Dr. Carman,
Thanks for posting. Immediately postoperative pictures look nice and clean and ultra refined. I hope you'll have a chance in the near future to post some mature hair transplant results as well. Thanks for participating! Best wishes, Bill

Richie48-
I'd be happy to answer your questions. This patient had 700 FU grafts placed in the crown area, and 1121 FU grafts in the bilateral temporal areas. My staff and I prefer to keep the pre-existing hair long, as opposed to shaving it beforehand. We find that leaving the hair longer makes the creation of the sites and placement of the grafts a bit easier, as the pre-existing hair can be combed from side to side, or forward and backward, etc., giving us greater exposure of the underlying scalp. Also, we feel that, cosmetically, having the pre-existing hair left long places less of a burden on the patient in terms of the procedure being much less conspicuous. Again, I don't beleive there should be any hard fast rule re shaving or not; it really amounts to the individual surgeons preference. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely, Timothy Carman, MD
