In the past I have visited Dr. Meshkin's Newport Beach office and observed him and his staff performing a quality surgery. However, due to scheduling issues, I was not able to meet with him during my recent visit. But I did request that he document one of his recent surgeries so that I could present his surgery on our forum community.

Dr. Meshkin has been recommended on the Hair Transplant Network for a number of years and has impressed me as being very hands on with his patients from the consultation through the entire surgery. He and his staff perform microscopic Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation and can provide sessions over 3,000 grafts. Dr. Meshkin provided me the following description of the 3,058 FU surgery that he performed on Tuesday, May 20th of 2008.


"The patient is a healthy 42 year old white male who traveled from Canada to have a procedure done at our office. We had done a virtual consultation on the Internet and estimated about 3000 grafts. However, the final count was to be determined on the day of his procedure. He has a family history of hair loss and noticed a gradual hair loss beginning ten years ago. He tried Minoxidil for a year about two years ago. But he discontinued using it due to lack of motivation.

On the day of the surgery, I spent one hour to review the procedure and go over the treatment plan, his expectations and goals. I examined the donor area with a densitometer. He had 1.7 hairs per mm2 and he was a class six on the Norwood scale. He had dark, coarse, thick and some wavy hair. He was concerned mostly about his front and midscalp area, so we decided to concentrate mostly in the frontal and mid scalp area.

Following the hairline design the donor area was shaved and a strip of 22 cm long by 1.2 cm wide was removed. I used double layer trichophytic closure to minimize any possible scarring. For the frontal hair line, I used a tiny 20 gauge needle for single hair incisions, a 19 gauge for two and some three hair incisions and a 18 gauge Nokor needle for the 3 hair grafts. I also used 90 and 91 spear point blades in the mid scalp for the three hair grafts. The donor and the recipient area were dressed in a sterile manner using a combination of k-y jelly and neosporin ointment on a moist telfa.

We did a total of 3058 grafts - 670 singles, 1,430 twos and 858 threes. My assistants during the procedure were Ana with 15 years experience, Daisy and Suzette with 5 years experience, Alex with 3 years and Myra with 2 years of hair transplantation experience.

The patient returned the next day for bandage removal and cleaning."

It's ashame that you didn't get to observe live surgery this time when visiting with Dr. Meshkin, but it sounds like the visitation was certainly productive.

I hope that Dr. Meshkin or an associated representative will become more involved on our forum and present some patient before/after pictures, especially those showing his ability for performing over 2500 grafts in a single session like this one.

Why this guy would travel from Canada to this doc, when he had H&W in his own backyard seems stange. I wonder what Dr. Meshkin charges, since his prices are not listed on his website?

This is my first post here at the forum. I am a patient advocate for Dr. Meshkin and have been working both in the front office and in the surgery room for the past 15 years. It may be shock to some of you that there actually is very good Doctors other than H&W, but there are many. It is just that some doctors get more involved with promoting their clinics and work on the internet. Inour case most of our clients are patient referals. We give each and every one of our clients our utmost attention and care, and I should tell you we have many clients that travel both from other states and other countries to have their transplant done with us. As for the internet promotions, we have decided to become more active so you will see alot more hairtransplant pictures and comments both from myself and Dr. Meshkin from now on.

I agree with your sentiments completely. There are a number of quality surgeons who are recommended by this community like Dr. Meshkin who performs high quality follicular unit hair transplantation but just don't have a lot of online visibility.

I think it's only natural for patients to gravitate toward clinics who regularly use the internet to share patient results however, this is why it's vital for clinics like Dr. Meshkin to get involved.

Thanks for the response. I look forward to seeing more photos as the photos on your website appear to be 5 years old according to the copyright date on the page.
Also I noticed that the third patient down it the same guy as the guy on the 5 photo row down.
And the guy on the 6th row is the same as the guy on the 9th row.
This might be a bit misleading to your site viewers as most reputable hair transplant docs show photos of the same patient concurrently, and don't mix them up.
Also the photos look like a pretty low pixel resolution. You might upgrade the camera for the new stuff you will be presenting.

I made the comments regarding H&W due to the fact that their results have proven so good that even Bill the moderator of this site chose them for his last transplant.

Also what are your prices per graft? This is not listed on your website.

I appreciate your response. As I said we have been busy by our patient referrals and didnot pursue our internet accessabilty. We will be alot more active and post alot more pictures from now on. And if our results were not proven we would not have made it in this business for the past twenty years. Good results on actual patient up close speaks much louder than marketing tools that many of the so called great doctors use.

I was about to post my 1 year post op and start a weblog and happen to browse through, I am so glad pat visisted Dr. Meshkin in california. I found him here on the network and I am so grateful he is a great doctor and has a great staff. hope others that had it done with him will start to post pictures too.
