This fair haired executive desired improvement in his frontal triangles. We harvested a strip for microscopic dissection and 0.7mm slits were created, going into his existing hairline. Although he has thin hairs, once grown in, he should get an excellent result and he did a great job keeping his recipient area clean.

Clean work Doc - also remarkable healing for only 8 days considering the patients skin tone - Did he use anything inparticular to aid the healing as patients with this type of sking colouring tend to suffer with prolonged redness in my experience - I read recently that you recommend Vasaline for post op - this the case here?
Best Regards

Thanks.

No, I don't think he did anything except keep the area very clean. I am a vaseline proponent for suture lines on any skin not surrounded by hair (ie the face). While I do think that a bit of vaseline to occlude the donor scarline would help, and I have suggested it to folks, the reality is that unless someone is very sparing in its application, vaseline will result in a very greasy head and a perturbed patient. Nevertheless, if someone is bound and determined to apply some ointment, I prefer vaseline to any medicated ointment.

I have had lots of patients from rural areas of Virginia and several who looked this good reported AFTER returning that they used bag-baum on their scalp. I don't recommend it but it didn't seem to cause any trouble.

This guy was just a good patient, and although I would like to take credit for him looking so good at a week, I think its his genes and luck.

As patient coordinator for Dr. Lindsey, in my discussions with this patient, all he did was to be very fastidious with cleaning and removing any dry skin flakes after day 4. He didn't use any special ointments and got a great result. Keeping the recipient and donor areas clean makes a big difference in early postoperative appearances.

Wendy,

I'm glad to see that you were successful in registering on our forum.

I've taken the liberty also of adding a link to Dr. Lindsey's recommendation profile in your signature.

Best wishes,

Bill

Since I'm the patient in these pics, I thought I should chime in. I had meant to post right after Dr. Lindsey posted my pics, but got sidetracked with work travel. You guys can see the results thus far for yourself, so I thought in this post I'd reflect on some of the things that were on my mind prior to and during the last 7 weeks.

I have to say that I was extremely pleased with the process and the procedure. I actually slept through the majority of the actual process and found it relatively painless. That first night, sleeping was not the most comfortable, but since I was a little dopey from the drugs, I still managed without too much trouble.

Like many guys, I wanted to try to do this under-the-radar. So, I had the procedure done on a Wednesday and took the rest of the week off. I probably should have taken a few more days off, but by Monday, I was able to comb my hair down and nobody seemed to notice at work.

As Dr. Lindsey explained to me prior to the procedure, the hairs that were transplanted all fell out over the next two weeks. I noticed some minor irritation which looked like a light acne irritation or a rash, but I just kept the area clean by washing and then using a Kiehl's toner every evening.

I will say that the one thing that I didn't fully appreciate is how annoying it is to have the back of your head stay numb for several weeks after the procedure. Laying your head back against a pillow and knowing you're touching it but not feeling it is a strange sensation at night. It's now 7 weeks later and even still it's a little numb, but much better than before.

As far as hair growth goes, I am already seeing some growth. There is sort of a light peach fuzz of hairs emerging, about a quarter of an inch long in the transplanted region. I am assuming that the area will fill in more as new hairs come out of their dormant phase.

As far as the scar goes, it's about where I thought it'd be. With the stitches out, it has faded to a soft pink very slightly indented line. I assume it will get better over time, but since no one can see it over my existing hair, I don't spend much time worrying about it. It was occasionally itchy during the healing phase, but not unmanageable.

I'm anxious to see how things progress and how things look by the first of the year but so far so good. I'd certainly recommend Dr. Lindsey to anyone in the mid-Atlantic area...
