South Florida may just be the vanity capitol of the world, beyond even Southern California or Brazil. In South Florida people don't ask why a person had a cosmetic procedure but why they haven't.

So it is no surprise that South Florida has more hair restoration physicians per capita than any other place in North America. But only a minority of these hair restoration surgeons are providing truly state of the art results.

Over the past few years I have researched numerous hair restoration clinics in South Florida and out of dozens of clinics narrowed the list down to just a few physicians who I believe are committed to providing the quality hair transplant results.

These physicians are currently Dr. Bernie Nusbaum and Dr. Ricardo Mejia in Miami and Dr. Glenn Charles

I have visited each and every one of them in the past and watched them perform quality follicular unit hair transplantation. They are true "gems in the rough".

Hair restoration surgery continues to evolve and the bar for true excellence has once again moved higher in the past couple of years. Today leading hair transplant surgeons are doing ultra refined follicular unit grafting using tiny instruments to create very small incisions that are carefully angled and directed.

This ultra refined technique enables surgeons to densely pack microscopically prepared follicular unit grafts very close together and in large numbers when appropriate for a particular patient. This enables patients to achieve very good cosmetic density in a particular area in one session. In addition, due to the minimally invasive nature of these incisions healing in the recipient area is more rapid.

This past week I decided to update my information about who continues to perform truly state of the art hair transplantation in South Florida. Once again, after considerable research and several visits to clinics in the South Florida area Dr. Bernie Nusbaum, Dr. Ricardo Mejia and Dr. Glenn Charles came up on top.

I also want to mention that while I did not visit Dr. Paul Rose in the Tampa/Clearwater area this past week, I can assure visitors that he and his work is in league with his outstanding colleagues in South Florida. In fact, I not only visited Dr. Rose's clinic this past fall but had surgery with him to add more hair to my crown area.

Hello, I am here in San Antonio, TX, and I have been visiting Dr Bradley Limmer. What is your opinion about his clinic. Can you advice anyone in this area. I also travel back home to Tampa, Fl. I know you have referenced Dr Rose. How do you compare the 2. I appreciate any help.

I too have had 3 procedures. I am very happy I did. My only concern is that my crown is still thin. Seeing that you had another procedure done for your vertex, were you concerned about your already depleted donor area?
This is my major concern. I feel my hair looks great, but could use more density on the crown. What did Dr. Rose advise prior to your decision?

The crown is tough area to fill cosmetically. It also typically takes longer to grow in. Some refer to it as a black hole for hair.

I know that the 1,000 grafts I had added to my crown last November have helped. But it was no where near the dramatic improvement I got when I restored my hairline.

I now have enough hair in my crown that when I use Prothik spray it really looks much thicker and then has a full look. I suggest you give this thickening spray a try. Search our forum for "Prothik" and "Toppik" and you will hear many enthusiastic reviews.

As for my donor area, Dr. Rose and I felt that strip rather than FUE was a much better choice for me.

If you are already concerned about density, then the crown can be a real killer, as Pat said. It is for this reason and my relatively young age that I have not touched my crown yet.

I know that concealers aren't the preferred option as opposed to hair, but today's options can be great. I posted some photos of my experiences with some different concealers here.

This should give you some examples of what they can do.

Both your responses have been a big help. I am not unhappy with my crown. I knew what to expect before and after my 3 procedures. I can honestly say my crown does look pretty good. I am, of course, my harshest critic.
I have never used ProThik, but will give it a try as I have heard positive things regarding it.
I also wanted to let others know that Dr. Lee's Xandrox 15% leaves the hair quite dense when it fully dries. With a bit of leave-in conditioner, the effects are quite nice.
