Hi,

Does anyone think they'll be a day when we can have transplants and use topicals to maintain native hair rather than propecia (I would be happy if it just mantained... it doesn't even need to grow hair back). The thing that puts me off getting a HT is the contract with finasteride that you typically have to take on.

What would be a realistic date for something like that to happen...i.e. a topical that maintains hair.....

Would be quite possibly be a drug/pill, like propecia, as opposed to a topical like minox/rogaine. Best bet is to give propecia/fin a try; give it a few weeks, assuming you aren't one of the extreme rarities and you don't experiene side effects, $ aside (and you can use proscar, which is a cheaper version of finasteride), it's a great treatment option against MPB.

Also, I wouldn't say that getting a HT forces you to use fin -- not at all.
