want honest opinions here. I did use my judgement and stated what I see. Having had two HT's I know a little bit about them. I commend Dr. Feller for showing a regular patient(not just his very best) for constructive criticism or compliments, whichever comes. The doctor is smart to gain insight from the public eye. Also, the "friziness" may not be just because his hair is fine, maybe some of the grafts were damaged or shocked? I have some of this friziness myself and they are worse with the grafts from my first inferior HT. Why is there no friziness on the back and sides?

I hate to be a critic, but it looks like a combover because it *is* a combover. A shorter hairstyle won't help much as this man is in desperate need of more grafts. To pack 4,000 grafts into such a small area when there is a whole head in need of hair, seems irresponsible or irrational (and judging by the hair style chosen - a full head of hair is desired by the patient as he desperately tries to cover up the balding).

Photo 4 clearly shows where the grafts were placed.

Photo 5 shows the hairline and is the best photo of the lot - but it still looks a little 'pluggy' to me.

EDIT - I was corrected by Dr. Feller in that what I was looking at was the irregularity, or perhaps the thickness behind the hairline? Either way - point taken.

Photo 3 shows how the middle and crown are thin / bald as the front hair is grown longer to try and cover the other areas.

This just looks like bad planning.

M&M,

I agree with you on the photos, this fellows donor is probably not up for another 4000 grafts that he needs. If this guys sides drop he will look even worse with a "island" of hair in the front. He should have strengthened the corners more. I am not sure "dense" packing is right for everyone.

I agree that the forelock is a combover, but his hairline isn't that high. He's simply overdone it, and gone out of his way to make it look like a combover.

A shorter hairstyle absolutely would look better, and he would be wise to lighten his hair and tan more, to minimize contrast between scalp and hair.

Now your comment about packing so much up front is interesting, and I hope we get Dr. Feller's opinion on that, because from the drawing made on the guy's head, it does appear as tho the crown was ignored.

That is a viable option in my opinion, but may have led to the toup look in one pick...accentuated badly by the poor cut.

As you note yourself, Photo 3 shows that the guy is fighting his own hairplan by growing his hair long and trying to cover back and front.

Where I disagree with you is that the planning is bad, at least at this point I'll give Dr. Feller benefit of the doubt.

What is apparent, is that somehow this guy is not excepting the reality of what he got, and he's fighting his hairline, and he's fighting his crown.

He could look _worlds_ better if he wasn't stuck in the 80's.

There's no frizziness on the sides becuase there's more hair to clump together. Different type of frizz, you don't have experience with this hair type.

Actually, where I was coming from was that since this patient is obviously not accepting of his condition (ie. fighting his crown and even the middle), it appears to be bad planning.

I can't help but go back to Bobman's photos. In his first HT, he had dense packing done to the front, which truly looked amazing. But he knew he was coming back for a 2nd to fill in the crown ... and now look at him!

Dr. Feller - I request that if you publish photos like this, you share more information such as the patient's goals: why dense pack the front and leave the middle and crown untouched? Is a 2nd HT planned?
