This is a 37 year old male 7 days after his 3,074 graft surgery/repair. As can be seen in his photographs, this patient had a previous rather noticeable micrograft surgery performed roughly 10 years prior. All grafts were placed in the frontal 1/4 of the scalp. Our emphasis was
to lower the hairline to a more desirable location suitable for a 37 year old, while at the same time placing enough follicular unit grafts in front of his older work such that it was completely masked by the more appealing newer work.

The hairline grafts were placed at 45 follicles/cm, while the remaining grafts were placed at 40 follicles/cm. Distribution was 265 1-hair follicles, 1998 2-hair, and 811 3-hair follicles. A 20-g solid core needle was used to make the recipient sites for the 1-hair follicle,
while a 19-g solid core needle was used for the 2-hair and 3-hair follicles.

His previous donor scar was excised and discarded as a part of the donor hair harvest for this surgery (i.e. he had less scar when he left the office than he had when he arrived). The donor area was repaired with a double layer suture and trichophytic closure. This patient album contains pre-op and intra-op photos, as well as pictures at 7 days post op.

Dr. Ross,

It will be interesting to see how this patient turns out. It's hard to tell given the amount of natural hair he already has, where all the grafts were placed. But I do see that the transplanted hair extends into the existing hair.

I'm sure he will have a nice improvement.

Please come back and share the updated results when he comes in for a follow up .

Bill

Hi Bill...I'll definitely update this patient's album as he returns for his follow up visits. I think he's going to be very pleased with his results.

Our work extended several centimeters into where he already had hair. He needed more density there, and he needed a lot of follicular grafts to hide his older, larger grafts.

Because we lowered his hairline a substantial amount, he will now have a nice area of purely follicular unit grafts in front of the older work. When his hair grows in, I really don't think anyone will be able to see his older work.
