like i posted in a different thread...

The tech that shampooed my hair the following day of the procedure instructed me that it would be safe to gently rub my hands over my scabs in a couple of weeks if i wanted to get rid of them faster. She said the bulbs/graphs in the skin would remain unharmed. Now I regret doing it. I hope to god I didn't mess things up. When I did rub my scalp, the scabs flew out by the dozens. Can anyone shed some light on this? did i screw things up? I had the HT about 2 months ago.

Mark,
I received the same instructions and followed them. The reason that the scabs flew off is because they were ready too. I'm just shy of 2 months also (6 more days) and things have pretty much stayed the same for the last couple of weeks, with very little growth so far, just a touch. This appears to be the norm. I find that looking at others pictures helpful in understanding the process and absorbing it on an emotional level.
Jim

First point is for Marc: don't worry about what you did. I did the rub your hand thing across the top of all my short new hairs around the 5/6 day point post-op. I didn't rub directly against the scalp with my hand but a nice rubbing nonetheless across the top of the new hair grafts and the scab flew off like crazy. Yes, I worried a little bit too at first, but I did it anyway because it made my hair/head feel good. I did not have a negative result as a result of this rubbing. You should be fine. Also, I want to mention in general about sun exposure to the scalp after transplant. Naturally, it is best to avoid exposure if possible, especially early on. At about the 3 3/4 month point after my surgery, my girlfriend and I went to Aruba for a week to celebrate my 41 b-day, late August timeframe. Initially, I tried to always wear a hat etc. But for me it was a no win situation for the most part because of the amount of swimming/diving/snorkeling that we did. I got a mild sunburn on my head from the trip, even though I applied small amounts of suncreen from time to time (not always because the suncreen gave me a greazy look that I hated) Bottom line: I honestly don't think the sun/sunburn impact the grafts at all. Hair continued to grow and looks great today, just over 8 months now. Of course, one should avoid the sun if possible especially in the earliest stages.

Not a Doctor but my HT Doc said if a graft pops out if will bleed profusely (not a speller).
I brushed mine at 10 days a the scabs were very thick. I am all right too.

Just a few things to add:
Avoid aspirin or aspirin like products such as advil, motrin, naprosyn,(non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs)Your dr should give you a least of drugs to avoid for several weeks prior to the HT.

Avoid alcohol for a week before surgery

Avoid vitamin E, garlic,St John's Wort

I advise removing sutures in7-12 days. Longer than that and the sutures/staples are likely to become embedded in the skin

Male Top Model 2 NW, PRoseMD

Thats one I haven't heard of, no vitamin E? Im alittle over two months into post surgery, and I actually applied alittle on my scar(donor area). I was planning on applying it everyday with the hope that it would help to reduce that reddish appearance.

Also what about picking at the pimples? I couldnt resist draining a few of them. I didn't have to squeeze hard at all. My doctor did mention it would be safe to do so, but I regret doing it only because of the blemishes that stay behind. Hopefully they will go away.

thanx,
m

avoid ORAL E vitamine, but this is not as important as avoiding aspirine, adiro ( salicilic acetil acid ).

what about picking at the pimples? as u have said, they will go away, take your time.
