Much of this discussion can be explained by the fact that in its papers to the FDA, Merck presented studies showing doses from 0.05mg to 5.0mg had the same effect on DHT, though ultimately in their infinite wisdom (driven by financial considerations), they decided to present the current 1mg dose for approval. I just brought home my first bottle of Proscar 5 mg. I'll start splitting the pills in quarters tonight. I saw this year and half old thread and I thought I would check in to see if anyone who was going to try the quarter pill every other day approach did it, and find out the latest thinking on this.

Interesting info. I am going to try this and take 1mg every other day.

I'm also glad I stumbled across this thread. I just started taking propecia this way (EOD) and am glad that thought leaders agree this is a legitimate course of action.

I also have been told by Docs that Proscar 1.25 every other day is fine.

I noticed you mentioned you were "going to start splitting the pills in quarters tonight"......I was told NOT to quarter all the pills at once.
The reason being once split over time they weaken in strength.
Only split them when you need them....not all at once.

Thought I'd pass that along.

I am also going to try 1mg eod and if this gives sides will try next best regime of .5mg ed. Just to re-iterate the point of splitting your whole supply of proscar .It is better to split one tablet only and store the 3 other pieces in a sealed tablet splitter case or similar beause if you split whole lot moisture will get into the active ingredient due to protective coating being removed and degrade it over time.
